Choose a Family

Alison and Andy

Dear Birthmother,

Hello from Santa Monica, California! We are so grateful that you are taking the time to consider us as adoptive parents for your baby.  It isn’t possible for us to even imagine all of the emotions you are going through but hopefully getting to know us and our family on the pages that follow will help put your mind at ease.  We will be open and honest to your baby about their adoption story, about how special their birthmother is to our family and how lucky we all are to have crossed paths.  We will guide your child to become caring, respectful, compassionate, and courageous (like you!).  But most of all, we will shower them with love!

Our Story (so far)

Coming up on 10 years ago, Ali was looking for a roommate and Andy was in the process of moving to California because of work. Andy wasn’t sure how long he would be in California because the company he worked for at that time moved him around a lot.  We ended up finding each other on a website matching roommates; we met and decided to become roommates.

Andy knew as soon as he met Ali she was someone he could see himself with for the rest of his life. Over the next 9 months or so we spent a lot of time together and became good friends while developing strong feelings for each other.  Still to this day we debate who made the first move (it was Ali).  Our first few weeks of actual dating were spent in Italy and it could not have been more of a fairy tale.  Andy decided it was time to make California and Ali permanent and we became engaged.  We have been married for 5 years and love the life we are building together.

About Us

  • Ali will be a Stay-At-Home Mom!
  • We are a case of opposites that attracted.
  • Ali grew up in South Jersey (Philadelphia) and has one younger brother.
  • Andy grew up Iowa and has five brothers!
  • Ali has two cats (Andy knew it was a packaged deal!).
  • We are an adventurous couple – scuba diving and hiking among our favorites.

About Ali (from Andy)

Ali grew up in a very close, loving family and it shows. They are the most generous, loving people I know, as is Ali.  She is loyal to her friends and family.  Ali has a kind heart and will do anything for anyone if they need.

Ali is the type of person that others seem comfortable in talking to. She goes into the grocery store and it will take her 30 minutes to get one item because someone starts to ask her about a type of fruit and she somehow turns it into a conversation about much more.  Ali is how we all should be – approachable, caring, loving, and able to see the good in everyone.

We are so lucky in that we both have great families that get along. Ali actually goes back to Iowa for trips by herself to visit my family and it is always hard for her to leave.  Not many daughter in-laws I know are that comfortable with their spouse’s family.

Ali is completely goofy, creative, and a lot of fun. She will be an amazing mom and has always dreamt of being a stay-at-home mom.  I love her!

Fun Facts about Ali:

  • Lived in Australia while studying abroad
  • Loves to sew baby toys and blankets
  • Can recite anything from The Princess Bride on demand
  • Eats most sandwiches with potato chips stuffed inside
  • Loves leftovers

Ali’s Guilty Pleasures

  • Mixing Raisinets with movie popcorn
  • Listening to 90’s one hit wonders and singing them out loud
  • Water ice
  • Retail therapy / bargain hunting
  • Fried pickles….yummmm!

About Andy (from Ali)

Andy is my husband, my partner in crime, and my best friend. One of the first things that drew me to Andy was his loving green eyes.   I love when he smiles; he gets these little wrinkles on the side of his face. When I first saw this, it was proof that he laughed a lot.  As it turned out he has an amazing sense of humor. Funny faces are his specialty and he can make anyone laugh to the point where milk will come flying out of their nose (true story!)  Wit and sarcasm accompany his humor, which makes our daily life more fun and light-hearted.

Andy is a family man, it is his first priority.   Andy is the loudest fan at our nephew’s baseball games and has become the designated piggy back man when around any mini relative. His calming and playful energy tends to create a magnetic effect with the kiddos. I really admire Andy for his incredible work ethic.  His employees look up to him, and know they have a boss who really cares about them and their future success in business and their personal life.  Recently, a newly born baby within the company was named after him!  I feel very fortunate to be able to live with my best friend and confidant.  Andy gives great advice and is a man of his word. I trust him more than anyone I know.  He has continuously proven his support through our life journeys.  For him, the glass is always half full.  Andy is so organized and meticulous, which creates a great balance in our relationship, as I am the opposite living in organized chaos.  My husband has my heart and continues to surprise me with his romantic gestures.  One of the most memorable surprises was on our wedding day when he had a plane fly a banner that read “Andy loves Ali, Happily ever after…”

Fun Facts about Andy

  • Can make any kid laugh at the drop of a hat
  • Doesn’t carry a cell phone during the weekends(that makes Ali happy J)
  • Loves Dr. Pepper
  • Makes an incredible chicken parmagian
  • Hates leftovers

Andy’s Guilty Pleasures

  • Ali’s sloppy joe sandwiches – they’re delicious!
  • Listening to the same music over and over while in his car
  • Guacamole
  • Searching YouTube for anything that makes him laugh out loud
  • Occasionally playing the lotto in hopes of actually winning

Family and Friends

Ali’s family lives close so it allows us to visit often for everything from birthday parties to weekends by the pool. Andy’s family is a short plane ride away; there is nothing better than trips to Iowa for time with family.  Most of our friends have children (or are due shortly!) and this has given us all a chance to play an important part in each other’s lives.  We have all gone from nights out on the town to nights at each other’s homes with friends and their children.

The Place We Call Home

Living in Santa Monica is amazing! We spend most of our time outside exploring.  There are awesome farmers’ markets every day of the week, a variety of outdoor concerts and endless people watching.  Our home is in a great neighborhood that offers diversity, culture and a healthy lifestyle.  It is surrounded by kid friendly activities like story time at the local library, parks with children of all ages and pony rides on Sunday.  Education-wise the schools are some of the best in California!  We can’t wait to add a baby to our evening strolls on the boardwalk and beach.  We are lucky to live in our own little paradise!

Our Work

Andy works for a large company and is the manager for their California operations. He has a great group of employees who he has worked with for some time.  Most of them actually worked with him at his previous job and came with him to the company he has been with for the last 7 years.

Ali has been a homemaker since being married and is ready to be a stay-at-home mom. During her days she volunteers, sews, cooks, babysits, spends time with family and friends, and has a small business where she offers pet sitting and dog walking.
