Hello! We are Jennifer and Rusty. Thank you for taking the time to get to know us and consider us as adoptive parents. Words can’t express the gratitude and respect we feel towards you. You are considering something courageous, that is something we will always admire. Adoption creates a special bond that we have experienced when we adopted our daughter Sienna in 2011. Sienna’s birth mother is very dear to us, and we look forward to hearing from her regularly. She is part of our lives and we respect and love her dearly for giving us the most wonderful gift, the opportunity to be parents and see the world through a child. Watching Sienna grow has been a pure joy and we are excited to welcome a second child into our family. Sienna can’t wait to be a sibling! They both will grow up learning the values of dedication, generosity, as well as love and hope. We will overcome all obstacles that life may bring, and persevere together as a family. Our family is not yet complete and we can’t wait to share amazing adventures and our hearts with another beautiful child.
Home Sweet Home
We live in two-story home in a quiet Southern California neighborhood. It is a community where everyone is very friendly; they bring baked goods, and always lend a helping hand and even walk our dogs. Rusty is able to use our three-car garage as a woodworking workshop, and has made lots of furniture for our house. We are also fortunate to live near a lake where there are lots of activities such as summer concerts, kids camps, and trout fishing.
We have two dogs Maddie (7) and Jake (1). They wrestle and chase each other through the backyard all day. Maddie was the first addition to the family. We did well with her minus some destroyed flip-flops and outdoor cushions. Both of the dogs are gentle and excellent with Sienna. She throws the ball to them all the time, and enjoys taking them to the beach to watch them swim. Maddie is the best swimmer and she loves diving into the waves. She can also sit, stay, and shake hands. The funniest thing she does is greet us when we come home and it sounds like she’s singing a song.
We adopted our amazing daughter Sienna in 2011. Her birth mother was close by so we were very fortunate to be there for her birth. It was the most wonderful day of our lives. She captured our hearts and melted us the second she grabbed on to our finger with her tiny hand. Sienna is the focus of our lives and we devote all of our time to teaching her, and making lots of fun memories together. We love park days where she can run around and just be a kid. She is exceptionally smart, sassy, and loves to explore. We both love her joy and zest for life. She is competitive and very determined to give 100% and do her best. Sienna is the perfect age for a sibling, she is eager to help and asks daily to be a big sister. She says she wants a bunk bed just so, “the baby can sleep on the bottom when it gets bigger.”
Activities- Riding her bike, swimming, playing with the dogs and Piano
Game- Uno (yes she can already beat both of us)
Food- Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches
Our Life Together
We were high school sweethearts, and have been together for seventeen years! It all happened through mutual best friends that had been dating. Rusty and his best friend came to blockbuster where Jennifer was working. His humor came out when he asked if Jennifer was old enough to work. During that summer, we spent many nights together enjoying free movies at the local movie theater where Rusty worked. We quickly fell in love and dated all through college, and were married five years later. We have been married for twelve years and have had many adventures together.
Some Highlights include:
• Backpacking through Italy while the Pope was being elected
• Hiking to the tallest waterfall in Kauai
• Catching Marlin in Cabo San Lucas
• Snorkeling and staying in an over- the-water bungalow in Tahiti
• Snowboarding in Tahoe
• Hiking Mammoth Mountain and Half Dome in Yosemite
About Jennifer by Rusty
My life would not be the same without Jennifer. My friends are jealous of me because she is a hardworking, educated, pleasant person who is always smiling and has a great family. She is the “total package” because she has a great personality and is truly beautiful inside and out. All of the qualities that attracted me to her early on have developed even further. She is joyful to be around, enjoys traveling, being adventurous, and is respectful of others. Jen has a contagious smile and is a very positive person. She always reassures me that everything will work out if you just stay positive. I can’t wait for Jennifer to be a mom again and embrace each moment of bonding. She always puts her family first and embraces every opportunity to explore and see the world through the eyes of a child.
Jennifer works part-time as a Registered Nurse at nationally ranked Children’s Hospital preparing children for surgery. Being a Nurse requires many skills that are very useful as a mother such as patience, and multitasking. Jennifer works close to home and plans to continue working part-time on some of the days Rusty is off duty.
About Rusty by Jennifer
There are many things that attracted me to Rusty. The first thing was his confidence and then I fell in love with his sense of humor and his compassion for people. His greatest attribute is that he always puts others before himself. Rusty is the most patient and devoted father. He enjoys teaching Sienna; they read books and play for hours. Most importantly, he is man who has a great faith in God and family. Rusty is my true soul mate, love of my life, and he balances me out perfectly. I can’t wait for him to be a Dad again and share his joy, love and creative talents with our second child. He has so much love and creativity and I can’t wait to see the adventures that he has planned.
Rusty has been a firefighter for eight years and is now an engineer driving the engine. The majority of the calls they receive are medical aid. The firefighter schedule works well for us; he works two days in a row and then comes home for four days of family fun. When he is at work Sienna loves to video chat with daddy. It’s a great work-life balance, and he has many friends he calls ”brothers” at the station.
We are so very fortunate to have both been born and raised in Southern California with both of our parents. They are all very involved in our lives and we have many family dinners together. Our parents are very excited for another grandchild. They can’t wait to share their love and time with the baby. They are always available for childcare and are eager to help at anytime. Jennifer’s parents are both retired teachers. Her younger sister Jamie has been married for three years, and is a very involved Auntie to Sienna. She is following in Jennifer’s footsteps and will become a nurse soon. Jennifer couldn’t imagine life without her sister, her best friend. Jennifer and Jamie were raised with an emphasis on sports, and education. Most weekends were spent at their vacation home in Palm Springs.
Rusty’s father was a very talented painter and mural artist while his mother was a busy stay-at-home mom. He is the youngest with two sisters Dahlia and Rainelle. Dahlia lives close by with her three sons Austin (10) , Ashton (8), and Caleb (4). They are very active in sports and love to play with Sienna at family gatherings. Rainelle is married and lives in Texas with two kids Brianna (18), and Elias (12). Rusty and his sisters were raised with an emphasis on faith and family. His parents encouraged each child’s individual talents and creativity while regularly attending church activities.
We assure you that your child will always know how much they were prayed for and loved on a daily basis. We will be there to celebrate all the exciting and wonderful times life brings, and we will be there to wipe their tears for each cut, scrape, or heartache.
Your child will also know you as the hero that you are in our eyes for doing such an incredibly selfless act of love. Through this amazing adoption journey two sets of parents become united to give the best life to a beautiful child. Most of all, thank you for taking the time to get to know our family and considering us.
