Teacher’s Corner-All About Me!

I was blessed to be raised by wonderful, loving, and supportive parents.  I feel that because of them, I grew up to be a kind, caring, and generous person.  They always supported and encouraged me in my life’s goals.  I went to college at UC Irvine where I earned a Bachelor’s degree in psychology in addition to my teaching credential.  After graduation I accepted a job teaching, and have been with the same district for the past 18 years.  Over the years I’ve taught kindergarten, 1st, 3rd, and 4th grade, and I currently teach 3rd grade.  Working with children every day is a great joy.  I walk into my classroom each day with a smile on my face, eager to see my students learn and grow.  I enjoy singing and doing arts and crafts with my students. The kids love singing songs about what we are learning in class and have a great time making penguins out of plastic water bottles during our penguin unit.

Teaching has taught me many lessons as well.  I have learned that every child is unique, and that it’s important to teach to their strengths and meet their individual needs.  My students have been successful and able to thrive because they know how much I care about them.  Teaching has been an amazing experience, and has helped prepare me to become a parent.  As a bonus, teaching allows me to have a flexible schedule that is well suited for raising children.  I recently obtained my master’s degree in education, am financially stable, and have the flexibility required to devote myself to raising a child.

During the summer I enjoy traveling.  My U.S. travels outside of California include New York, Massachusetts, Utah, Texas, Nevada, Washington State, Florida, Washington D.C., and Hawaii.  I have also traveled to Mexico, Canada, the Caribbean Islands, France, Spain, and Italy.  Since my mother’s parents were from Spain and Mexico, I especially enjoyed visiting these countries.  And ¡Si, yo hablo español!  (Yes, I speak Spanish!)

Meet My Family & Friends

My parents are a good natured and fun-loving couple who are excited about being grandparents!  My dad loves roller coasters and going to sporting events.  He’s got a good sense of humor and is a good sport, as you can see in the photo of him with a bow in his hair, courtesy of my Goddaughter, Nicole, who loves to play dress up!  My mom is the most generous person I know.  No one ever goes hungry at her house!  She makes a fabulous taco, better than any restaurant.  My dad says that’s the reason he married her.  😉  She too loves roller coasters and enjoys taking trips to Vegas for her birthday.

Even though I am technically an only child, I consider my parents’ Godchildren my sisters.  My parents’ Goddaughters lived across the street from us when I was growing up, so we played and went to school together every day.  They also went with us on our yearly vacations and trips to amusement parks. Their children call my parents “Grandpa Doug” and “Grandma Yolie”.  My parents’ Goddaughter, Julie, has two children, Gene and Nicole.  I was thrilled and honored to be chosen as Gene and Nicole’s Godmother.  I often go to their sporting events, and during family time at their house, Gene and I like to play board games and basketball while Nicole and I like to draw pictures and sing songs.  Both Gene and Nicole get along very well with other children and would love to have a new cousin courtesy of their Nina (Godmother) Laura.

During the holidays I get together with family and friends.  We enjoy spending time together, playing games, and taking photos.  I am especially close to my aunt Sylvia, who never fails to make me laugh, and always has an encouraging word.  She has a very devoted son, and always tells me I am the daughter she never had, but always wanted.  Christmas would not be complete without a few tamales and my “pan de polvo” (aka polvorones), a traditional Mexican shortbread cookie covered with cinnamon and sugar that my beloved grandmother taught me how to make.  I treasure the memories made and the time we spent together making these cookies every year.

In addition to my family, I have surrounded myself with wonderful and supportive friends who would join my family in being part of the village that would help me raise your child.  I have known my closest friends since elementary and middle school.  In addition to attending their family events and children’s birthday parties, we often meet for dinner to catch up, laugh, and share our lives.  We have been there for each other through all of life’s milestones and they are excited about my decision to adopt.  I also have several friends who have adopted children.  They are all amazing parents themselves and are eager to help me in whatever way they can.

Furry Friends

Anyone who knows me knows that I am an animal lover.  I grew up always having at least one pet (and usually more!) in the house.  Over the years I have had dogs, cats, hamsters, rats, and turtles.  I currently have 3 dogs of my own who I take to the local dog park on weekends.  All three of them love people, especially kids!  They enjoy going to the park to run around, play fetch, or find kids to pet them.

For the past few years I have also been involved with animal rescue.  One of the groups I work with has established a group for kids to teach them how to take care of and have compassion for animals.  I am eager to share my love of animals with your child.

Home Sweet Home

I love where I live!  My home has a community pool and is surrounded by trees.  There are also walking trails, horse trails, and a wildlife preserve nearby.    However, it is still close enough to easily take a day trip to the mountains, the beach, or an amusement park.  I look forward to visiting all of these places with your child.

Hopes for your baby

As a mom, I want to provide a loving and happy home in which your child will always know love and feel safe and respected.  I also would like to give them the opportunity to experience the arts, music, sports, and educational activities so that they can find and develop their talents.  Ultimately, I want to give your child the encouraging, supportive, nurturing, and structured environment they need to follow a path to wherever their dreams may take them.

Dear Baby,

I am so eager to meet you!

From the moment we first meet, and every day after that, I will encourage, support, and guide you to become the best person you can be.  You will always know that your biological mom was a loving and courageous woman who wanted the best for you.  I am honored that I was chosen to give that life to you, and I promise to do just that.

With love and a grateful heart,
