Dear Birth Mother,

My name is Lyora!Thank you so much for taking time to read my profile. When I think of you and your consideration to explore all options for your child’s future, I am in awe of your selflessness. I appreciate your love, effort, and courage in considering adoption. I have always wanted to adopt. Should you choose to consider me as an adoptive mom, he or she will be my first! Your baby will be loved, cared for, nurtured, and brought up with family values and morals. I have been lucky enough to have lived a lot of my dreams, and I am ready to dedicate my life to giving a child a chance to live his/her dreams.

A Bit about Me

I am a person who loves loving above all else. It makes me happy to help others feel good in their own skin, no matter what.  I love surprises and adventures. I’ve created a life filled with silliness, play, laughter and love.  I’ve also been described as a mother lion, because when I love someone, I am fiercely protective and nurturing at the same time.  I have been lucky enough to have had many experiences in this world, and feel that I have been ready to be a mother for all my life. A child is an enormous responsibility, and yet I feel like my whole life has prepared me for this challenge and opportunity.

My Story

I grew up in Huntington Beach California. It was a little beach town at the time, and I loved riding my bike to the sea and feeling the sand on my feet. I went to college in Israel to be a teacher, since my extended family all live there. The last year of college, I volunteered at a home for abused children, and it changed my life. I moved back to California, and studied social work. After finishing school, I moved to San Francisco, where I now live and work as a social worker.

Adoption

I’ve always wanted to adopt a child, it’s not a second choice for me. I knew early on that motherhood is a calling for me. I grew up in a loving and stable home, and I feel lucky to have a close family. My parents taught me how to love and care for others unconditionally, and I think that for a child that is being adopted, it is especially necessary to be able to love him/her unconditionally. I have always believed that there are so many children that need a loving and stable home, that rather than having a biological child, I want to adopt.

Family

I grew up in a loving and stable home, and I feel lucky to have a close family. My parents immigrated to America from Israel, after my father served as a doctor in the war. My parents left a lot back in Israel, because they wanted us to have a safer and better life. They never forgot the values of the Israeli culture: warmth, dedication to family, home cooking, and hope. They are always there for me, and I am very lucky to have the family that I do. I speak to my parents on the phone a lot, and we frequently get together to have a home cooked meal. I am very close with my family, especially my nieces.

Cutie Camp: A Family Tradition

Every year my nieces attend a week long “Cutie Camp” at my house. It’s like a sleep away camp, except I lead the field trips, activities, and. One of their favorite days of cutie camp is outdoor water day, where we go to my parents house, have water balloon fights, and play on the slip and slide.
This special time I spend with my nieces is the highlight of my summer!

My Friends

My friends are the type of people who I can tell anything to, and I do. I met my best friend, Dora, in high school, and no matter what is going on in our lives, we are able to just “get” one another. All of my friends are extremely loving and supportive, and I am truly thankful.

Home

I live in San Francisco, which is a diverse city with a lot of charm. My home is warm and airy. It is two story artist loft, which I’ve painted and decorated in the theme of my heart: play and love. The city is beautiful, and always has so many fun things to do. I live a few blocks away from two children’s museums, the Exploratorium and the Creativity Museum, as well as parks, an ice skating rink, and a carousel. There are also so many opportunities to explore nature. It’s just a short drive to the Redwood national forest, beaches, and the mountains.

Work

I’ve been a social worker and therapist for over fifteen years, helping children and families who have been through trauma. Working with children has shown me that the thing children and adults need the most is to be loved. I work at a non-profit, which provides therapy for homeless children and families. I love coming to work every day and interacting with the kids. The kids that come to the agency have been through so much, and yet despite living in many scary situations, they still are able to express themselves and find a way to survive. The kids and families are an inspiration to me. In helping people grow and heal, I’ve learned that everyone deserves care, compassion, acceptance, and respect.

Hobbies

I am a very curious person, and am constantly exploring new hobbies. I’ve taken classes on everything from flying trapeze to welding. One of my favorite hobbies is making things like costumes and crafts. Using my imagination to create things is a big part of my life. I also love to bake and decorate cakes. I can’t wait until a loved one has a birthday, so I can decorate their cake according to their favorite things: forests, horses, castles, anything.
