Hello! We are Paula and Luiz!
We are so grateful for this opportunity to talk to you about our family. We hope this is the first step in getting to know you! We live live in the San Francisco Bay Area, about 30 minutes north of the Golden Gate Bridge, in the city of Novato.
Our family includes Elizabeth (our 3 year old daughter), who can’t wait to be a big sister! We also have two, fourlegged friends by the name of Charlie (aka “Little Yeti) and Otis (aka “the Black Mamba”). They are two rescue dogs that love nothing more than playing with Elizabeth in the backyard. And while Elizabeth loves playing with her mom and dad and her puppies, and she would love to have a brother or sister. We have always talked about having two or three children, but along the way we have had four miscarriages. We were told in multiple ways that continuing to try to have children biologically would be too dangerous. Elizabeth is our miracle baby and we count our blessings every day. We can’t wait to grow our family through the gift of adoption! Thanks for learning about us!
About Us: We met online through a website called Catholic Match. No, we are not those types that preach to others, but we did both feel that it is very important to have a strong faith-based marriage because life is full of challenges sometimes. We feel it is our faith that is what keeps us rooted and able to overcome anything.
By Luiz: When I was on this website I decided to do a keyword search. I entered the words, “Portuguese”, and “goofy”. I chose these words because I grew up in a big Portuguese family (my Mom’s side), and came to love the passion and charisma that Portuguese women have. When I clicked search, one woman popped up on my screen. She was and is the most beautiful woman I have ever seen, and her eyes told a story of their own. When I looked in to her eyes I saw a certain joy, peace, and most of all, purity. We started chatting online that week, we met about a month later, and when we met we decided that we would get married one year from that day. This first date happened about eight years ago and we haven’t looked back since.
About Paula: When my parents and I migrated to the United States from Portugal, over 36 years ago, they always told me that I would have opportunities here to become whatever I set my heart to do. When I began my career in education I started from the bottom, and was determined to reach a level that would make positive changes for generations to come. I have always looked for what is best for the children. Currently I’m working with a nonprofit group that is trying to model a different way of providing school meals (fresh, local, organic, season, non-GMO meals). It’s been a challenge, but when you see children eating nutritious meals, and you know that these are the only meals they will eat that day, it confirms that you made the right decision. I’M EXTREMELY BLESSED TO WORK FOR A SCHOOL DISTRICT THAT IS FAMILY ORIENTED. Because of this flexibility I am able to work from home a big portion of each week. I’m able to enjoy my mornings with Elizabeth, cooking breakfast, going to the park or just hanging out and then being home shortly after her nap so that we can do an afternoon activity. Having my special time with Elizabeth and husband is truly a gift because we have created memories that will be with us forever. I can’t wait to be a mother again! I grew up in a big Portuguese family. I was always surrounded by family and friends as a child. Having a warm and inviting home is something that I treasure because those times are so precious. My culture is a huge part of who I am and I’m so proud of my roots. It is important to me that my child, and hopefully children, embrace the beautiful cultures that this world has.
Written by Luiz: I think many of us have seen the movie, “There is Something about Mary”. Well, there is definitely something about Paula. Everyone who meets or gets to know Paula agrees that she lights up the room wherever she goes. She does this with a big smile, a smile that you see in her eyes, and she carries a positive energy with her at all times. Paula is very intelligent and has been quite successful, but she isn’t arrogant. And most of all she is incredibly compassionate and nurturing, qualities that have played an integral role in my life and Elizabeth’s. Paula loves to cuddle with us all and read Elizabeth one of her favorite books, and she loves to bake. Paula cannot wait to raise another child and do what she does best, being a Mom!
About Luiz: Since college I have worked in the afternoons as a swim coach, and it was coaching where I developed a love for working with children. Because of this, about four years ago I decided to go back to school to get my teaching credential. I now work in an online school, grades K-12. I PINCH MYSELF EVERY DAY BECAUSE I LOVE WHAT I DO, I work from home, and I have a flexible schedule to where I get to spend a lot of quality time with my family. I LOVE TO BE ACTIVE! I wake up every morning at 5 am and alternate days swimming laps or jogging. I love to spend my time finding new trails to go hiking with the family, taking Elizabeth to the pool, going on bike rides, finding new adventures around the house with Elizabeth, going out to eat, or putting my feet up with a good book or an exciting movie. I can’t wait to do these things with your child!
Written by Paula: LUIZ IS TRULY A SPECIAL PERSON! He reminds me of a big teddy bear, with his big presence, but inside he is a gentle soul. Everyone in his life knows that he will take the time and effort to make sure that everyone in his life feels special. Even strangers get to experience this when he goes out of his way to say hello, smile, start a conversation or give them whatever he has to offer. Elizabeth and I are extremely blessed to have a man in our lives that will provide, protect and love us unconditionally. I know how much Luiz loves children. I can’t wait to see him be a father again!
Our Family & Friends
Meet Elizabeth: She has an adventurous spirit like her Dad, and she is always looking to put a little different spin on each day. She loves the outdoors, whether she is playing in our big backyard, or just going on a walk, and she loves to create new things. She can be found working on an art project, building a castle with blocks, or dancing or singing to some good tunes. Yes she likes a little of everything! Elizabeth can be independent but she really loves to play with other children, and she especially loves to express her love to other children. She is always holding hands, hugging and kissing other children. She is a very loving little girl! ELIZABETH CAN’T WAIT TO BE a big sister!
Our Family and Friends: Paula’s Family, including her mom and dad, bother and sister-in-law and three nieces/nephews, lives a few hours away. They are a VERY large Portuguese family that does absolutely everything together and have many traditions year-round. What sticks out about all of their family get-togethers is the amount of food that everyone prepares and brings. They love to eat and they love to sit around, play cards, and just laugh and talk. All the kids run around and have a great time!! Luiz’s Family, which includes his Mom and two sisters, lives within 30 minutes of where we reside. His dad, whom was his best friend, passed away unexpectedly, 3 months ago. Growing up they had strong family values instilled within them. Whether they were on a family outing or just hanging out at home with their many pets, they always had a good time. Luiz cherishes every moment with his family. Today is no different. They still get together all the time and look forward to all of these events. His mom lives just a few minutes away, which allows us to see her multiple times a week.
Our Home and Closing Thoughts
Our Home and Community: We are blessed to live in such a family friendly city like Novato, CA! We live 30 minutes from San Francisco and 30 minutes from the beach. We have a small, quaint downtown, with small neighborhoods and various ranches scattered around the city. We are fortunate to have stumbled upon this neighborhood when we moved here 6 years ago. Our home is a big but cozy home that is set up for a family. When you enter the house, you enter the upstairs where you have two large family rooms and the kitchen. This is where we spend most of our time. Downstairs we have the bedrooms, and out in the large backyard we have our two dogs, Charlie and Otis. Charlie and Otis sleep on the deck right off our master bedroom. Both Otis and Charlie love playing with Elizabeth and she too is always asking to go outside and play with them.
Thank you for taking the time to get to know us! We both look forward to meeting you and we do hope we are considered after reading our profile. Over the years we have been working towards this dream of ours, finding a life-long partner to settle down with, and to have a family to share our love with. Elizabeth will be a great big sister, and I know that we will be able to shower your Baby with the love that he/she deserves. We are both very compassionate, sensitive, and caring individuals, that feel every child needs that constant care and attention in order to help them reach their fullest potential in all areas of their life. The love we feel in our hearts for Elizabeth is second to none, and we look forward to loving your baby the same way!
