Hello! We are Samantha & Dunnington from Anchorage, Alaska
Dear Friend: Thank you so much for taking the time to learn about us and for considering us as parents for your child. We hope that through our profile, you will be able to see the love we have for each other, our families, and our future child. We want you to know how much respect and admiration we have for you already. We cannot imagine what a difficult decision this is for you, and we are so impressed with and grateful for your selfless decision to consider adoption for your child. We know that you want what is best for your baby and we would be honored to spend the rest of our lives striving daily to provide that for him or her. We would be truly blessed to welcome your baby into our family, and to provide him or her with a life filled with love, opportunity, and security, with healthy doses of fun, joy and adventure mixed in.
We are so excited to become parents and welcome a child into our home and family. We have always wanted to adopt!
About Us, written by Dunny: Samantha and I grew up in Anchorage, Alaska but never really knew one another. When we were back home for Christmas one year, we ran into each other and learned we were living within blocks of each other in San Francisco. That was all the chance we needed, and started dating shortly thereafter. With our shared values, and sense of adventure, we quickly knew we were meant to spend our lives together. We were married in the mountains of Tahoe, California, surrounded by family and friends. We are very close with our family, and can’t wait to add a child to our immediate family.
Meet Dunnington (Dunny)
Introducing Dunny, by Dunny: I was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska as the youngest of three children. My parents were married for 54 years until my dad passed. I am extremely close to my brother and sister. My childhood was filled with hiking and camping trips, with lots of soccer mixed in.
I followed my sister to San Francisco for college and was lucky to have her nearby when I attended law school. I am the deputy director of the Alaska Public Defender Agency, battling to protect the rights of the most vulnerable Alaskans. As the director, I no longer attend court and have the flexibility to work from home with our child and to always be available when he or she needs me. I am most excited to take our child skiing, ice-skating, hiking, camping, and to give them all the opportunities that may bring them joy.
More About Dunny, by Sam: Dunny will be an amazing father! He is very funny, smart, and compassionate. He is dedicated to his family and friends, and a natural with our nieces, nephews, and friends’ children. He is athletic and adventurous, always planning fun hiking and camping trips. He is patient, kind, and supportive. I would not be half the person I am without him. I can’t wait to parent our future child with him.
Meet Samantha (Sam)
Introducing Sam, by Sam: grew up with my older sister and parents in Anchorage, Alaska. My childhood was filled with figure skating shows and competitions, and outdoor adventures. After my parents separated, I spent summers and Thanksgiving with my father and family in Texas.
I graduated from Santa Clara University with a degree in Political Science. I went on to pursue my law degree in California. I’ve practiced law in the private and public sector. As a public defender, I am privileged to represent those in need. I am fortunate to have flexibility with my job.
I look forward to family trips with our future child. I can’t wait to fill their life with love, adventure, music and to foster their interests and talents. I can’t wait to share the beauty of Alaska with our child.
More About Sam, by Dunny: Sam is a child’s dream. She is a beloved aunt! She will be an incredible mother. She is fiercely loyal, and works tirelessly to help those in need. Sam loves to laugh and make sure that everyone is happy and cared for. She is a planner and a provider: she always has just the right toy or game available for a visiting child. I am so lucky to have her as my wife and best friend.
Our Family & Friends
How we celebrate the holidays: We are fortunate to be close with our families. They are so excited for us to have a child. We get to spend Christmas with them in Alaska. We alternate Thanksgivings with our sisters in the California sun. Sam’s sister lives in San Diego with our niece and nephew, and brother-in-law. Those Thanksgiving trips are highlighted by trips to the beach and the Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving. When we are not celebrating in San Diego we are with Dunny’s family in Oakland, where his sister and our brother-in-law host along with our nieces and nephew. The highlight is usually a family ferry ride across the bay for lunch at the San Francisco Ferry Building.
Sam’s Family: I am so lucky to have my mother live nearby in Anchorage. We are very close. She is a generous and wonderful grandmother. Even though my sister and her family live in San Diego, we are incredibly close. We talk on the phone almost daily, and don’t let more than a few months pass without a visit. We were both maids of honor in each other’s wedding. I can’t get enough of my amazing nieces and nephews. I am also close with my brother, who is a Marine and currently deployed. Though my father, Sam, is deceased, I keep his memory alive with my siblings.
Dunny’s Family: My mother, brother, and sister-in law live less than a mile from us. My mom was an elementary school teacher for thirty-nine years and loves to work on art projects with her grandkids. My father was an amazing grandfather until he passed, and our child will know him well through stories. We are all together a couple of times a month. Though in California, we are fortunate to see my sister and her family two or three times a year and talk almost daily the rest of the year.
Adventure & Travel: We love outdoor adventure and travel. In 2016, we traveled to exciting destinations in Mexico, California, Washington State, and New York. We celebrated our ten-year wedding anniversary in Tahoe, where we were married, and Dunny’s 40th birthday in New York City. We completed a sixteen-mile mountain run for Cystic Fibrosis. We enjoyed weekends filled with hiking and camping. Dunny ran a 23-mile mountain race with a glacial river crossing in the middle. Sam caught some delicious halibut on a boat in world famous Kachemak Bay.
Our Home and Closing Thoughts
Our Home: We are thrilled to welcome a child of any race or gender into our lives. We live in downtown Anchorage, one block from the elementary school that Dunny attended, and two blocks from the largest park in Anchorage. At the end of our street is an entrance to our world-famous trail system, with 135 miles of paved bike/jog/ski trails. We are surrounded by water and mountains, and fortunate to live in a community that embraces diversity. We are proud to serve our community as public defenders. Our city has an incredible local music scene that we can’t wait to immerse our future child in.
Meet Harold: Harold is a rescue dog from the Alaskan village of Emmonak and is a mix of Catahoula, husky and lab. He loves people and kids, and going on hikes and runs with us. At home, he loves to cuddle and play. He can’t wait to play fetch with sticks and snuggle with our future child!
Thank you! We will devote our lives to providing your child with all the love, security, joy, opportunity and adventure that you could hope for him or her. We want your child to always know where he or she came from. We plan to raise our future child with an understanding and appreciation for you and the sacrifice you are making for him or her. His or her life will be filled with love, family, a great education, travel, and knowledge of your deep love for him or her. Thank you again for considering us.
