Sasha and Dave

DEAR BIRTHMOTHER

Aloha! We are Sasha and Dave from sunny Southern California. We are an adventurous and loving couple who has always very much wanted children to share our lives with. Being parents means everything to us.

After years of unexplained infertility, we are so excited to add to our family through adoption. We can’t wait until that wonderful day when our future child is born and we get to hold him or her in our arms for the first time.

We understand this must be a very difficult time and decision for you.  From the bottom of our hearts, we greatly appreciate you taking the time to learn a little bit about us.  We hope this gives you a glimpse into our lives, who we are and what type of home and family your child would grow up in if you were to choose us.

OUR STORY

We met 11 years ago at a trade show where Sasha was selling massage equipment. Dave walked into her booth and she immediately noticed him and gave him a little extra attention and a longer demo massage. After getting a business card from his friend, Sasha called and asked Dave out on his friend’s voicemail. Dave didn’t get the message until a couple of weeks later, when he called Sasha from the airport where he was about to leave on a month long trip to Germany. So, our first date had to wait until Dave returned and it finally happened almost two months after we met, but it was well worth the wait.

Although it took us a bit to go on that magical first date, it wasn’t long before we fell in love, knew we were right for each other and started traveling together. Our first trip was to Hawaii for Thanksgiving to see Sasha’s family. We love to experience the Aloha spirit!

We share the same values and beliefs, and many of the same interests, and we both come from very loving, supportive families. We are not officially married, but we are best friends and still madly in love after 11 years together and we are 100% committed to one another and our relationship forever.

ABOUT SASHA

I grew up in a small town in Vermont and was an only child for 13 years until my sister, Ashley, was born. My mother passed away from a car accident when I was a year old and my father remarried a wonderful woman when I was 10. I had always wanted a sibling and I ended up with three of the most amazing sisters anyone could ever ask for!

I come from a very close, athletic, outdoorsy family, so I have always enjoyed sports and being outside, especially anything that involves the beach, water or snow, although my favorite sport in school was lacrosse. I also studied French and Spanish and I still speak both languages enough to get by if need be. In high school I had the opportunity to live in Paris for a summer. I traveled to Hawaii a lot growing up to visit family, so I got the best of both worlds, the ski slopes and the beaches.

My grandmother, Giggy (I nicknamed her when I was learning to talk), was my rock for many years and I am blessed to have had her in my life for as long as I did. Her mild manner, quiet strength and unconditional love taught me more than words can express and I want to pass all of that along to your child.

I graduated from the University of Vermont with a degree in theater and psychology. I have loved acting and singing since I was very young and I was the lead in my first grade Christmas musical where I played Mary and sang to my little baby Jesus. I still remember part of the song. I have since done many plays and musicals, as well as some short films, and I greatly enjoy going to the theater.

I worked as a counselor at a youth shelter for a couple of years, which was by far the most rewarding “job” I have ever had. To me, if I helped even one child, then my life is richer. I now work from home, managing a vacation rental property in Hawaii that I co-own with family, and I am very much looking forward to being a STAY AT HOME MOMMY.

By Dave: Sasha is an amazing partner and I am so lucky to have found her.

Personality wise we are very different, but that works well for us. Sasha is an excellent planner and keeps our lives well organized. Whether we are going camping, planning a barbeque for family and friends or going on a long trip, she makes sure nothing is forgotten. Sasha is a list maker. If by chance something is forgotten or could make an event better, it goes on the list for next time.

She also loves to be spontaneous and is always ready to try something new.

She is a great cook and makes yummy, healthy dinners for us every night. One of my favorite things about Sasha is that she often includes a love note in the lunch she packs for me every day.

She really enjoys listening to and helping friends in need. She is the most loyal and supportive person I know, not only to me, but to all her friends and family. Sasha puts 100% into whatever she puts her mind to and I know being a mom will be her number one priority.

ABOUT DAVE

I grew up in La Canada, a small suburb of Los Angeles, CA. I played many sports growing up. I was very active in boy scouts, which involved a lot of bike riding, hiking, and camping, and I earned the rank of eagle scout.

My parents strongly enforced the value of education and work ethic. I spent a lot of time in the garage building various projects, including remote control boats and cars. My father did all the home improvement and repairs himself, so I learned these skills from him, along with auto repair. I was always interested in technology and how things work from a very young age. I took everything apart to figure out how it functioned.

I went to college for electrical engineering in Northern California where I also played on the school volleyball team. After graduating and a few years of working in San Francisco, I moved back to Southern California to be closer to family and begin graduate school. Very soon after moving back to LA, I met Sasha. I was working full time in construction and getting my masters.

I now work as an electrical engineer and I have the flexibility to start and end my work day whenever it is most convenient for our family. I always have numerous projects that I am working on. I do all our home improvement and repairs and I am often fixing things for my friends and family as well.

I like to be physically active, playing beach volleyball about once a week. I also enjoy gardening, woodworking, cabinet building, fishing, and diving.

By Sasha: Six months into our relationship, I told my grandmother “He’s the one!” She said, “Whoa, slow down, that’s kind of quick, are you sure?” But I was sure!

People often ask me, “What qualities attracted you to Dave?” I have thought about that question long and hard and there are many amazing qualities that Dave has, but the most important to me is the way he makes me feel. On our first date, he simply made me feel the way I wanted to feel in a relationship, and he still does to this day. I jokingly asked him to marry me on that date because I found out he loves to be barefoot and so do I. It was meant to be!

Dave’s sense of humor always makes me laugh and sometimes catches me off guard, coming when I least expect it and most need it. What you see is what you get with Dave. He is very intelligent, humble, and will do anything for a friend. His gorgeous blue eyes still make me melt.

Dave is just a good person at heart and we have so much fun together. He helps me to look at things from different perspectives. He is a big muscular man on the outside and a big teddy bear on the inside. He can fix or make or do anything and if he can’t, he will figure out how. It truly amazes and impresses me.

HE IS SO VERY CUTE WITH KIDS AND THEY LOVE HIM. He has been the love of my life since our first date.

Dave’s Favorites

  • FAVORITE STUFFED ANIMAL: MY TEDDY BEAR, FREDDIE
  • FAVORITE BOARD GAME:  CRIBBAGE (MY GRANDMOTHER TAUGHT ME)
  • FAVORITE HOBBY: DIVING
  • FAVORITE VACATION DESTINATION: BAJA, MEXICO
  • FAVORITE TIME OF YEAR: SUMMER, BECAUSE THE DAYS ARE LONG

OUR FAMILY & FRIENDS

Both of our families are very excited for more children, especially more grandchildren!

Sasha’s Family: I have 3 younger sisters, Ashley, Maile and Laurel, with whom I have a very close relationship. They all live in Boston, but we are always in close contact. They can’t wait to be aunties! Ashley and Maile are both married and Maile and her husband, Dan, are expecting their first child. It’s a boy!

My parents, Peter and Debbie, who are the best parents a girl could ask for, are SO excited to become grandparents for the first time. They have been “patiently” waiting, dropping hints here and there…and everywhere. They live in Vermont and we usually visit them and my sisters, as well as other relatives in the area, at least a couple times a year. I’m sure that number will increase once we have a child.

We also travel to Hawaii to see family at least once a year. I have a very large extended family on all sides, with many aunts, uncles and cousins, ranging in age from newborn to 94.

The amount of love your child will receive from everyone…there are no words.

Dave’s Family: I am the middle child of three. I have an older brother, Donny, and a younger sister, Catherine.

My brother lives 12 minutes away with his wife, Jen, and their two boys, Peter and Drake. Peter, the youngest, was adopted. We see them often and the boys love to play in our pool. We taught Drake to do flips off the diving board and we plan to teach Peter tricks as well.

My sister and her husband, Carl, live 2 hours away with their two kids, Alexander and Phoebe, and they also love to come play in our pool.

My parents, Alan and Rose, live 45 minutes away and we often go to their home for family dinners and socializing. Grandpa cooks gourmet meals while grandma enjoys every moment with the grandkids. Grandpa is semi-retired and Grandma is retired, so they have plenty of time to spend with all their grandchildren.

Everyone is looking forward to welcoming a new child into the family. The more, the merrier!

OUR TRAVELS & HOBBIES

Our favorite trip together was to Greece, where we spent 3 weeks learning about their history, experiencing their culture, and exploring 3 different islands. We have also traveled together to Alaska, Mexico and Canada. Individually, we have both traveled to many other countries with friends and family over the years.

We plan to continue traveling with our future child and are very much looking forward to showing him or her as much of the world and other cultures as possible.

We regularly take trips to Hawaii and New England. When we go to Hawaii, we always enjoy horseback riding, 4-wheeling and sailing on Sasha’s family’s ranch. When we go to New England, we love to visit our family home on Cape Cod during the summers and hit the ski slopes in the winter.

We enjoy pretty much anything outdoors, including going to the lake to camp, waterski and wakeboard, as well as snow skiing and snowboarding. We like to go to the beach, play horseshoes, hike, and play tennis. We also enjoy playing board games, cuddling with each other and our two kitties, watching movies and occasionally going out to eat with friends.

OUR HOME AND COMMUNITY

We live in a suburb of Los Angeles in a quiet, safe residential neighborhood in a 3-bedroom home with a large recreation room and a back yard with a pool. We often host pool parties with friends and family and we are both working on perfecting our pool and ping pong games. Sasha used to be a lifeguard, so everyone is safe in the pool.

We bought our house together 7 years ago with the anticipation of raising a family, so we made sure that we live in a safe area that has an excellent school system. It is a great neighborhood for walks and there are a few parks and tennis courts nearby. We often walk to our local movie theater and go to the beach which is a short drive away.

We look forward to sharing all our community has to offer with your child, including amusement parks, museums, aquariums, zoos and hiking trails. And the ski slopes are only a couple hours away.

Meet Jasper & Bianca: We rescued our two kitties, Jasper and Bianca, when they were two months old.  They are now 2-year-old cuddle bugs. Bianca is extremely smart and loves to play fetch like a dog. She will drop her favorite pink toy on our feet to let us know she is ready to play and the game begins. Jasper’s favorite toy is crumpled up paper that he catches in the air.

We also sponsor a pot bellied piggy named Speedo who was very much in need of our help.
