Choose a Family

Picture 1

Dear Birthmother,

Words cannot begin to express how much I admire your courage and strength in choosing adoption for your baby.  It is such a testament of true love and selflessness. I have dreamed of being a mom since I was a little girl and I am honored and blessed to have you consider me as an adoptive parent.  I want you to know that I will love your child with every ounce of my heart and soul, and raise them in a home filled with life, laughter, and LOTS of love!

My favorite movie of all time is the Sound of Music and at one part, Maria VonTrap says, “Let’s start at the very beginning, a very good place to start”. I was born and raised in Daly City, California and have lived in the San Francisco Area for my entire adult life. I love living in California and have all of my family and friends close by! Like I mentioned before, I have wanted to be a mommy since I was a little girl and remember wrapping up my dolls in blankets to put down for a nap, and even pushing my poor kitty around in a stroller with a onesie on! I could not wait to be 13 so that my parents would let me babysit and my first real job was in the playroom at my gym. I cannot remember a time, that I was not somehow involved with children and can truly say that I have spent my entire life waiting to give my WHOLE heart and SOUL to a baby of my own.  In the past 7 years, I have been a huge part of my two little cousins, Sophie and Ian’s lives and most recently my best friend’s son, Jack’s life.  Taking care of them for days at a time, and overnight, “playing mom” as I like to call it, has just felt so right. The connection that I make with children feels so magical and natural—my friends and family comment on it all the time and tell me what a wonderful mom I am going to be someday! I am now at a point in my life where I am so ready, both emotionally and financially to become a mom and my heart is BURSTING with joy!

This is my Village (MY FAMILY)

My family means everything to me and they are over the moon excited to begin this journey with me! I lived at home with my twin brother, Dan, my parents, Pat and Marianne, and a few different pets for 30 years. I had a wonderful childhood filled with so many happy memories—-waking up Saturday morning and watching the Smurfs with my brother while my parents made a big breakfast, family road trips to Disneyland, camping, or to my grandpa’s summer house in Columbia California, or even just sitting down to eat dinner every night together and talk about the day. My twin brother and I were so lucky to be able live at home while we went to college and save money. Even when we moved out of my parent’s house, my brother and I moved in together and have lived together for the past 6 years. He works as a morning news director and is an amazing photographer! We pick a new place to travel to every summer and he takes pictures and then creates a calendar we give out at Christmas! He is truly my best friend and will be the best Uncle! My mom and dad are both retired and are two of the most amazing people I know. My mom was able to stay at home when we were growing up and I learned so much about the mom I want to be—reading to us every day, taking us to the park, sitting down and playing a board game with us, being there for us even now as adults—my mom has always put us first. My dad is my real-life super hero and I will always be daddy’s girl! He and I are very close and he is so excited to be a grandpa! My family is behind me 10000% and will be such a huge part of my mommy hood journey.

“Friends are the family we chose for ourselves”

I am so blessed to have the most supportive, loving, and generous friends. They truly are like my family and are there for me no matter what! I met my best friend Genny in first grade and we have been likes sisters ever since. Her son is like a nephew to me and she has made me such a huge part of his life. As she and her husband get ready to have another, we are so excited to raise our families together. I have another very close friend and business partner who is a single mom to her 2-year old son, and she has given me such tremendous advice about creating a balance in life. She has only strengthened my belief in the importance and value of family and what an amazing gift I am being given. The moment my friends knew I had begun this process, they were asking me how they can help—from writing letters of recommendation to giving me playpens and strollers and clothes! I lay in bed smiling each night as I envision my life as a mom surrounded by a village of support and love.

MY Career and Passion

I wanted to be a teacher from about the age of 6 years old and still remember lining up all my stuffed animals and cabbage patch kids in rows and playing school for hours. I would mimic the phrases my favorite teachers used at school and was so excited at the end of the school year to bring home old textbooks and work books for my “summer school” sessions in the playroom! The moment I walked into a classroom as a first year teacher, I knew I had found my passion. I am currently teaching third grade, but have taught in grades K-4. I have a Masters Degree in Teaching Reading and strive to foster a love of reading in children. Being a teacher has also shown me just how much I want to be a mother. I feel so passionate about creating a classroom that feels like home to my students—where they feel safe to come every day and know they are loved and supported unconditionally. I always tell my students I am their school mom and I truly love each and every one of them. I always tease the parents that once their child is in my class, they are in my heart forever. The relationship I build with my students and their families is so important to me. I have been teaching for over 12 years now, and am still in contact with the families from my very first class. My email signature ends with this quote and it sums up my teaching philosophy perfectly:  “They may forget what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel.” -Carol Buchner.

I also began working as an independent skin consultant about 16 months ago and have worked so hard to build my business. I am THRILLED to know that because of this extra income, I will be able to work part time as a teacher and spend more time at home with my child.

Home Sweet Home

Much like my classroom, the moment I decided to become a mom, I wanted to create the most nurturing, warm, safe, family-filled home I could for my son or daughter. I spent an entire year selling my condo and searching for the perfect place to call home. The moment I drove up Hazelwood Drive, I knew I was in a family neighborhood.  Always thinking like a teacher and a mom, I was excited to find both a school and a park within walking distance. As I pulled up in front of the house my heart filled with joy as I had found my dream home—a beautiful three bedroom, two bathroom home, with a great big backyard, a deck, and a fruit tree! I immediately began envisioning family BBQ’s and afternoons playing on the grass together. Home is truly where the heart is and I could not be happier.

Squirmy Kitty

My sweet kitty is 10 years old and is the most mellow, gentle pet I have every owned. She spends most of her time these days cuddled up under the blanket fast asleep until her belly wakes her up to come on out for a snack. My family always had a cat in the house growing up, and they were such an important part of my childhood. The companionship and love of an animal is a beautiful gift and it is something I cannot wait to share with my child. I know that Squirmy will be the perfect furry big sister!

It is hard to get everything I feel in my heart into words, but I hope I have given you a glimpse into my life and the wonderful people I am surrounded by to support me and my son or daughter. I have achieved so many of my dreams—graduating college, earning my Masters degree, doing the job I love, living in my dream house—and have spent my entire life preparing to be the best mother I can be. I am ready to welcome my new son or daughter into this world and begin making our dreams come true together. Thank you again for your courage and openness to sharing the most precious gift of life with me.
