Maggie and Rob

Dear Birthmother,

Thank you for considering the choice of adoption.  We admire your strength and courage.  We understand how important this decision is to find the right parents for your child and hope you find what you are looking for in our letter.

Rob & Maggie:  The Beginning…..
Our paths crossed a few times in college, but we did not become good friends until the spring of 1999.  Maggie’s brother Mark invited us to join him for dinner at a restaurant in Malibu where both Rob and Mark had worked.   From the moment we sat down, there was an instant chemistry between us.  We started dating the next week and a year and a half later, we were engaged.  We got married in June of 2002 and went to Maui and Kauai for our honeymoon.  It was beautiful.  We loved Hawaii and can’t wait to go back.

Where we live:
We recently bought our second house in Southern California.  It’s very special to us because it is the same house Maggie grew up in.  She moved there when she was 3 years old and lived there until she left for college.  It has a big back yard with palm trees, a lot of grass and a pool.  We have 2 dogs, both labs, named Shadow and Hunter.  They love all the grass and the pool too.  Both Shadow and Hunter love to play with kids as well as give them plenty of kisses.

The house is nice and spacious.  It’s a ranch style house that has 3 big bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.  We have already begun decorating one of the rooms as a nursery.  Since we do not know if we are having a boy or girl, we have decorated it with neutral colors like green, blue and yellow.

About Maggie:
When I was three, my family moved to southern California. I grew up with my three older brothers in the house that Rob and I just bought.  I am very close in age to all my brothers, so we have always had a close relationship.  I have always wanted to be a mother. My mom was such an inspiration to me. She taught my brothers and I to be respectful, loving and considerate and she was able to discipline us without ever raising her voice. I remember going places as a family and hearing people tell my mom and dad how well behaved their children were. I look back now and realize we were respectful because they were respectful and loving with us.  I began working with kids when I was in high school as an after school counselor. That job was so rewarding to me that I began spending my summers as a camp counselor. In college, I earned a Liberal Studies degree and went on to get my teaching credential.  I have been teaching first grade at the same school for 10 years now and I love it. Now that Rob and I are living in my childhood home, we can’t wait to start a family of our own! I look forward to all the things a mom does like tucking our little one in at night and reading bedtime stories. I look forward to volunteering in their class as room-mom or helping to be a team mom on a sports team. I look forward to comforting our child when they get a scrape or bump. I look forward to taking our child for bike rides in the neighborhood or just playing in the pool. I look forward to all the responsibilities and joys of being a mom.

Although we have tried to have a baby, we have not been successful.   We always knew we would adopt if we were unable to get pregnant and now feel that we are ready to begin this journey. When I first met Rob there were many things about his personality that I fell in love with. He was very considerate, sensitive, protective and giving. I knew he would be a great husband and father. As we began dating, I would bring him to family parties and he was the one person all the kids couldn’t wait to see. He would get down on the ground and play with them and he was never too tired to give a piggy-back ride to my niece or nephew. Now, five years later we are ready to have kids of our own. Rob will be a wonderful father. He is patient, loving and always finds time to laugh and have fun. A good friend told us recently that the baby we adopt will hit the lottery when they get Rob and I for adoptive parents. In my heart, I believe we will be great parents. I feel that we will be blessed to receive a baby to nurture, love and guide through their life. It is a journey I can’t wait to begin.

About Rob:
I come from a fairly big family which includes my two brothers and one sister.  When I was eleven years old, my mom and dad decided to adopt my sister, Nicole.  Nicole is an awesome sister and probably the smartest one in the family.  She recently graduated from college with an Engineering degree.  When we were all kids, my family and I would travel a lot.  Since my mom is from England, we would go there and visit my grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.

After high school, I went to college and graduated with a Finance degree.  I then got a job working at a printing and advertising company.   The company is a family run company and many of my childhood friends work there.  I have worked there for 10 years now as an account executive.   My company does a lot of work with entertainment companies.  We print posters and other things you would see in theaters or at video stores.

I really enjoy sports and being outdoors.  I golf whenever I get the chance and play on a men’s softball team with friends and coworkers.  I love taking our two dogs to the park and throwing the ball to them in our backyard.   I recently coached a basketball team for 8 year old boys.  It was a great experience and I want to do it again when I have a son or daughter.

I can’t wait to have kids.  When Maggie and I decided to adopt, I really got excited because I want to be a dad and now we were taking the next step.  I look forward to being a dad.  I want to teach my child how to do all of the things I love and most importantly I want to teach my child how to be a good person.   When Maggie and I met, I fell in love with her very quickly.  I found that Maggie was everything I wanted in a wife.   Not only was she beautiful, but she is has so much to offer.  She is very caring, loving, patient and would do anything for the people she loves.   Many of our friends have kids and when we get together, most of the time you will find Maggie in their kid’s room playing with them.  Since Maggie is a first grade teacher, she has a lot of experience with young children.  Sometimes, I will take the afternoon off and go and visit Maggie’s class.   It’s amazing to see how she teaches and interacts with her students.  She has a way of teaching her kids and getting respect from them without ever having to raise her voice.  All of the parent’s of the upcoming first graders want Maggie as their child’s teacher.

I know Maggie and I will be good parents.   We both have always wanted children and are ready to start a family of our own.  We look forward to every single day with our child.

Thank you for taking the time to read our letter.  We hope you found what you are looking for in us.
