Beth and Sean

Dear Birthmother,

Hi! We are Sean and Beth and we are thrilled that you are reading this letter. Our own experience with the adoption of our daughter, Kylee, gave us a glimpse of the emotional struggle involved in placing a child. Whatever you choose to do, we have the warmest hopes for you and the baby you are about to bring into this world.

We are excited to have the opportunity to expand our happy little family. We can’t wait to welcome a new baby into our lives.  We absolutely love being parents and are ready to provide your child with everything he or she will ever need; unconditional love, family, understanding, educational opportunities, and most importantly, parents in a loving and secure relationship.

About Us: We met while working for the same race car team up in Northern California. We spent a great deal of time together building a strong friendship even before we started dating. Now, after being married for 8 years, we are still madly in love with each other. We are the best of friends and love laughing together each and every day.  We have a deep love and trust for one another, and our marriage is strong and still growing. We are a great team and support each other’s interests and passions.

Sean- written by Beth
“Sean is my best friend and the love of my life. He has a heart of gold and everyone loves him. He’s a terrific father. People compliment him on a daily basis about what a wonderful daddy he is.  When I see him around children, it makes me realize what an amazing man I married”.

Sean grew up in the San Luis Obispo area and raced cars and motorcycles when he was young. He has been a Crew Chief/Race Car engineer for a successful Indy Race Car team for many years and now works as a motor specialist for a race car series. Sean has created his job so that he can spend more time at home. He is truly a “Jack of all Trades”. He’s painted our house and even built a deck for us to sit on in the evenings to have family dinners.   He’s a dynamic cook. One of his favorite “Daddy-time” activities is cooking dinner each night with Kylee. They are a great team! Sean is a kid at heart. He’s the first one to jump in the moon bounce, he goes on all the rides at amusement parks, and enjoys running through the sprinklers with Kylee and her friends.

Beth (written by Sean)
“Beth loves children more than anything else in this world. She has a special way of making every child feel important. As a teacher, she has the knowledge and talents to help any child be happy and successful. She keeps in touch with many of the kids she’s taught over the last 16 years. She is also an incredible mom. Seeing her with any child makes me smile.”

Beth was adopted when she was a baby. It was a very positive and meaningful experience for her. Growing up, she always knew that she wanted to adopt so that she could share this special gift with others.   She grew up in Denver, Colorado and then came to California to attend Pepperdine University in Malibu. She has been a 2nd grade teacher for the last 16 years. For the last 5 years, she has chosen to work 2 1/2 days a week during the school year to allow her to spend quality time as a stay-at-home mother. It gives her time to get involved in Kylee’s school and work in the classroom on a weekly basis, take Mommy & Me ballet classes, and feed her scrapbook habit. She already has everything ready to make a scrapbook for the new baby.  Beth also loves planning child centered activities for Kylee and her friends. Whether it’s making play dough, putting on a puppet show, or leading games at the park, she’s always making sure the kids have a blast.

Where we live: We live in a perfect family home located on a quiet street in Southern California. It’s in an amazing neighborhood that is very family-oriented. It’s in walking distance to the park, a great children’s store, and Starbucks. It’s also only a few blocks away from an award-winning elementary school. We’ve worked really hard to turn our house into a home and our backyard is the perfect size for our swing set, grass to play games in, and our vegetable garden where we plant everything we need for a salad.  We also have a Jack Russell Terrier named Bella who adores children and enjoys playing with kids. When we have playgroup at our house, Bella makes sure every child is happy!

Being Parents: We LOVE being a Mommy and a Daddy.
When Daddy gets home from work, he is thrilled to see Kylee’s big smile and her arms outstretched ready to be picked up and hugged. Then it’s time to get down on the floor and play hide-and-go-seek or read a good book.
Beth is excited to get up every morning and be a Mommy. Beth and Kylee have so much fun together. Some days are filled with ballet and play dates, while others are filled with trips to the Zoo or children’s museums. They have also enjoyed all the new friends they have made during their weekly play groups.

As a family, we enjoy weekend trips to the beach and participating in community service projects like Shane’s Inspiration where we raised money for children’s play areas.  Two times a year we visit Sunriver, Oregon for some rest and relaxation. We love horseback riding, playing golf, snow skiing, and making snowmen. We especially love to celebrate the holidays starting with tons of decorations and family traditions. We’re the first ones out trick or treating and the last ones to stop hiding the Easter Eggs.

But the times that mean the most to us are the times we are just doing something silly together like cuddling in bed singing farm songs, or building a tent and reading our library books in it.

Extended Family: We also are very fortunate to have a loving and supportive extended family. We spend lots of weekends throughout the year and holidays with family. Holidays are a huge deal in our family and we all like to get together and celebrate in a big way! Sean’s parents live nearby and have been a part of Kylee’s life on a weekly basis. Beth’s parents are also actively involved in Kylee’s life.  They cannot wait for another grandchild to love and cherish.  Uncles, Aunts, Cousins, you name it, they are here! They are all very excited to welcome a new baby into their arms.

Adoption:Kylee came into our lives 3 years ago through the strength of her birth mom, Jennifer.  Not a day goes by where we don’t feel truly blessed by all the joy Kylee adds to our lives. She is a bundle of sunshine and she can’t wait to have a little brother or sister to share life with. In fact, she has the playroom all set-up and has saved all of her favorite toys and books to share with her future brother or sister! With Kylee now 3 years old and the tremendous love in our hearts, we feel it is the ideal time for us to welcome another child into our family. Our dream is to have siblings who love each other and will support each other as they grow older.

In Closing: As you can tell, family is the most important thing in our lives. Besides our deep love of each other and our dream to share that love with children, we value our families above all else. It would be a wonderful and deeply valued gift to share all that love with another child. We can’t wait to enrich our happiness with another precious baby.

Thank you again for taking the time to get to know us better. We look forward to sharing this miracle with you!

♥ Sean, Beth & Kylee Mellick
