Rebeccah and Gary

Dear Birthmother,
Thank you for reading our letter and for considering us as the adoptive parents for your child. We hope the following will give you a glimpse of us, our families and the safe and loving place your child will have in our lives if you choose us. We admire the courageous decision you are making and hope you find in us what you are seeking for your child.

Gary and Rebeccah - How We Became Us
We met when Rebeccah was helping a friend move and we became instant friends. As a matter of fact we were good friends for almost a year before we realized we were actually falling in love. We lived about 45 minutes apart so we spent hours on the phone every night really getting to know each other as well as having our date nights. Finally it was obvious… we knew one of us would have to make a move so Rebeccah pulled up roots and moved. We got engaged a year and nine months after we met and married nine months after that. We went to Kauai and Maui for our honeymoon. It was so beautiful! We went on a helicopter ride, hiked up a volcano and spent lots of time on the beach. We can’t wait to go back!

Our House
We’ve just built our new home in a quiet neighborhood in the suburbs of Los Angeles. The house has three bedrooms and three bathrooms and it even has a guest house so all the grandparents can come and visit at the same time! It has a large grassy backyard with flowers, fruit trees (grapefruit, orange, lemon, guava, fig and even persimmons!), a vegetable garden and lots of room to play. We also have 2 dogs… Bella, Jasper, and an adopted kitty, Tallulah.

Even though we live in Los Angeles, our home is in a small community and it feels more like a small town. It’s near hiking trails, a park with softball fields, playgrounds and there are many other children in our neighborhood. We also have a large extended family nearby with lots of young cousins to play with! One of the best parts of where we live is that it’s so close to Gary’s office and he often comes home for lunch.

About Gary
As a kid I was always taking things apart and fixing them. I would also raid my neighbors’ garbage cans for any discarded electrical items that “needed fixing.” I still love to fix things around the house! I think everyone thought I’d be an electrician or a doctor because if I wasn’t fixing something I was bringing home a wounded animal and nursing it back to health. I didn’t become either but I still get to fix things at home and put the occasional band-aid on Rebeccah.

I was born and raised in Southern California and graduated from USC with a Masters Degree in Business. I have a large close-knit family near by and there are about fifty family members at our home during Christmas dinners. Twenty of them were kids! After all the work Rebeccah and I did building our house it was a wonderful blessing to share our first party with our family.

I’m very active in sports. I play tennis every Saturday with a group of friends from college, love sailing and compete nationally. I love to go mountain biking in the hills around our home and go hiking with Rebeccah and the dogs. One of my favorite pastimes is going to the movies. I watch all kinds of films, from old black and white to modern day thrillers and I was so happy when I got my job working at a large movie studio. I work with the budgets and marketing of films, I’ve been there for over 12 years and still love going to work everyday.

I have a “ seize the day” attitude and have had some great experiences because of it. I’ve ridden an Olympic Bobsled, spent the night at sea on an aircraft carrier and climbed mountains. I hope to instill in your child the spirit of adventure, the importance of following your dreams and a curious spirit. With all these exciting adventures under my belt the most exciting thing in the world is to be a dad and when we decided to adopt I was thrilled! I want to teach your child all the things my dad taught me and most importantly how to be a kind and compassionate person. I know together Becky and I will be great parents. Becky is not only beautiful outside but inside. She is so loving and caring and she always goes the extra mile for her family and friends. Although we could not have children of our own, it has not diminished our desire to be parents and love a child.

About Rebeccah
I have two younger sisters who are my best friends. We are close in age and have a very special bond. My mom and dad are incredibly supportive of everything I do and we always have fun together. They are thrilled at the possibility of being new grandparents again! Their patience and love as parents and partners are an inspiration to me.

Because I was the oldest I got to take care of my sisters after school when I got a little older. Babysitting my sisters gave me the experience I needed as I moved into babysitting for neighbors and then eventually becoming a nanny to a young family. It was a wonderful learning experience and I couldn’t wait to have my own family.

Growing up I loved to be outside doing just about anything. I played softball, tennis, golf and I loved riding my bike. I would ride all over the back country roads of my small southern town with my friends. But I think my favorite thing to do was to have a play in my garage. I would write the play, decorate the set and cast all of my friends in the parts. We would rehearse all day and then invite our parents over to watch after they came home from work. Those days helped me realize that what I wanted for my career was to entertain people and make them laugh. I did lots of plays in high school and after I got my college degree I went to Chicago to study acting and became a full time actor. I then moved to Los Angeles to pursue my dream.

I’ve been fortunate to have success in my field. Luckily, my job allows me many days off and when I work, my job allows me to bring my child with me. It’s the best of both worlds! I look forward to reading my child bedtime stories and acting out all the parts. Helping out at their school, taking them on trips, being their cheerleader on the sidelines at all their games or just being together at home playing a game in front of the fireplace. We look forward to all the joys and responsibilities of being a mom and a dad.

I know Gary will be a great dad. He is so patient and loving. I see him with our friends’ children and he amazes me with his spirit and joyful nature. He’s always the guy out in the yard playing ball or holding a cup at a pretend tea party. Although he works hard to provide a stable and secure life for us he always finds time to have fun and enjoy life! I believe we will make great parents. It is a blessing to have the chance to guide, nurture and love a child throughout their life and I cannot wait to start the journey!

Our Life
We are both very active and we love spending time with our families and friends. We also enjoy traveling, going to art galleries, movies, concerts and of course we love to go to USC football games! We also like quiet times spent outside working in the garden. We grow a lot of our own vegetables and our family and friends really love it when we grill them up right from the garden. We also like hiking with our dogs Jasper and Bella in the nearby canyons, sailing, bike riding and we never miss an opportunity to take out of town visitors to Disneyland or Universal Studios.

We have a lot of fun together but the best thing about us is we share the same values and goals for our life. We both believe in sharing our time and resources with others and participate in a variety of charitable activities. Gary volunteers as a mentor for USC, his alma mater, and as the treasurer of a local homeowners association. He has also worked on special events for The Wildlife Waystation, City of Hope, and Habitat for Humanity.

Rebeccah has worked with The National Entertainment Council For Kids Peace, a national organization dedicated to helping kids and families in crisis, as a co-founder and volunteer and planned several events for them. She’s also worked with STOP an organization that worked to help get runaway kids off the streets. She served several years as a member of The Board of Directors of The Screen Actors Guild and chaired the Women’s Committee for SAG. We are both supporters of The American Cancer Society, The Los Angeles Philharmonic Symphony and are both active in our church through our Small Groups program.

Although our work is very satisfying we know adoption will happily bring a new focus and shift in how our energies will be spent. At the same time, we hope, through our activities, to instill in your child a desire to help others to be involved with a variety of activities from sports to music and charitable works.

There is only one thing we miss in completing our dreams and that is a child. We are godparents, babysitters and caregivers to the children in our lives but we don’t have a child of our own to love. We are committed to providing a healthy, loving, happy, joyful home for your child. We cannot wait to start a family!
