Kim and Dan

Dear Birthmother,
We appreciate you taking the time to read this letter and for the opportunity to share our story with you. We are Dan and Kim and we are honored that you are considering us as adoptive parents for your child. We have so much love to give a child and cannot convey in words how excited we are to have the opportunity to become parents. We wish you the best and trust that no matter what decision you make it will be the right one for you and your child.

Our Story
We first met twelve years ago on a tennis court in Seattle, Washington. At that time, Dan lived in Los Angeles and was visiting his brother and sister in law. We had an instant connection through shared values, goals and interests. We have a loving, strong, fun and committed relationship. In our time together, we have shared many good times and have faced some of life’s challenges that have made us stronger as individuals and as a couple. After dating for six years, we married and relocated to sunny San Diego to be closer to our families as we anticipated starting a family of our own. A set of waiting grandparents live one mile away and three nieces and two aunts and uncles live two and a half hours away. We have a supportive network of friends and family in our community who are very excited to meet the newest addition to our family and wholeheartedly support our decision to adopt.

We have been trying to start a family for some time now and words cannot express our commitment and desire to be parents. Kim recently left her full time position as a child counselor with the school district and is now coaching youth tennis part time so that she can stay at home full time as soon as the baby arrives. It is our dream to provide a nurturing, stable, loving and secure home for a child to grow up in. We cannot wait to hear a little baby’s footsteps, take walks as a family on the beach, hold his or her hand on the way to their first day of school and to start new family traditions. We are prepared for the sleepless nights, first teeth and even the “terrible two’s”.

About Dan
Dan is kind, funny, caring and his zest for life is contagious. Dan is the youngest of three siblings. He continues to be close to both his sister and brother. Dan worked nights at UPS putting himself through college. More recently, he obtained his Masters in Tax from San Diego State University. He is a Senior Tax Manager with a regional accounting firm and particularly enjoys the teaching component of his job. He has also taught classes at the community college level. Dan is patient, thoughtful and understanding. He can not wait to be a dad and will be a dedicated, playful, involved and nurturing father. He loves spending time with friends and family. He is very active and enjoys hiking, biking, traveling, surfing and baseball. Dan can often be found BBQing for friends and family on the weekends.

About Kim
Kim is kind, caring, energetic and determined. She always offers a kind ear when people just need a friend to listen. Kim grew up in the Bay Area, attended college on the East Coast and then earned her Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Washington. Her passion for children led to her becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker specializing in children’s mental health. She has always advocated for the children she has worked with. Kim currently is teaching for Youth Tennis San Diego while waiting to raise our child. She is excited to be a stay at home mom and focus her time and energy on raising your child. I can already see her arranging play dates, reading with our child, teaching him or her to play tennis and attending school activities. Kim’s independence and perseverance will make her a great role model and mother. Kim loves tennis, surfing, biking, traveling and running and cannot wait to include a little one in her adventures.

Our Neighborhood and Community
We live in an active community three blocks from the beach in sunny San Diego. Our neighborhood is family friendly. Children can often be found riding their bikes, heading to the beach to build sandcastles and playing outside. The elementary school and library are nearby. There are many neighborhood festivities, like the annual Christmas parade and family friendly events that we are excited to make family traditions. There are great parks and miles of bike and pedestrian trails a short distance from our home. Kim’s parents live about a mile away and are eager to baby sit. The San Diego Zoo, Seaworld, and Balboa Park are all nearby and we can not wait to explore these destinations with our child. We have already begun to look into playgroups. The nursery is ready to be decorated.

Our Promise
We promise to cherish your child, to always put his or her needs and best interests first and to provide your child with opportunities to develop into his or her own person and pursue his or her own dreams. We will always be there for your child providing nurturance, guidance, strong morals and values and do our best to raise your child to become a happy, kind and caring individual.
