Choose A Family : Parent Profile

Kirsten and Chris

Dear Birthmother,

We want to take this opportunity to share information about us.  We also want you to know that we recognize the magnitude of your decision.  We are parents longing to add a baby to our family and you are striving to make the best decision for you and your child.  Choosing who you feel is best to raise your child must be a very difficult, yet at the same time a purely selfless decision on your part.  As prospective adoptive parents, we are grateful, thrilled, and excited to be considered.

We are Kirsten and Chris, and we would like to share our story with you.  Kirsten was told when she was a teenager that she would never have biological children.  However, one should never say never about one’s fertility because to our surprise and delight we did naturally conceive and birth our daughter, Caitlyn in 2002.  While 3 years of IVF treatment did not result in a pregnancy and confirmed that a future pregnancy was not possible, we have not wavered in our desire to have another child.  We look forward to expanding our family through adoption.

We have been together for more than 6 years and married for five.  We live in a neighborhood full of families with children of all ages.  Last Halloween we ran out of candy after hundreds of pieces were distributed.  We enjoy watching the neighborhood kids play in the streets and catch frogs in the back yard.  We have a four-bedroom house on a large lot.  We are 10 minutes from the beach and about 1 hour from the mountains.  We enjoy biking, leisurely walks, movies and outings to the local amusement/water park.  Our daughter Caitlyn is four years old, and is already more comfortable on roller coasters than Chris, and can ride on rides that spin in circles indefinitely, unlike Kirsten, who gets a little green around the gills after one or two spins.  Caitlyn enjoys going to preschool, swimming and gymnastic classes. She is quite accomplished on the computer enjoying games that reinforce her emerging reading and writing skills.  She also enjoys being a bit of a clown, making people laugh and smile.  She has been asking for a brother or sister for a couple years now.  We live within 15 minutes of Chris’ extended family.  While Kirsten’s family is 9 hours away by car, that does not prevent frequent visits.  Caitlyn is already adept at flying and loves visiting her cousins and grandparents.

Chris—who is the younger of two boys—is a professional graphic designer and has been working at a local advertising agency for nine years where he has worked his way up to a management position. He has been very visual and artistic from early childhood. Although Kirsten is more accomplished in the kitchen, there was a time when he planned on being a chef. Chris is also very interested in music. He taught himself how to play bass guitar when he was in high school and has been playing as a hobby ever since. He also enjoys being outdoors, whether he’s mountain biking, hiking, or playing in the sand (or water, or mud) with Caitlyn.  Chris is a devoted father, always enjoying activities with her including painting, building Lincoln Log houses, putting on puppet shows, playing “kitchen,” making puzzles and more. Chris is looking forward to sharing his love and playful spirit with another child.

Kirsten has one older brother and enjoyed the slot of youngest of twelve grandchildren for 18 years, when she happily gave the job over to three new cousins.  Family has always been the foundation of Kirsten’s life.  She grew up in a family that loves to cook and values the importance of family time.  Dinner was always a fun event where the first person home, often Kirsten, began preparing the meal.  She jokes that for years she knew how to begin many great dishes, if only she knew how to finish them.  Kirsten shares her love for cooking with Caitlyn and would love to have another child to share it with.  Reading is another passion of Kirsten’s; she is known to finish 1-2 books every week, those speed-reading classes she got from her mom really paid off.  Travel is of great interest to Kirsten, one she shares with Chris and Caitlyn.  Kirsten earned a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice and an undergraduate degree in Spanish.  While working as a computer consultant, she worked in Argentina for several months.  Her ability to speak Spanish allowed her to explore Buenes Aires and bargain for local artwork.  While Kirsten is currently an at-home-mom and plans to continue staying at home with the children, she does help out in her mother-in-law’s coffee shop while Caitlyn is at camp or school.  She plans on returning to work after the children are in school full time, but for now enjoys the day-to-day discoveries that only children can unearth.

Thank you taking the time to read about us and for considering us as adoptive parents.  We hope that this brief glimpse into our lives will help you with your decision and assure you of our readiness to open our hearts and home to your child.  We look forward to hearing from you.

Kirsten, Chris and Caitlyn
