Choose A Family : Parent Profile

Joe and Chris

Dear Birthmother,
We appreciate you taking the time to read our letter to get a glimpse of who we are. We can't begin to know how difficult of a decision it is to choose adoption for your child, but we do know this is an act of the greatest love. We can imagine you are looking for a family to raise your child that will love and cherish them as much as you do, and that can offer your child the things you want for him or her in life. As you get to know us here we hope you find we are the family you are looking for. Your child will always know the love and courage you had for him/her in choosing adoption, and we will always be grateful to you as well for giving us the opportunity to be parents.

A snapshot of our lives
We are a fun loving couple that can’t wait to become a fun loving family. We enjoy every day to the fullest, whether we are just staying home and cooking dinner together or visiting family and friends in Europe. We both have wanted a family for a very long time, and we are looking forward to the next chapter in our lives… Parenthood!

By Chris:
I specialize in cooking Italian food while Joe, who prefers to eat, is quite the clean up guy. Joe's only complaint is that I use too much garlic. (Is there such a thing?) We love to travel whether it is going to the family's vacation home in the North Woods of Wisconsin, enjoying sun-filled adventures in Hawaii, visiting friends and family in Europe, or anywhere in between. We especially like to explore little places the off beaten path. We will hike for hours to find the perfect spot. As kids both of our families had a sense of adventure on our family vacations. We cannot wait to have your child experience the same sense of adventure, and we can’t wait to add Disney to our travel plans! Not only is travel fun and relaxing, but we believe it makes the world a smaller place when you’ve actually been to the places you might see on the evening news.

By Joe:
We are extremely close to both our families. We enjoy traveling together, hosting big Italian family dinners and goofing around with our nieces and nephews. Chris is always goofing around with the kids as he is the biggest one of them all! They have been a huge support to us as we have begun the adoption process, and offer us their love and encouragement every step of the way.

We enjoy all the seasons Chicago has to offer. Winter is the time we will be huddled .around our fireplace or perhaps watching movies with big bowls of popcorn. Come Spring we start planting our garden and spend as much time as possible soaking up the sunshine. We enjoy the beach and picnics with family and friends in the summer. The crisp fall days are perfect for drives through the country to see nature's display of color.

Introducing Joe
I am the youngest of three, born and raised in Ohio in an Irish family. My mom and dad were happily married for 51 years until my mom’s recent passing. In the summer of 1995 I moved to Chicago. Although it was a difficult decision to leave my family I could not pass up a great career opportunity. I am very close to my family; distance has not kept us apart.

With the support of my parents I excelled in academics, work and sports up through my college years. I was fortunate that my parents provided me with a private, quality education. They valued education and passed their love of learning to me. Even now I’m an avid reader of both fiction and nonfiction, and enjoy learning through hobbies and other interests. We look forward to providing a solid education to our child/children, and encouraging a love of learning in them.

In my professional life I am a client services director in the financial industry, which allows me to have the flexibility to work from home. In addition, I am a certified personal trainer. I am passionate about health and fitness. I have a passion for photography - I carry my camera everywhere! I know I’ll be one of those dads’ that is always taking pictures of every event and every little thing that happens. I would love to share those photos with you. While there is such a thing as too much garlic (sorry Chris!) there is never such a thing as having too many pictures!

About Chris, by Chris
I was born in Chicago to a large, close knit, extended Italian family. I am the second of four kids. My mom and dad are happily married and still live in the same home that I grew up in. I lived in California for five years but returned to the Windy City to be closer to my family. My parents are only ten minutes away and we see them, and my siblings, as much as possible. Your child will have a large and loving family that already can’t wait to meet them!

I love living in Chicago, and we plan on raising our children here. In Chicago I can indulge in my favorite activities, especially outdoor fitness opportunities like riding bikes on the lakefront, hiking just outside the city, and then coming home and entertaining family and friends. Any weekend spent outdoors is a good one for me, but when it’s rainy or cold I like to spend the day reading anything political, science fiction or studying history.

My parents worked hard to send all of their children to Catholic schools from kindergarten through high school. Thanks to their example, Joe I are committed to providing a quality education for your child. In today's world we realize an education is the best way to achieve one's dreams.

I currently hold the title for the 'World's Best Uncle' to my seven nieces and nephews. There seems to be a family gathering just about every weekend with such a big family! Birthdays are a big deal in my family. I have too many cousins to count - rest assured your child will have tons of cousins to grow and play with from day one.

In my professional life I am an IT director in a large educational institution. I’m fortunate to have a flexible schedule at work, and l look forward to really participating in our child’s life.

Our Home
We own a bright, spacious Home in downtown Chicago that we share with our very social cat, Kitty. Our historic home is situated in a family oriented community with some of the nation's top public and private schools. Our home has tons of room for a child to run, grow and play. The great room is the place where we gather at the end of the day to eat, relax in front of the fire, unwind, talk to one another, read a book or watch a movie.

We live a mile from Lake Michigan with all its wonderful beaches, parks, zoos and museums. Chicago's beautiful lakefront is our backyard. We walk everywhere whether it is to local restaurants, the Chicago Shedd Aquarium, Navy Pier, Chicago Children's museum, the beaches and all the other lakefront attractions. We have a community pool down the street and a neighborhood park just two blocks away. We will ensure that your child will experience Chicago's rich cultural heritage and diversity, and all the wonderful things this great city has to offer.

Thank you
Thank you for your consideration. We know you have the decision of a lifetime ahead of you, and hope that you are reassured by learning a little about us that we will love and care for your child.

We will strive to be excellent role models; we will show him/her what it means to be a good person, to be kind and forgiving when necessary. We will pick them up when they fall, teach them to learn from their experiences and provide guidance. Their life will be filled with fun and every day will bring a new adventure!

Above all your child will know that he/she is loved unconditionally, just as we were as children. We will dedicate our lives to ensure your child will grow up confident, happy, compassionate, fun loving, well learned and most of all, always knowing about the love you have for him/her, and the sacrifice you made for him/her.
