Choose A Family : Parent Profile

Catherine

Dear Birthmother,
First let me begin by telling you what an amazing and courageous person I think you are.
I know you are probably overwhelmed by the selection of potential adoptive parents for your baby and I truly appreciate that you are considering me.

Why I want to adopt...
An adopted child is blessed with two mothers who both show an enormous act of love; one by choosing adoption for her child and one for becoming a forever family for that child. I don’t ever remember a time when I didn’t want to be a mom. Although I haven’t met the man of my dreams yet, I have always known that I wanted to have my life surrounded by children; whether as an aunt, godmother, a friend or as a mom. I embrace the fact that I have surrounded myself with a wonderfully supportive circle of family and friends. I know that the tasks I now consider ordinary will take on a whole new meaning. But with these changes will come a lifetime of new experiences, memories and challenges that I look forward to.

About Me
My name is Cathy. I am a well grounded and happy individual. I am a college graduate with a business degree. My family and friends describe me as loyal, loving, compassionate, fun, and above all, family oriented. Honesty, kindness, generosity, courage and a “can do” attitude are values that I have learned from my parents and will teach to your child. My interests are diverse and I hope to share them with your child one day. Just a few of my favorite pastimes are cooking especially holiday dinners and tailgate entrees during football season, reading, music, movies and of course, shopping!

I also enjoy being with and meeting new people, many whom I now consider to be my close friends and extended family. I am an avid sports fan and enjoy catching a Boston Red Sox or New England Patriots game whether on TV or being at the games. Some of my fondest memories were watching the Red Sox games with my grandfather, uncles and brother after Sunday dinners where I fell in love with the game of baseball. I also enjoy creating handmade gifts such as candle holders, character blankets to most recently, a “Thomas the Tank” toy box for my nephew, Ethan.

My Home...
I live in Taunton, Massachusetts which is located just minutes from the sea shores of Cape Cod, and “America’s Hometown”, Plymouth. Just 30 miles to the north is Boston, and 15 miles to the south is Providence, RI. I live in a 5 bedroom, Cape-style house which my mom and I have recently renovated together. I have a large fenced in back yard with plenty of trees for building forts or swinging from, ideal for kids to play in. Living in New England, we enjoy all 4 seasons. The winter months offer fun activities such as building snowmen, sledding and skiing. When the warmer seasons arrive we enjoy going to the beach, attending cookouts, boating and canoeing to name just a few.

My Family...
I am the middle child of three. I come from a close knit family who is eagerly awaiting a new addition. I have an 8 yr old Golden Retriever named Casey. She is a true part of my family. She is gentle, friendly, very active and can’t wait to have a “sister or brother” to run and play catch with her! My parents Joe and Rosalie were married for 38 years. Sadly, my father is no longer with us, but he certainly continues to watch over me and I know he is very pleased that I will be creating a family through adoption. My mother is a retired nurse and a devoted grandmother. My brother Jim and wife Michelle live close by in Marshfield MA, a small seacoast community with their children, Lauren who is seven and Joshua who is four. My sister Juli and husband Paul live in Rochester, New Hampshire, just minutes from the White Mountains of NH with their two children, Courtney who is 13 and Ethan who is 2. Not only do we get together for special holidays and events but socially as well. “Auntie Kiki”, as I’m known, is a nickname given to me by my first niece Courtney and has carried on with my other nieces and nephews as well as my best friends children, Victoria, who is 5 and Jake who is 3. I’ve become the “favorite aunt” and the kids are always looking forward to the time they can spend with me. I also look forward to cheering them on at the many activities they are part of such as baseball, softball, soccer, dance recitals, ice skating recitals, gymnastics, and chorus and school band concerts.

My Friends...
My friends are part of my family and I spent a lot of time with them and their children. Some I have known for many years and others just a few. I have long term friendships going back to my elementary school days. When I consider someone a friend, to me that is different from being friendly with someone. I consider myself a good friend to people and expect and get the same in return. My friends are male and female, married and single. I am confident they will all be excellent role models for my child. When we get together we BBQ, shop, go to the movies or just hang out. We are a little competitive when it comes to cooking and our favorite sports teams!

Vacations and Holidays...
I have had to opportunity to travel and experience many different places over the years such as Hawaii, California, Florida, New York, Aruba, Mexico and the Cayman Islands. Trips to Walt Disney World has become an annual tradition for the past several years. I have purchased time share at Disney and my hopes are to share the joy I had as a child with my own child. Some of my fondest memories were going to Disney with my family.
I look forward to all the holidays from Valentines Day to Christmas. I love to decorate both inside and outside for each holiday and season. Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving are spent with family. We take turns hosting different holidays at our homes. As a Christmas tradition for example, I play one of Santa’s elves and call each niece and nephew on Christmas Eve day to let them know that Santa will be sure to be there on Christmas Eve when they are fast asleep. At Easter, I am in charge of hiding the eggs for the kids Easter Egg hunt.

Becoming a mom would be a dream come true. I look forward to all the firsts. First smile, first steps, from first day of kindergarten to the first day of college. I give you my heartfelt promise that your child will always have a comfortable and nurturing home environment, a loving extended family of grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends and that your child will be encouraged to follow his or her own dreams and to always know that life is full of endless possibilities.

Thank you for considering me as a potential parent to your baby. Whatever your decision, I wish you well and pray for your baby’s safe arrival.

Sincerely,

Cathy
