Jamie & Rich

Dear Birth Mother,
We realize this is a difficult decision for you, one made with love, courage and strength. While this is just a small glimpse of our life, we hope you can tell that we have a lot of love to give and we would treasure the opportunity to be the future loving parents for your child.

We are Rich, Jamie and Colten. We are truly honored that you are considering us as the adoptive family for your child. We promise to provide a home filled with peace, love and laughter.  We promise to give your child all the opportunities that we think every child should have and we look forward to sharing our love, our friends/families and life with our new baby.

About Us
We have known each other for over 12 years ago, both working in the same industry. We socialized and hung out in the same groups of people. It wasn’t until both of us were unattached, that we realized we had a connection. We had so much in common: love of sports, travel, food and family. In September 2004, we were married at a poolside affair and in April 2005 we were blessed with the birth of our son, Colten.

We always knew we wanted more children and adoption has always been a committed option for us. We discussed fertility options, and both firmly agreed adoption is our primary choice to expand our family.

We are an active family. We all enjoy sports, both watching and participating. Jamie’s family have been SF Niners fans since the early 70’s (no fair weather fans here). Switching Rich to the other side of the tracks was no easy task. We spend many summer days at the Giants and A’s games. Colten loves the train ride to the stadium and the cotton candy. We are fortunate to belong to a great tennis, swim and golf club close to our home. The club is family oriented and offers lots of activities for children of all ages. During the warm summer months the three of us spend evenings playing tennis and putting on the golf course.

We spend two weeks a year vacationing with our good friends Dan, Kara and Devin (who is also three years old). One of these weeks is always spent in Lake Tahoe. We are fortunate to own a time share right near the lake. They have so many wonderful activities for kids. We always bring our bikes with us and spend time swimming and building sand castles at the beach. We are anxiously awaiting the big Disneyland trip (I think Rich is the most excited about it) next year.

Jamie about Rich
Rich was raised in Northern California and has one brother and two sisters. He is the youngest of four children and was raised by a great family who gave him the confidence to do what ever he wanted. He is generous and outgoing, always eager to help others. Rich’s family is one of the most loving, close, goofy crazy families I know. They are fun to be around and eagerly open their hearts and homes to others (neighbors, friends, etc).

Rich works for a specialty chocolate company in the Bay Area. His job enables him to travel to some great places (annually to Switzerland), but also allows him much flexibility to work from home. He is passionate about what he does and the people who work for him. Rich has spent the last four years volunteering and running an annual charity golf tournament for the Boys and Girls club. It is an event he takes pride in hosting and is always looking for new ideas to increase the donations to the club.

Rich’s passions include family, golf, tennis and probably food. He has been an avid runner for many years (probably because he likes food). In November 2005 he successfully completed the New York Marathon! He had a great group of supporters with him (Colten, both his sisters, niece Kaitlyn, my sister, and I). He spent 16 weeks training for the race (with Colten’s help in the stroller). We were all very proud of him. Rich plays tennis most Saturday mornings with three other guys. Colten and I are usually there to cheer him on. During the winter months, we get to the snow several times and try to fit some skiing in while there.

I think if you were to ask Rich what his biggest joy has been in his life – he would say being a dad. Before we had Colten, I would see him with his nephews, niece and our friends’ kids; I always knew he would be a good dad……..but I never knew he would be a GREAT dad! He is very hands-on, whatever it is - changing diapers, midnight feedings, playing soccer or catch in the backyard, or just reading stories – there is nothing he won’t do. I am so grateful to have such a wonderful husband and Colten such a loving father.

Rich about Jamie
First let me start by saying Jamie is not only my loving wife but my best friend. I can tell her anything and she is there to support me. I love her with all my heart. Jamie was born in Northern California and has one brother and one sister. Jamie’s brother, Paul, was adopted at an early age (2 ½ years) and now has a loving family of his own. Jamie’s family is fun to hang out with, never a dull moment. Her mom comes over every Monday to spend time with Colten.

Jamie works from home for a hair accessories company, which is great because she loves to take our son to school and pick him up to see his smiling face. Jamie also teaches aerobics which is one of her passions (to workout and be healthy). She is training for her first half marathon. I can’t wait to cheer her on.

I would describe my wife as spunky, outgoing, friendly and someone who would do anything for anybody. If a family or a friend asks for a favor she never questions why she just says “how can I help?”. Jamie is a planner and loves to plan events for the family to have fun, from going on a bike ride, to the zoo or just a simple picnic so we can spend quality family time together. Jamie’s other passion is baking! Our son wakes up every morning asking for one of her home made banana nut muffins. Every holiday she is baking up something new to give to all of our friends and neighbors. Jamie makes a point of eating as a family. We all eat dinner together at the table every night and talk about our day.

We love every minute with our son and I know my wife is also looking forward to when he is a little older so she can walk him to school, help him with his school projects, after school activities and just be there when he needs a helping hand.

Colten and I are blessed to have such a beautiful loving mother & wife.

About Colten
Colten is three years old. He is so full of love and life! He loves trucks, trains, Spiderman and our two cats – Wink (she has one eye) and Flash. He loves going to the park, playing soccer, riding his tricycle and visiting the fire station in our neighborhood.

Since he was a baby, he has always been around lots of family and friends, so he is very outgoing and social.

He has been in the same preschool for the past year. He loves it! We love that he can continue there with the same set of teachers until he enters elementary school. We also love that the school encourages parent participation and involvement.

He is a kind and happy boy. He seems to understand about brothers and sisters and is anxious to share his toys. We know he will be a generous and caring older brother to his sibling.

Our Home
We live in a beautiful home in Northern California. It is child oriented, comfortable with plenty of space. Our back yard is huge, with lots of lawn and a large play structure. We have a swimming pool that we use most of the year. Our neighbors are great, many with small children with whom we have play dates. There are plenty of parks, recreation centers and family activities in the area. The schools are the best around. We are fortunate to be located between mountains and beaches. We have many close friends and spend time with them barbequing, swimming and hanging out.

Our Family and Friends
Our friends and family are a big part of our lives. The mixing of the two families was as easy and natural as our relationship. We have so much fun together and always laugh till our bellies hurt.

In our immediate family, we have two grandmas, one step-grandma, and one grandad (Rich’s father is deceased), five aunts and four uncles, and seven cousins, who are all excited to spoil a new family member.  We are fortunate that everyone lives within 45 minutes of us, so we see and visit them often.

We will ensure that your child will know what it's like to be in a loving family and experience the strength and support that a strong family offers. We firmly believe that there are many ways to create a family, all equally wonderful.   We will love the child who enters our family through adoption every bit as much as we love our biological child.

In Closing
We cannot express how excited we are to welcome your child into our family. We can offer your child a very strong foundation for a life of unlimited potential, unconditional love, financial security, education, strong moral values and a true appreciation for life. We will raise your child with love, stability and positive guidance. We will nurture and encourage them to discover who they are and become the best they can be.

We believe strongly in education and will encourage your child to develop a passion and excitement for learning.

We are excited at the possibility of adding to our family. We hope you will want to get to know us in person, and that we will have an opportunity to get to know you. We understand that this will probably be the biggest decision of your life. We wish you the strength and heart to make the decision you feel is best.
