Choose A Family : Parent Profile
Julie
Dear Birth Mother,
Thank you for taking the time to read my letter. My name is Julie and I’m thrilled beyond words as I begin my journey toward adopting a child. After numerous attempts to become pregnant on my own, I am now committed to building my family through adoption.
I so admire your courage and selflessness in choosing adoption for your baby. If you choose me, I promise you that I will provide your child with all the love in my heart and all the support in my means.

Background/Family
I live in the wonderful city of Chicago, Illinois in a quaint and quiet neighborhood on the north side of the city. One of the things I love most about this area is that even though I’m in the heart of a large U.S. city, the neighborhood is extremely family friendly. My church and elementary school are located across the street from my condo, and there are at least three playgrounds on neighboring blocks. My home is less than one mile from Lincoln Park Zoo, an attraction that has always been a favorite for my family and me.
When I’m not in the city, I enjoy spending time with family at our small family lake house in Wisconsin. It is such a nice spot for kids, with tons of outdoor activities… swimming, boating, golf and much more.
I am the youngest of five children (three brothers and one sister). I’m fortunate to be from a very close and loving family. My mother and my siblings live in the surrounding Chicago area. My father passed away in 2006 and while I miss him every single day, I feel blessed that we had a chance to discuss my plans to be a mom. He was very encouraging and shared in my excitement. My family in the Chicago area includes my mom, my siblings and their spouses, fourteen nieces and nephews, four sets of aunts and uncles and too many cousins to count. Get-togethers are frequent, and filled with lots of fun and laughter.

I am honored to be a godmother to two nieces, a nephew, and to two of my best friends’ children.
I believe that from my upbringing I learned the greatest lessons in parenting: unconditional love and support, an open heart and mind at all times, and the commitment to always keeping the child’s best interests my top priority.
Education/Career
I graduated from The University of Iowa with degrees in Marketing and English. After graduating, I immediately began a career in sales, working with a large commercial printing company, where I remain employed today. I work with a wonderful group of people whom I’ve known now for many years. I’m fortunate that I have a great deal of flexibility in my hours, and can often work from home. I plan to take full advantage of this flexibility as a new mom!
I hope to instill in my child a similar love for knowledge and education. I look forward to some of the simplest pleasures like reading together, helping him or her with homework, visiting Chicago’s many museums, and discussing dreams and hopes for the future.

Interests/Hobbies
I have various interests including reading, cooking, gardening, traveling, and sports (both as a participant and spectator).
As a child, I was lucky enough to have a stay at home mom. She and I made weekly trips to visit my grandmother. My grandma taught me the fundamentals of baking, sewing, and gardening. More than teaching me the domestic basics, I learned from them a wonderful shared respect between mother and child.
I do enjoy travel, and have visited numerous cities in the United States, Europe and Asia. I suppose my favorite was a recent trip to Ireland with my mom and my sister after my Father passed away. We went to the birthplace of my paternal grandparents, visited wonderful cities including Dublin, Shannon, and Belfast. I look forward to sharing these travel experiences with my child and planning new journeys together.
Because I work in the printing industry and I love to read, books are a favorite past time. I collect them and read them as often as possible. I’ve begun a collection of my favorite children’s books and plan to make “story time” a daily practice as a new mom.
Last but not least, I am a bit of a sports nut. I guess that’s what happens growing up with three brothers and a dad who were sports lovers. I’ve completed a few marathons, love to snow ski, and really love to cheer for Chicago sports teams, in particular the Cubs and Bears!

Friends
In addition to a close family, thankfully I have wonderful friends who are a big part of my life. Most live nearby, some not as close (L.A. and NY), and almost all have children. They’re a tremendous source of support to me and they are all very excited about me adopting a child. Between my nieces, nephews, and my friends’ children I look forward to many, many play dates.
I hope this gives you at least an initial introduction to me and my life. I’m happy to provide additional information or answer any questions you may have.
Most of all thank you again for considering me in selecting an adoptive family for your child. I wish you the best in your decision and hope to meet you soon!
