Choose A Family : Parent Profile
Darcy
Dear Birth Mother,
First of all I want to thank you for making this decision for your baby and considering me as an adoptive mom. I know this is a difficult time in your life. In order to help you make this decision and get to know me better, I invite you to step into my life:
About Me
My name is Darcy and, ever since high school, I have known that adoption would be part of my life. Having been a teacher for ten years, I have worked with numerous adopted children. Coming from a science education background, the love of nature and animals has been an important part of my life. Having worked with a variety of cultures and ethnicities, I am very open-minded and accepting of others. I feel that I am very young at heart...volunteering in my community, traveling, and spending time enjoying the beautiful central coast where I live. I love to make cards with my girlfriends, scrapbook with my mom, work in the yard, snorkel, take walks, hike, sail, take photographs, and last but not least...I love to read. I also love to travel and have been to Costa Rica several times and to various places in Mexico numerous times.

Hands-On Experience
I’m not letting the lack of a “Mr. Right” stop me from my dream of being a parent. Although I have “parented” hundreds of children through my job, it’s not the same as having a child of my own to love. I have had a wonderful experience of learning to parent. My previous boyfriend of 4½ years had a daughter who he was responsible for part time. She helped me learn parenting skills from age 1½ until 6. What an experience it was! We fingerpainted, went to the library, drew creatures with chalk on the patio, learned to ride a bike, made sand castles at the beach, had picnics at the park, as well as many other activities.
Family, Family, Family
My parents are very supportive and live close by. They are thrilled with the idea of my adopting. They live an active and healthy lifestyle, spending several months each year living on their sailboat in the Sea of Cortez in Mexico. When at home, they live on 1½ acres filled with a variety of plants from all over the world. Dad enjoys hiking,
camping, fishing, and caring for his vast selection of rare plants. Mom likes to read, scrapbook with me, go to the gym, and take walks with her dog. As a kid growing up, the whole family participated in 4-H. I raised a couple of pigs, a steer, and lots of lambs. My parents were leaders for different groups in the club. I was a junior leader and also club president. I have also shown my horses both in 4-H and in outside horse shows.

(Wo)man's Best Friend
I adopted my dog, Kalea, from the pound. I knew as soon as I saw her that she was the dog for me. She loves to join me on walks throughout the neighborhood or at the beach. She never runs out of energy! Last year I entered her in the Nuts for Mutts Dog Show (a fund raiser for animal rescue) where she made the finals in the category “Best Eyes”. We had a blast, and it was for a good cause.

Home Sweet Home
My home is wonderful...I love it! It has three bedrooms and a lovely fenced backyard with fruit trees and a small vegetable garden. I enjoy the simple pleasures of being at home and reading or gardening. The neighborhood is great for many reasons: it is within walking distance to a great elementary school, it is very safe, there are no through streets so the kids are safe to ride their bikes and play, neighbors care for one another and are friends. There are block parties several times a year which include the entire family.
Teaching, Inspiring, Caring
Teaching has provided me with a solid income, security, and great benefits, as well as enabling me to spend time with kids...something that I love! I feel that dealing with kids on a daily basis has helped prepare me for parenthood. This year I even worked after school with a group of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders. Being a junior high teacher of preteens and teenagers, I feel that it is extremely important for me to be a good role model. It is a great age to inspire them to be a good person and respect themselves and the world around them. Having all holidays, summers and weekends off enables us to take short trips to nearby beaches, the snow, Disneyland, Sea World, or longer trips to visit extended family or see other parts of the country or the world. Being an educator for numerous years has given me a “bank” of sick days so that I can take off as necessary, as well as being allowed “maternity” leave upon the birth of the baby. Staff is wonderful as far as covering classes when someone needs emergency coverage.

Friends = Support
Teaching has allowed me to make many friends who are also teachers or wives of teachers. A number of them belong to the book club we started last year. Several of us get together regularly to make cards or hike. Most of my friends either already have children or are
currently expecting. All of my friends have been wonderful in supporting me with the adoption process. They can hardly wait to schedule play dates. : )
Thanks again for considering me. I will love and cherish your baby and would be honored if you choose me.
