Dear Birth Mother:
We are Cecily and Brian and we want to thank you for reading our letter and getting to know us. We admire your generous spirit more than you can know. We believe that fate brought us together as a couple and have faith that our family will be built the same way. We want you to know that should you choose us, we will love and nurture your child and make him or her the center of our lives.
About Us
We first met in graduate school in the early nineties but only found out about our mutual crush much later. Thanks to some friendly intervention, we started dating and after two years were married. We live in a 1925 “English” cottage that we renovated in a suburb of Los Angeles with the silliest cat in the hemisphere, Thomas the K.T. Kitster, found crossing the street at rush hour at the tender age of three weeks.
Cecily grew up on the East Coast and went to Columbia University where she was a Russian major and also studied dance and theater. After college she moved to the west coast to go to USC Film School and went on to work in the entertainment industry. Four years ago, Cecily decided to transition to teaching at a local film school to allow a flexible schedule that would be more family friendly. She loves doing yoga, hiking and values a healthy lifestyle.
Brian was raised in Santa Barbara and got his undergraduate college degree in computer science at U.C. Berkeley and his graduate degree at USC Film School. As a kid, he loved computers and he now works as a software designer for the entertainment division of a cell phone company. Brian is also a dedicated long distance runner who actually enjoys running marathons. He also loves to play the guitar, especially bad songs from the 80’s.
We love canoeing, sea kayaking, the movies and traveling to see wild animals. We also enjoy barbecuing in the backyard, walks around our neighborhood and making french toast on Sunday mornings.
Our Neighborhood
We live in sunny southern California and our neighborhood is full of young families. There are big trees and a gorgeous park with a playground two blocks away. Our house is full of sunlight and we have a yard with a walnut tree that is perfect for a swing. We are minutes from a world class swim center, a kids museum and hiking in the mountains. The beach is a short 40 minute drive away and Disneyland is not much farther!
Lifestyle and Family
We also love to travel and are lucky to have two family getaways – a beach house in North Carolina that Cecily’s grandfather built, and a farm in New Hampshire that’s been in Brian’s family since the 1800’s.Our yearly family get- togethers at those places have given us each many happy memories and we hope to build more with our own child. Whether its playing in the ocean off of North Carolina or biking the hills of New Hampshire, everything is more fun with our family.
Our extended family already includes children who were adopted and it is with open arms and hearts that the family anticipates the arrival of its newest member. There is so much love waiting from us and from the most doting and energetic grandmas we know. Brian's parents, cousins, and their kids live in the area, minutes from the beach and the zoo.
Our Hopes and Dreams
We have always dreamed of being parents and feel so lucky to have found a partner who we love and respect to share that experience. We both play the piano and want to raise our child in a house that is creative, warm and accepting. We are ready for kid chaos especially if it involves crayons, stuffed animals and off-key singing.
We plan to parent equally and have created a lifestyle where we have flexible careers with that goal in mind. Our siblings who have equally shared the parenting of their children are our role models.
We love being aunt and uncle to our nieces and nephews but are ready to make a child the center of our lives. We hope we've been able to give you a glimpse of ourselves.
