Dear Birth Mother,
Thank you so much for taking the time to read our letter. You may not know this, but we are thinking about you right now, and can only imagine that deciding to place your child for adoption is amazingly tough for you. We truly admire your strength and courage, to make such a selfless, compassionate decision. Thank you for the opportunity to introduce ourselves and for considering us as your child’s potential adoptive parents.
About Us
We are Mark and Zenobia, and though a brief letter cannot tell you everything about us, we hope to provide you with some insight into who we are and what we stand for. We have a passion for life, our family and friends, and each other.
We have been together for six years (married for three) and from early on in our relationship, we talked about our desire to have a family and what our families mean to us. We both come from loving, happy homes, and have a strong desire to be parents. When we learned that we are unable to conceive on our own, adoption was a clear and immediate option, as we have experienced it within our extended families and know how wonderful it can be.
Raising a child is an awesome responsibility, and one we take very seriously. We want you to know that your child will grow up in a loving home with a supportive family, and guidance to purse whatever academic, athletic, artistic or inspirational dreams they may choose.
About Mark (from Zenobia)
Mark has so many wonderful qualities that make him a special person, wonderful husband and soon to be great father. He is a true Southern gentleman - kind, courteous, patient, and charming.
I was first attracted to Mark’s intelligence and quick wit, and quickly came to see that those qualities are also supported by a passion for everything he does, a great ability to lead others, and a strong dedication and love for family. Mark easily makes me laugh, and has a great ability to see the positive in every situation. He is a fantastic listener and communicator.
Mark has always believed in the value of learning and education having completed his MBA from the University of Pennsylvania. As an adult Mark has worked in his local community to give back some of that learning and pass it on to others.
Mark has a strong work ethic that has helped him excel in his career and accomplish big goals quickly. He is now the GM and VP of a software division for a large technology company. Mark is an avid runner competing in 5-10 races a year and also has organized charity 10Ks and other events. He enjoys sports (especially football); technology and computers (and other gadgets), home improvement projects, everything about cars, reading, and photography.
About Zenobia (from Mark)
Zenobia is a once in a lifetime kind of special person with a great joy for life, deep love for family and friends and the kindest heart I’ve ever known. Zenobia is the kind of person everyone loves spending time with and she lights up any room when she enters. Zenobia is incredibly smart, funny, creative, and passionate. Zenobia makes hard things in all areas of our lives seem easy, whether it be becoming an expert ballet dancer, learning to speak Spanish, or starting her own home-based business.
Zenobia is also a great teacher and nurturer; I have watched her over the 6 years we have known each other help her friends, family, kids and all sorts dogs and other animals. I know without any doubts that Zenobia will be a wonderful mother and a great partner for me as we raise a child. She is looking forward to being a full time mom.
Zenobia has also always believed in the value of learning and education having completed her undergraduate degree in Economics from Stanford. Zenobia has mentored high school kids helping them prepare to apply to college.
Zenobia is a classically trained dancer who danced throughout school and then professionally for a short time before retiring to a “real job”. She continues to take dance lessons, as well as pilates and yoga, and has taught children’s dance classes. She also enjoys cooking and baking, and is always appointed as the cake designer for parties and showers.
Spending Time Together
We share a great enthusiasm for life, and a mutual respect and love for one another and our family and friends. We enjoy traveling in the US and internationally, spending time with our yellow lab puppy Bear, going to the beach, going to sporting events and entertaining friends and family. We like to try new things and activities together, like whitewater rafting, cooking, photography classes, 5K runs, and snow skiing.
Our Home
We are blessed with a beautiful home in a great nieghborhood, a short walking distance from 3 parks, with a neighborhood full of children and a great school system. Our 2 story home is spacious with plenty of room to grow. We have a nice big fenced back yard on a quiet cul-de-sac, in a wonderful, family oriented neighborhood. With the great weather here, we enjoy taking daily walks with our little yellow lab puppy Bear, who loves to greet all the other dogs and children we meet on the way.
Our neighborhood has a pond with ducks and fish, a community swimming pool, basketball and tennis courts, all within a short walking distance from our home. Our neighborhood often hosts street parties and barbeques on our street, a Halloween parade for children, monthly play-dates for kids, and many other activities.
Our Friends and Family
Mark’s mom and dad have been married for 38 years, and his family all live on the East Coast (from Maryland to Florida), so we see them often. Zenobia comes from a large extended family, with adoptions on both sides of the family. Zenobia’s parents have been married 33 years and she has 20 first cousins! Zenobia’s family lives all over the world, mostly in California, but also in Canada, Europe, Asia and Australia. We joke that wherever we travel, we have family to stay with! We see Zenobia’s family quite often, as we travel to California numerous times a year, and her extended family from all over the world comes to visit and stay with us. We always look forward to spending the holidays with our families, either close to home with Mark’s family or in California with Zenobia’s parents, brother, cousins, aunts and uncles.
We both grew up in loving homes, with close families and happily married parents, which drives our core values. We will offer unconditional love, laughter and stability to your child, and cherish them. Family life will be full of doting grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins, friends, and animals. It will be forgiving, encouraging, and supportive of whatever path your child chooses to purse in life. We place a high importance on education, as did our parents, and we want to provide as many opportunities as we can to see the world and have a myriad of experiences to help shape their path.
We know this is one of the hardest decisions you will ever have to make. We hope that in this short letter we have been able to provide you with a glimpse of ourselves, in an effort to help you choose the family that is right for you. Thank you for your time.
