Choose A Family : Parent Profile
Mary
Dear Birthmother,
To begin, I want to thank you for taking the time to learn a little bit about me, my life and my family. My name is Mary and I am truly honored that you are considering me to be your child’s adoptive. I understand how difficult this decision must be and I want you to know that I greatly admire your strength and courage in choosing adoption. Please know that whatever decision you make, whether you decide to trust me or another parent with the honor of raising your child, it will be the right choice for you and your child because it will be a decision made entirely out of love.

Although I now live in Southern California, I was born and raised in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan, the youngest of four and only girl (yes, I suppose I was/am spoiled). My father was an engineer for Ford Motor Company (now retired), my mother worked for the Department of the Army starting as clerk when she was just out of high school and working her way up to purchasing agent, which is the position she held when she retired. My parents are both 1 of 11 children; so needless to say, my extended family is rather large (huge actually).
The Boys: Greg is my oldest brother and lives in Seattle with his wife Sandra and their two boys Daniel (10) and Keisy (2); Jeff and his partner Ray live about a half a mile from me and are frequent dinner guests; Joe the youngest of the boys and his wife Hiromi live in Phoenix just a few miles from my parents along with their three children Meiti (15), Jeinie (13) and Trey (11). We’re a pretty diverse family, Sandra is from Brazil, and Hiromi is from Japan. All five of my nieces and nephews are bilingual (well, Keisy is only 2 and just started talking, but he’ll eventually speak both English and Portuguese), I am as well, and I speak Japanese and enough German to get around. We are all well traveled thanks to my father’s job; we’ve lived in Japan and Germany, and had the good fortune to travel extensively in Asia and Europe.

We are a very close-knit family and spend every Christmas at my parent’s home in Phoenix, it’s a week of fun and games and a time I look forward to all year long. I love spending time with my family, catching up on everyone’s adventures and seeing how my nieces and nephews have grown into the incredible individuals they are. Greg and Joe bring their families to California at least twice a year, and Jeff, Ray and I generally join them for a day at Disneyland, Universal Studios, or just exploring the splendor of sunny Southern California, which generally includes a trip to the mall with the girls. Spending time with family has always been an important aspect of my life, a value instilled in me by my parents. Some of my earliest memories revolve around family trips to Kentucky (my mothers birthplace) to attend family reunions, and visit our grandparents, aunts and uncles and scores of cousins. We still have family reunions every fall, and have on a number of occasions gotten t-shirts, as is evidence in some of the photos. Going back to Kentucky always reminds me of the value of family and makes me feel like a kid again.
I’ve worked for the federal government for over 12 years as an investigator. I love my job, and feel privileged to have the opportunity to serve. My job offers diversity, flexibility and excellent benefits including only being 3 miles from my home! I’ve developed an incredible network of friends and colleagues with whom I enjoy very close relationships.

I live in a quaint Spanish bungalow in a quiet neighborhood a few short blocks from a fabulous park filled with children, and within walking distance to a number of excellent schools. I share my home with Maya, my dog, who I adopted from a rescue when she was just 7 weeks old. She is a great companion, loves people and gets along great with kids; often wearing out my nieces and nephews she has so much energy!

Thank you again for taking the time to get to know a little bit about me, and for considering me with the future of your child. I can’t even begin to express how much I respect and admire you for the decision you are about to make. Your child will know about your strength and courage and about the unconditional and selfless love you have for him or her. I wish you peace of mind, confidence, clarity and security with your decision and thank you again for choosing adoption and for wanting the best possible future for your child.
