Sharon and Aric

Dear Birthmother,
We can’t wait to meet you! We’ve each had such incredible journeys of self discovery and hard choices to get here. Thanks for taking the time to learn a little about us and our story. We’re looking forward to hearing yours.
- Sharon & Aric

About Us
We met on the college fencing team only a couple weeks into Sharon’s freshman year. Our relationship grew from a strong friendship, and it only took Aric about a year and a half to finally realize that we were meant to be much more. We were married in 1999 and since then have taken on life’s ups and downs as a team.

As any couple, we were drawn together based on our similarities, but it’s our differences that make us strong life partners. Aric is loyal, dedicated, and introspective. Sharon is outgoing, organized, and creative. Together we are able to meet and overcome challenges through honesty, mutual respect and communication. We strive to balance our life between work and play and use our do-the-right-thing philosophy to guide us through daily interactions and larger life choices.

Unable to have children of our own, we built a furrier family instead. Starting with our cats, Jack and Hugo, we added our Great Dane puppy, Annie, to the family last year. We’re amazed how kids are drawn to Annie in spite of her size and she’s thrilled that they’re just the right height for kisses. Now it’s finally time to complete our family through adoption.

Family, Friends and Community
Right after we were married, we moved to Michigan without knowing a soul. As newlyweds, it was wonderful to focus on our relationship, but after a few years realized that we missed home too much. When Sharon was offered a good job back east, we took the opportunity to move closer to friends and family - Sharon’s parents live only 15 minutes down the road, Aric’s Mom is 30 minutes away, and most of our extended family and friends are all within 3 hours. We live outside of Philadelphia, in a 1900’s era home on a tree lined street that’s walking distance to a 40 acre park and close to quality schools. We were immediately drawn to our house with its inviting front porch, architectural details, and room enough to start a family.

About my Husband, Aric
Aric grew up the middle of three boys and according to his Mom he was the most fun. Aric spent his childhood in rural Pennsylvania within a mile of all of his extended family – pappy’s farm was next door, cousins down the street, and his house was only 30 feet from where the original homestead was ~300 years ago. This is where Aric learned and fell in love with working with his hands, taking things apart to see how they work, and (more times than not) getting himself into mischief.

Aric applied this adventurous and do-it-yourself spirit in college where he studied engineering and business. After working in the family machine shop and a few other small companies, he finally took the step to start his own business designing mountaineering equipment. Because of this, Aric has a flexible schedule and can easily be a stay at home Dad. He’s even willing to do diapers. Though, I know that his favorite part of parenthood will be when he gets to teach his son or daughter how to work on cars, build their own musical instruments, play sports, and do whatever else they find interesting in as they grow, explore and learn.

About my Wife, Sharon
Sharon grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia in a quiet home with her parents and younger brother. She loves nature and the outdoors, and I’m told that when she was young she could be found in the woods investigating under rocks, collecting pretty leaves, or writing down her observations of bird behavior. She’s still exploring and learning, as I can find her doing similar things even now and it’s one of the things I love most about her. She has a weakness for animals and is practically incapable of going to the animal shelter without bringing all of them home with her. Sharon is very much a dabbler that loves learning and trying new things. She’s adventurous and loves to travel, whether a weekend camping trip or a two-week safari in South Africa.

Sharon is also one of the smartest and hardest working people I know, earning her undergraduate degree in Math and a Master’s degree in Remote Sensing and Geoinformation Systems. She currently works in the aerospace industry as a manager and project lead and is highly successful and well respected in her company. Her work schedule gives her every other Friday off, which gives us ample time to volunteer at local nature preserves, spend more time with friends and family, or just catch up on house projects. She is very much looking forward to sharing her love of nature, adventure and travel with a child.

We Promise to…
Provide a home that is safe, healthy and warm.
Go on family adventures - from traveling around the world to camping in our own backyard.
Share stories about you and all the love involved in the choice of adoption.
Spend time outside playing and exploring in the park, rather than watching TV.
Teach a strong sense of right and wrong, ethics and respect for all life.
Nurture their interests and talents as they grow, make their own choices, and become their own person.
Be playful and silly, make up new games, sing songs, and build forts in the dining room.
Give lots of kisses (including big, wet puppy kisses from Annie), tons of hugs and above all, unconditional love…

And Finally
We believe that family is more than just those people you’re related to. Family is made out of love, respect, support and mutual caring of those people closest to you. Already through the adoption process, we’ve been reminded of all the beauty and love that surrounds us. We are looking forward to including you as part of our family. If you would like to speak with us about adopting your child or have any questions for us, please contact one of our Adoption Advisors at AdoptHelp by calling 1-800-637-7999 toll-free.

Sincerely,
Sharon and Aric
