Katharine and Ron

Dear Birth Mother,
Thank you for taking the time to learn about us. We hope you enjoy reading our story as you consider us to be adoptive parents. We’re very excited to love and nurture your child, and look forward to the opportunity to grow our family from the generosity of the woman who feels drawn to us. We wish you clarity and peace of mind as you look for the best choice for your child.

About Us
It is a pleasure to introduce ourselves. We are Ron and Katharine and have been together for 6 years. We are one of the many couples who met online through a dating service. Katharine jokes about how she met her prince after dating a few frogs!

We were immediately drawn to each other. Our romance started growing through email and phone calls before we met in person, because Ron was in the midst of moving back to Northern California after being in Texas for three years.

Two and a half years later, Ron, the King of Spontaneity, surprised Katharine by proposing on his birthday. Ron knelt down on one knee and said, "Will you give me the best birthday present I could ever ask for? Will you marry me?" Ron jokes about the anxiety he felt when Katharine was speechless for several moments from the surprise until she said yes! In April 2006, we had a beautiful wedding with our family and close friends near our home in the San Francisco Bay Area.

We always knew we wanted children. After trying for two and a half years and having one miscarriage, we felt drawn to adoption. We know there is a child who is meant to be a part of our family, and we can’t wait to meet him or her!

Adopting Our Furry Babies
Two years ago we adopted Ava and Maya, our three and a half year old chocolate Labrador Retrievers. We were planning to only adopt one dog before seeing them, but we fell in love with both of them at the shelter. Plus, we just couldn’t break them up when we found out they were sisters. They both love to cuddle and are very gentle with everyone, especially children. Maya loves to play fetch and Ava loves to play tug. They both enjoy taking walks and going to the dog parks. We take them everywhere we possibly can. We love and adore them and have no doubt they will bond with our baby.

Our Home and Neighborhood
We live in a quaint three-bedroom home in a nice neighborhood where we can walk to several parks, playgrounds, shops and restaurants. We have a big yard with lots of fruit trees and a vegetable garden. We love to entertain and hang out with our family and friends at home.

Our Hobbies
Ron really enjoys being outdoors. Since his grandfather taught him how to fish when he was young, he has always loved it. But, he can’t bring himself to eat the fish most of the time so he practices catch and release. He can’t wait to pass along what his grandfather taught him to his son or daughter. In the past couple of years, he also developed an interest in gold prospecting. He enjoys the adventure of looking for gold and doesn’t care if the reward is just a few specks. For the past fourteen years, Ron has really enjoyed riding his motorcycle. On the weekends, he looks forward to a relaxing ride through the hills or along the coast.

Katharine enjoys trying new recipes, especially using ingredients from our garden. She thrives on having dinner parties and isn’t afraid to try a new recipe for the first time on her guests. Ron loves her chocolate cake and asks her to make it for every birthday. Ironically, Ron never liked cake before trying hers.

Katharine loves doing all kinds of crafts. She learned to quilt when she was a kid and has made many quilts as gifts over the years. Once a month, she gets together with her sister, Ron’s mother and several friends to scrapbook. Twice a year, she attends a craft exchange with family and friends. She is always looking for new creative ideas to try and looks forward to doing crafts with her kids.

Our Adventures Traveling
We love to travel and are always thinking about our next trip. Each year, we take trips to visit family and friends, and go to at least one place we haven’t been before. We look forward to sharing our love of travel with our children and exploring the world with them.

This past summer we decided to go on an adventure, as well as help others. We went on a life changing humanitarian trip to Peru, where we had the opportunity to help street children through service projects at orphanages and drop-in centers. We painted dormitories, built a chicken coop, played with the children and helped the volunteer doctors and dentists.

It was an intense trip full of highs and lows. We worked hard, played hard, met wonderful people and saw tremendous poverty. Being of service is very fulfilling. We’re very grateful for the experience.

Our Work
We are financially stable and have enjoyed successful careers. Ron is a self-employed consultant who develops corporate web sites. Katharine just celebrated 11 years at a software company working as a business systems analyst. Fortunately, both of us have a lot of flexibility with our work. Ron works at home and Katharine can work at home whenever she needs to. When our baby arrives, Katharine will temporarily leave her position and Ron will reduce his workload so we can both bond with the baby. Eventually one of us will stop working and be home full time with our baby.

Our Values
We believe life is an adventure and our purpose for being here is to have meaningful connections with other people, animals, nature and a higher spirit. From our life experience, we know that we feel the most joy and peace when we live by the basic principle of treating others, as we want to be treated. We believe being a good example for our child is the most effective way to teach these values.

We will love our child for who they are and encourage them to follow their dreams. We believe education through school and life experiences empowers people to reach their potential. We will make sure our child has every opportunity we possibly can.

What Katharine Loves About Ron
I love how Ron nurtures everyone around him. He is always tending to and anticipating others’ needs, especially for me and our dogs.

I’m always amused when I see Ron gravitate toward kids, pets and elderly people. He engages them with his humor and playfulness. He makes me laugh and keeps me guessing with his surprises such as a romantic card on an ordinary day, a creative gift or a spontaneous trip.

Ron is my rock when I need him to be. He has common sense and the ability to negotiate a win-win situation for everyone involved. I love having him as my partner in life. I can’t wait to see him be the loving, supportive and fun father that I know he can be.

What Ron Loves About Katharine
I love how Katharine is genuinely concerned about everyone, those she comes in contact with and those she may never meet. She goes above and beyond for all of her friends and family, and isn’t afraid to tell those around her that she loves them.

I love that Katharine is a life-long student. She always wants to learn, especially when it comes to exploring new ideas of how to be a better person. She attends book groups with members of our church, where they can talk about what each book means to them and how the ideas in each book can be applied to their lives.

We laugh a lot together and she often surprises me with her humor. She’s hardly ever sarcastic, just genuinely funny. I love her innocent quirks. To name a few, she talks in her in sleep, brushes her teeth in the shower and has to turn a map in the direction we’re going so she can read it.

She has the most generous heart of any one I know. I can’t wait to see her share that with our child.

Our Family and Friends
Katharine is very close to her sister. They often get together for “sister night” and see each other at Church. Ron’s mother and younger brother live about an hour away. We see them often for family gatherings. Ron’s father passed away almost 5 years ago.

The rest of our family is scattered throughout the western United States. We get to see Ron’s sister who lives in Washington during the holidays. Katharine’s father and stepmother have a farm in Utah where we visit a couple times a year and enjoy the change from city life. We don’t mind doing farm chores, and Ava and Maya love to chase the cows!

Katharine’s mother lives in Colorado, but makes time to visit often. We enjoy visiting her and the beautiful Rocky Mountains. We also have a large extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Everyone is really excited to welcome another member to our family.

We have some very close friends that we consider family. Many of them have children. We enjoy babysitting and spoiling them! We feel so much love and support from our friends and family in our marriage and our dream to be parents.

Thank You

Wishing you well,
Ron and Katharine
