Choose A Family : Parent Profile

Julie and Simon

Dear Birthmother,
Thanks you so much for this wonderful gift of love and life. We can only imagine how difficult this decision must be for you and understand that you want the best possible future for your child. In this letter we open our hearts and our life to you so that you learn about us and hopefully see us as the right adoptive parents for your child. Whatever choice you make, we hope that it leaves you at peace. Still we will be always and forever be grateful if your choice happens to be our family.

Our Story
We are Julie and Simon. Simon grew up in a little town near St-Laurence River in the French part of Canada. Julie’s family moved a couple of time during her childhood until they finally settled in the same little town where Simon was being raised when she was a teenager. In October ’95 Julie fell for Simon’s eyes and Simon couldn’t believe how lucky he was. Soon after we both had to move to pursue our University dreams in Montreal. Luckily Simon’s engineering school and Julie’s biochemistry classes were on the same campus. Nine years after we met, we married each other surrounded by our friends and family under an oak near a convent built by Julie’s granddad. For our honeymoon we went on our first big trip to Italy! Simon’s career took us to California the same year that Julie’s PhD ended! That was the biggest road trip we have ever taken! Our cat Wulfgard followed us by plane. Although our life is rich in adventures in this new county but still a little one is missing in our family. Our desire to be parents and have a family is the reason we decided to start our adoption journey to pursue this great adventure that we call “life”!

Simon view by Julie
Simon grew up in a very small town in the French province of Canada. Despite the fact that he is an only child he spends his childhood with his numerous cousins. You can always find him outdoors either fishing or with his cousins. From a very young age Simon had the ability to resolve multiple issues and a passion for building new stuff. Without any surprise, these abilities lead him to a successful career in Engineering. One of the first things everybody (including me!) notices about Simon is his generosity and devotion; he is always ready to be of service to anybody. He never says “no” to helping a friend, a colleague or a stranger on the streets! He is also a child at heart. No matter what happens in our life, he always stops to look at a bird during his bike and loves to play his Wii likes any little ones. We’ve been together since college and never have I doubted his parenting skill. As a teenager he used to babysit his 3 cousins and now as an adult he is always in the playground playing with the kids instead of sitting and talking with the adults!

Julie view by Simon
Julie's childhood was filled with babies and little kids: her mother ran a daycare at home and she has two younger brothers. As a kid, she was so playful and had an unlimited imagination: you should hear her Barbie's game storyboard. As an adult she remains a child at heart, always looking for a little surprise in the grocery bag (Note to myself: I will soon have to put 2 surprises in the bag). Her beautiful smile is the purest ray of light I have ever seen and it's nothing compare to her cute puppy eyes. She is the most perseverant person I know. Most certainly, perseverance is a good asset when you’re knitting a sweater for a 6 feet tall guy. Julie succeeds at everything she touches and amazes me every step of the way. Her saxophone skills are way better than my guitar playing skills and her scrapbooking creations are awesome. She is my soul mate and my princess. I have deeply loved her since our first kiss and I have no doubt that she will be a great mom.

Who we are together
We’ve been together since College and enjoyed exploring the world! Traveling has been a part of our life for many years now. We’ve enjoyed Rome, Paris, London and many other little towns in Europe. When Simon’s job brought us to California, its was an opportunity to go on a road trip across America. Now, being in the San Francisco Bay Area, we are blessed with so many places to go. Within an hour drive, we can go to the beach, camp in the mountains, walk in the woods, go to Napa and Sonoma Valley or simply ride our bikes to the park. We always remember to bring our camera with us to capture all of our special moments. Photography is one of our common hobbies. We also like to cook together from day to day meals to complicated French cuisine. Simon’s burgers are known around the world and Julie’s Bourguignon beef is unbelievable. When we want to relax, we go out on the balcony with a good cup of coffee and a book (or knitting project for Julie) to enjoy California’s amazing weather and to hear the laughter of the neighborhood kids. Soon we hope to see one more smile and hear one more laugh from our child.

Our Families
Despite the geographical distance between our families, and us we have never felt closer to them. Every other day we chat with our parents over the web using our webcam… nobody will miss Julie’s new haircut or miss out on hearing about her latest recipe! We also maintain a blog with our latest photos and camping expeditions so all of our aunts, uncles, cousins and friends can keep in touch with us! Every time we go back to Canada we always have big family reunions with everybody -- Simon’s parents, Julie’s Dad, Mom, brothers and nephew…all together under one roof! Our families are thrilled about our decision to adopt and are already planning to visit us as soon as our little one arrives!

Friends Testimonies
Simon and Julie are good friends who are more like uncle and aunt for our two children. Simon and Julie looked after Kilian (4 year old) and gave him a lot of love and kindness like family members do. Julie was also present for Gabriel’s birth and took care of Kilian when we were at the hospital. We trust them and we are sure that they will be good parents in many aspects: love, care and conscientiousness. Walter & Sandrine, Friends
