Choose A Family : Parent Profile
Sara and Mike
Dear Birthmother,
Thank you for considering the gift of adoption. We appreciate you taking the time to learn a bit about us and considering us as potential adoptive parents for your child. Although we cannot completely understand the difficulty of this decision, we respect your choice and appreciate your willingness to learn more about our lives together.
We are Mike and Sara and we came into each other’s lives twenty years ago. We have been married for over ten. Our story began the first day of our freshman year of college. There was an instant connection and a foundation for an extremely close friendship. A couple of years later we realized there was much more than a friendship blossoming and began dating. Many years and life experiences brought us to our wedding day in January 2000. We had a great time relaxing on our honeymoon in Cancun. We did some snorkeling and saw all kinds of beautiful marine life. We also explored the Mayan ruins and spent a lot of time lounging on the beach. These were the first of many loving memories as a married couple.
Our Daughter
Through our three year struggle with infertility we certainly realized what a true gift a child is and that can’t be taken for granted. In 2006, we were blessed to welcome Katie into our lives through the gift of adoption. We worked with AdoptHelp and the experience was wonderful. The joy of holding her for the first time was amazing. She will be four in November and we have gotten so much excitement in seeing her grow and learn every day. She loves to dance, play with her baby dolls, paint and make sand castles on the beach. We’re quite sure being a big sister would be a role Katie would not take lightly; she has so much love and ‘big girl’ advice to share.
Our Home
We own a home in a coastal community in southern California. There is an abundance of room to expand our family. We have a bedroom ready to become a nursery. We’re keeping the colors neutral for now but are excited to add some blue or pink to the color scheme. Our backyard is great for playtime and is always filled with toys. Our dog Max, a boxer, provides us with endless hours of entertainment. He is always ready to share his toys, give big kisses, and loves to play with children of all ages. Max and Katie are the best of friends and can often be found playing together.
Our neighborhood allows us to enjoy many outdoor and recreational activities. There are always children riding their bikes around the block and we have an elementary school, park and fountain down the street. It will be such fun to walk our children to school every morning. We are close to the beach, hiking trails, parks, a community Children’s Museum and Disneyland. We find a lot of enjoyment exploring the area and childhood memories can be made around every corner.
Our Extended Family
Our extended family includes both sets of parents, each married for over 40 years, as well as three sisters and two brother-in-laws. We also have two nieces and a nephew. Our families are very excited about welcoming another baby through the gift of adoption. They couldn’t love Katie any more if she had been born to us and spoil her every chance they get. They are completely supportive and would love to become aunts, uncles and grandparents all over again.
We love to visit with our families throughout the year but we especially love the holidays. We live across the country and celebrating with them is always such a joy. No matter where we are celebrating, we have a large Thanksgiving dinner and a Christmas morning filled with presents under the tree. Our families love showering the grandkids with big hugs, lots of affection and holiday treats.
About Sara
I was raised in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania by loving parents, along with one sister, for most of my life. Traditional Christian morals, values and education were important aspects of my upbringing. Some activities I now enjoy are spending time with our family, painting, going to the movies, and traveling. With a new bike seat on the back of my bike, we have been doing a lot of biking along the beach lately. Mike and I both believe getting a good education is extremely important and I have earned both my Bachelors and Masters Degrees. I previously used my educational background as an Admissions Advisor at a local university but am currently a stay-at-home mom and will continue to be with our second child. My true joy comes with staying home taking care of my family and raising Katie.
About Sara By Mike
Sara has been my best friend for years. I was on the way to another college and decided, at the last minute, to go to our university and met Sara the first day. I think we were meant to be. She is caring, creative, loving and thoughtful. She is strong throughout the times when I’ve been away with work and takes care of me and our home. Sara is the one Katie goes to with an upset stomach, a bruised knee or when she needs some cuddling. I am so fortunate she is able and excited to continue to stay home with our children, she’s a wonderful mother.
About Mike
My father is a retired Naval Officer whose service allowed me and my family to see the country and experience America’s opportunities and cultures first hand. After being born in Yokosuka, Japan my family lived such places as Memphis, San Francisco, New Orleans, and Washington D.C. I love outdoor activities including golf, hiking and running, and completing projects around the house. I’m currently restoring a 1970 Ford Bronco, this is a big project and requires a lot of patience. Plus, we’ll have a classic car for our children’s 16th birthdays. I received my Bachelor’s Degree and then decided I was going to pursue a career in the U.S. Marine Corps. I was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in August of 1998. I am currently a Major and enjoy leading, mentoring and training Marines.
About Mike by Sara
My biggest joy is spending time with Mike no matter what the day or time. He can make me laugh at a moment’s notice and his caring nature never ceases to amaze me. Even though our problems with infertility were mine he never made me feel bad or guilty but, instead, was a constant source of encouragement and love. He is extremely excited about starting the adoption process again and can’t wait to expand our family. He’s a wonderful father, loves Katie so much and would do anything for his family and friends.
