Jeff and Marnie
Dear Birthmother,
We’d first like to express our respect and gratitude for your strength and courage in choosing adoption. We can only imagine what a difficult time this must be for you and we thank you for taking the time to read our letter and learn about our family. We are Jeff, Marnie and Hannah from San Diego, California and we are honored that you are considering us as an adoptive family for your child. We have so much to give and share and look forward to opening our home and our hearts to your child.
A Little About Us
We met twelve years ago when Jeff’s mom set us up. We quickly knew we had a special relationship and were married two years later. Adoption soon became the path to fulfill our dream of expanding our family, and three years ago we adopted our daughter, Hannah. We love the immense joy and challenges parenthood has brought to our lives. We both share close relationships with our parents and siblings and are eager and excited to welcome another child to our family and make our family complete!
We have a strong marriage that is built on love, communication, laughter, commitment and trust. We have many similar interests; yet also celebrate our individuality.
For Fun!
We are a very active couple and love travel and adventure. Wherever we go we seem to find a trail to hike or a reef to explore. We like diving in the Pacific Ocean and hiking the trails of Yosemite and Colorado. We both SCUBA dive and look forward to teaching our child when he or she gets older.
Our Home
We enjoy a sunny-southern-California-outdoor lifestyle. Living just ten minutes from the beach, we both love the ocean and all the fun it has to offer. A perfect day at the beach includes building sandcastles, playing in the water, “jumping” waves and eating a big picnic lunch. Our community is also surrounded by canyons that we can explore as a family. There are hills to hike, streams to jump across and even little waterfalls to enjoy. We are close to the world famous San Diego Zoo and Sea World. Marnie grew up attending a summer camp at the zoo, and hopes our child will have a similar interest in animals. Jeff grew up sailing on San Diego Bay and still sails competitively. We look forward to introducing our child to all that San Diego has to offer and letting his or her personality and interests dictate what activities he or she wants to pursue.
We live in a four bedroom, three-bathroom house complete with a big backyard and fenced swimming pool. Our house is where all the neighborhood kids love to be, so we frequently have neighborhood BBQs/pool parties in the backyard. As a family we often enjoy dinner on the deck, enjoying the sunsets and ocean breezes.
Education is also important to us. A little over a year ago, we moved into our home because it is in an outstanding school district. We look forward to supporting our child’s education from preschool through college
About Marnie by Jeff
Marnie is a big-hearted, happy person with a contagious smile. She is the first person to laugh at herself for doing something funny. Marnie is a natural mother and loves doing creative things with Hannah, whether it’s turning an egg carton into a painted caterpillar or dancing around the house pretending to be a horse or a bunny rabbit. In addition to being a wonderful mother, Marnie is an elementary school teacher sharing a classroom, so she works 2-3 days per week and has summers off. Marnie loves the balance that being a mother and a teacher brings to our lives. Marnie’s family is from Hawaii and we plan to raise our child in the “Spirit of Aloha,” which means a spirit of looking out for family and friends. Marnie is very creative and enjoys saving our memories of trips, holidays, family and friends in scrapbooks. She can’t wait to help our child read and explore the world through books and hands-on experiences. Marnie is looking forward to being a full-time mom and teacher for our children.
About Jeff by Marnie
Jeff is a very loving husband and a wonderful, patient father. He has a talent with both kids and animals, and is a natural teacher. He loves sharing his knowledge of the outdoors with our daughter and on a recent camping trip began to show her the ins and outs of camping and fishing. Jeff loves the water and in his free time enjoys surfing, kayaking, diving and sailing. This past Easter he bought Hannah a pink boogie board so he can teach her to surf. In addition to everything water, Jeff enjoys cooking. Along with being our “BBQ-master,” he makes at least one new recipe a month from “Sunset” magazine. I’m always a willing taster! Jeff’s love of the ocean led him to his career. He is a tugboat captain, so the Pacific Ocean is his “office.” Jeff looks forward to being a weekend sailing coach, a buddy to go surfing with and a local fishing guide to our son or daughter.
About Hannah
Three years ago our dream of beginning our family was realized with the adoption of our daughter, Hannah. Hannah loves dancing and singing around the house. She loves playing dress up, especially when our pets are involved! She loves “reading” books and playing school. She has become pretty good on the tricycle and in the swimming pool. Hannah talks about having a baby brother or baby sister all the time. You can be sure that with Hannah as an adventurous and loving big sister, your child will always have a playmate and best friend.
Family, Friends and Pets
We are very fortunate to have two wonderful families and a large group of friends. Both of our parents live 20-minutes away and can’t wait to have another grandchild to love. They will enjoy going to “story time” at the local bookstore and classes at the San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park. Jeff’s mom, Grams, looks forward to setting up home stores for her grandchildren to go “shopping” in using a little grocery cart. Marnie’s sister and family live close by and we love having impromptu family dinners during the week. We also have a large group of friends, many of whom have families, so our child will be raised with a group of "cousins" to love and play with.
Our pets are a big part of our lives. We love taking Magellan, our black lab, to the beach, the park and up to the mountains. Magellan loves children and is always ready to play fetch. We have two cats, Levi and Tyson, who are “lap cats” that love a good chin scratch or belly rub, and keep Magellan in his place.
