Choose A Family : Parent Profile
Rich and Ashley
Hello!
We are Rich and Asla from San Diego. We are a fun-loving and energetic couple who enjoy life and want nothing more than to share our love and life with a child. If you choose us, we promise to provide your child with a loving home, terrific vacations, any educational opportunity that they wish to pursue, and a lifetime full of love and care, like we both had growing up. Thank you so much for considering us as a possible family for your baby. We understand that this is a difficult decision and want you to know that we would raise your baby knowing that your decision was made from the heart with the desire to give him or her the best in life.
Our Love Story…
Believe it or not, we met at a bar in TJ Mexico. A mutual friend invited a group of us to go to TJ on a Saturday night and that’s how we met in 2000. At the time we were both attending school to get our masters degree.
After three years together, on a snowy day in 2003 in a small ceremony attended by family and friends, we got married in Philly (Rich is from Philly where his parents and relatives still live). Asla’s cousin (aka BFF) was her maid of honor and Rich’s brother was his best man.
Our Life Together…
Rich is an R&D engineer and Asla is an HR supervisor. He likes working with numbers, planning and building new things for the aerospace industry; she likes working with people, assisting them with their inquiries and helping them make the best of their career. For the past 6 years we have been with our current employers, we enjoy the flexible work schedule of having every other Friday off.
We love to travel. We are a ‘pack and go’ type of spontaneous couple who love to explore different cities in the States. So far, we have driven all over California; we have been to Seattle in the North; Maui in the South; NYC and DC in the NorthEast; Miami and Orlando in the SouthEast. We crossed the border and visited Cabo in Mexico and Montego Bay in Jamaica. When we made vacation plans with our close friends living in France, we visited London, Rome and Paris. Our next destination is Barcelona, Spain.
We have always known that we wanted to be parents and share the wonders of the world with our kids. After we found out that we were facing infertility, we chose adoption as a way to start our family. Our parents, especially moms, are very excited about the baby (this baby will be the first grandkid for Rich’s parents) and they will be with us to love this baby and to guide us with their wisdom after the birth.
A Few of Our Favorite Things…
Outdoors – Living in San Diego allows us easy access to sunny beaches. The wonderful weather encourages us to spend much of our time outdoors hiking, biking, and playing tennis together.
Vacation spot – Definitely, Maui for a romantic getaway or Mammoth for skiing
Sport to play – We are not too fond of the cold but we love skiing and snowboarding. We both learned how to ski when we were young kids and still enjoy hitting the slopes. Rich has recently taken up kiteboarding and enjoys the thrill of racing over the water and jumping (… and sometimes crashing).
Sport to watch – Football on every Sunday and Monday. Asla devotedly puts on her San Diego Chargers jersey that Rich bought for her.
Favorite comfort food – Pizza, of course. A recent addition to the list is the Panera Bread restaurant since we love their paninis, salad and soup selection.
Children’s movie – We love animated movies and our favorite ones are Finding Nemo and Monsters, Inc..
Spending our downtime – Getting together with friends for dinner and playing Taboo or Pictionary.
Family and Friends…
We each have a brother which we are close friends with. Asla’s brother is married and has adorable 5-yr old twins. We love to hang out with them and play with them. We are enchanted by their imagination when they tell us stories; we are humbled by how much unconditional love these little ones have for us. Both of our parents are happily married for almost 40 years and looking forward to retirement in the upcoming years and taking on the primary responsibility of spoiling grandkids.
Friends are and have always been a vital part of our lives. While we make new friends in San Diego through social gatherings and work, we keep our relationships strong with our old friends. We both are proud to say that we have decades-old friends – from college, high school and even back from elementary school. We also have many cousins close in age that we grew up with and who are more like brothers and sisters to us. Spending time with them, experiencing new adventures or taking a trip down memory lane with them is something we always look forward to.
Our Home…
Our home is located between SeaWorld, Balboa Park, San Diego Zoo and Seaport Village. We fell in love with the neighborhood, neighbors, parks and the restaurants nearby when we purchased it in 2004. We have a pool in our complex which we cannot wait to enjoy with a little one. Living so close to the Zoo and not much further from Sea World affords us the opportunity to become members of one or the other each year which gives us unlimited access to outdoor fun and entertainment. We are very fortunate to live in a very safe neighborhood that allows us to take walks to Little Italy district at night if our hearts are set on ice cream or dessert after dinner.

Our highest priority will be to provide our children with a safe and loving home and family, like we both had growing up. Thank you again from bottom of our hearts for reading our sincere letter written to you.
