Choose A Family : Parent Profile
Dave and Tawny
Aloha,
We are Dave and Tawny. We would love to share a little about us and who we are.
First, we want to let you know how much we admire the decision you have chosen to put your child up for adoption. What a beautiful gift of love you are giving someone. We are so excited to be parents. We cannot wait for the day when our family goes from 2 to 3 and hopefully keeps on growing.
Our Story:
Dave and I met in San Diego nine years ago through mutual friends. Our friends wanted to set us up on a blind date but instead we ended up meeting one day by chance. I guess you could say it was in instant connection. We had a lot of fun getting to know each other. Our dates consisted of going to the Zoo, The Wild Animal Park, Sea World, Hikes in the mountains and many walks on the beach. We both enjoy an active lifestyle. After 8 months of dating Dave proposed on one of our hikes. It was very romantic. We got married on September 7, 2002 barefooted on the beach in Maui, true Dave and Tawny Style. After getting married in Maui we moved to The Big Island where we spent the first five years of our marriage. We have many special memories of exploring and hiking the island. In 2007 we moved to Maui where we had the opportunity to buy a house and be close to my family.
Dave works for Costco as a manger in the merchandising department. He feels fortunate to work for such a good company and has been with them since 1989. He has started from the bottom and has worked his way up to his current position in management. He is provided with great benefits and generous amount of paid vacations which has allowed us to travel frequently. I work for Coldwell Banker Island Properties doing Vacation rentals. I am lucky to work from a home office which makes my working environment pretty relaxing. I enjoy the daily challenges that my job brings. I have a close relationship with the people I work with. My hours are flexible which will allow me the ability to stay home when needed to take care of a child.
Dave through Tawny’s eyes:
I feel truly blessed to have Dave as my partner in life. We are each other’s best friends and to me that is the foundation of a great marriage. I cannot imagine my life without him. When we met we had an instant connection and that connection continues to grow. I love the man that Dave is. He is so caring and compassionate, not only to me but to everyone around him. He has so many great qualities; he is reliable, loyal, trustworthy, self confident and just so loving. It’s no wonder why he is liked by so many. Kids and animals are drawn to him as well. That is something that warmed my heart from the beginning. I know Dave will be a great dad and I look forward to that day to see him be a father. Life sometimes throws us curve balls it’s so nice to be able to have him to lean on and be to be there for each other. I have a strong personality and Dave is more on the mellow side. He balances me out and compliments my personality. My favorite thing about Dave is the way he makes me laugh. I enjoy laughing with him and being silly. I love how passionate Dave is about the things he loves. He loves playing the guitar and has a true gift of it. It’s so much fun seeing him playing at gigs and watching people enjoy his music. He enjoys recording and writing his own songs. His other passion is surfing and being in the ocean. He tries to get there as much as possible. He recently started taking our dog Nalu out on his stand up paddle surfboard which has been so much fun.
Tawny through Dave’s Eyes:
Tawny is a beautiful sweet hearted person with a goofy but very funny sense of humor. We make each other laugh often. She is always the one thinking of others and their feelings. She makes sure to go the extra mile when celebrating birthdays and holidays paying attention to all the little things that let people know she put a lot of thought and love into it. Tawny is very creative; she makes jewelry from shells we have collected around the islands, as well as cards and homemade gifts. She has sold many pieces from time to time at craft fairs or gatherings. Tawny has a great love for animals. Our two cats Izzy and Hana and our newest addition a scruffy little dog named Nalu get the full benefits of her nurturing spirit. They are very lucky and spoiled. Tawny has a natural gift with children. It’s amazing to see her with our friend’s children, she always seems to know how to comfort them and figure out there needs. It’s no doubt she is meant to be a mother and she is going to be wonderful at it. When I first met her I was attracted to her fiery personality. She is very self assured and has no problem of standing up for what she believes is right. She is not afraid to express her opinion on any situation. When she sets her mind on a task she has the ability to finish it. Tawny has a great work ethic and is highly motivated.
Our Home:
We live in a great neighborhood. It a newer development filled with many young families. There is a great walking path around the subdivision, which has been good for walking our dog or going for runs. There are many large grassy areas along with a really nice playground for kids. There is a great sense of community which we feel lucky to be a part of. Many of our close friends live in the neighborhood which makes it fun for get together and BBQ’s. Our house is located on a quieter street with less traffic. We picked this location knowing it would be perfect for kids someday. We have a 3 bedroom/3 bath home with a nice fenced in yard. We love our home. We have poured a lot of time into our home creating a nice living environment for ourselves and one day a child.
Our Families:
Dave was born in Southern California. He spent most his childhood and teenage years between San Diego and Louisiana. He is grateful that he was able to experience both cultures and lifestyles. Dave has a younger sister Tina who lives in Pennsylvania with her husband and three kids. He enjoys being “Uncle Dave “to his nieces and nephews and has a lot of fun with them. Dave’s parents are divorced and both remarried. His mom Jana lives in Temecula, California and his dad Sid lives in Louisiana. Even though Dave’s family is spread out we make it a priority to visit often. Tawny was born and raised in Maui, Hawaii. Her parents still live on Maui and have been there for over 30 years. They are deeply rooted in the community and in their church, where we also attend. They have been married 35 years and have been good role models on how to have a successful marriage. Tawny’s sister Nicole also lives in Maui which is nice because we are able to get together as a family. We enjoy play games and Barbequing. Tawny’s family is one of the reasons we decided to move back to Maui. It is so nice living in a place having so many lifelong friends which we consider our extended family.
We are surrounded by family and friends who are so excited for us and so very supportive about our decision to adopt a baby. Everyone waits with loving arms for our new addition.
In Closing:
Thank you for taking the time to get to know a little about us. We have so much love to give a child and the means of providing them with all the opportunities that life has to offer. We know this is probably the most difficult decision you will have to make. We pray that you find peace and comfort in whoever you decide is best for your child.
Much Love and Aloha, Tawny & Dave
