Fiona and Josh
Dear Birth Mom,
We would like to thank you for taking the time to read our profile and getting to know us. We are very excited to be writing this and are filled with joy at the idea of starting our family. We would also like to thank you for the selfless act of love you have taken for both your child and for a couple like us. Our relationship of love, trust, and happiness is the foundation of our marriage and we hope that we can fulfill our dreams of being a family by sharing our love with a child. We have a lot of love and happiness to give to a child and we can provide a warm nurturing home to raise a family.
We have been together for six years and married for two years, and our love for each other continues to grow stronger every day. We are very excited about expanding our family through the adoption process. We believe that families created by adoption are special. We both have family members who are adopted: Josh has an adopted cousin and Fiona has five adopted aunts. Our children will always know their adoption story and the wonderful way we became a family!
About us
We met in Edinburgh, Scotland in June of 2003, lived together in California for two years, and married in Edinburgh in June of 2007. Over 20 members of Josh’s family came to Scotland for the wedding and enjoyed meeting Fiona’s family and learning all about where she grew up. All the men wore Kilts and everyone was very eager to embrace the Scottish wedding traditions. We look forward to taking our children on yearly vacations to Scotland and teaching them all about Fiona’s family history.
When we are not working we spend our time walking, skiing, playing tennis and catch when the weather is good, and on our Wii when the weather’s bad. We enjoy working together around the house and recently replaced all the flooring in our brand new house and landscaped both the front and back yards. When we lived in Southern California we enjoyed going to soccer matches at LA Galaxy, being from Europe, Fiona is a huge soccer fan. We also enjoy baseball and went to see the Dodgers and Angels.
We enjoy sharing our life with our two delightful two year old Scottish terriers, Molly and Iain. They are adorable, loving little dogs who are great with children and have a passion for chasing lizards in the backyard. We enjoy taking the dogs to our favorite park by the river every weekend and most days after work. This is an event we cannot wait to do with our baby.
Travel
We love to travel and visit with family in both Scotland and Oklahoma. We are both very fortunate to have been able to travel and to experience other cultures and we look forward to vacationing as a family. Fiona grew up in Scotland and has travelled throughout mainland Europe. During his time as an engineer, Josh worked all over the world in places including India, Indonesia and Venezuela. Together we have travelled to places including New York, Paris, Rome, London and the Yucatan peninsula.
Where we live
After living in Southern California for two years we decided to move to a small community in North West New Mexico. Our home is a three bedroom house, on a quiet cul-de-sac, adjacent to an elementary and middle school. We are fortunate to live near some of the best ski and summer resorts in Southern Colorado and also the beautiful desert scenery of Utah and Arizona.
Our Careers
Josh has worked for the same oilfield services company for 10 years and is now an Operations Manager for the Four Corners area and Fiona is currently studying for her post graduate teaching qualification and is working as a substitute teacher at the local elementary schools. Fiona has very flexible work hours which will allow her to spend time at home with the baby. Josh also has a flexible schedule and his office is ten minutes away from our home.
Our Families
We are both very fortunate to come from large loving families. Our mothers both come from large Catholic families, Josh’s mom is one of eight and Fiona’s mom is one of ten (five adopted) and our father’s both come from protestant families and each have one sister. Josh is the oldest of three boys and Fiona is the oldest of four: one sister and two brothers. Josh’s mother is a high school science teacher and his father also works for an oilfield services company. Fiona’s mother is an accountant and runs her own financial services company and her father is a lawyer. We both have a lot of cousins on both sides of the family so our holiday gatherings are always huge events. Our families are very supportive of our decision to adopt and look forward to welcoming the first grandchild on both sides of the family.
Fiona about Josh
If I had to describe Josh in one word it would be caring. From the moment we met Josh has always been there for me. He is the kind of man that your mother tells you about when you are small, the kind of man treats you like a princess, who opens the door for you, calls people he meets Mam and Sir, the kind of man I was pretty sure no longer existed until I met him!
Josh comes from a small town in Oklahoma and grew up surrounded by his entire family. Josh’s family is very important to him and we travel back to Oklahoma at least once every 2-3 months and his parents frequently come to visit us. All of his Aunts and Uncles still live within 10 miles of where Josh grew up and the extended family vacation together annually and have Sunday lunch together every week. I first met his entire family when Josh took me on vacation with them to Mexico and it was from that point on that I was sure he was the man I wanted to spend the rest of my life with.
I honestly cannot wait to see Josh as a father and whenever I see him with his cousin’s children and his young cousins I know he will be a fantastic dad. He can be goofy at times and knows how to make everyone laugh; he has a great sense of humor.
Josh about Fiona
Fiona is the best thing about me. She is the most loving and supportive person I have ever met. I love how she takes care of me when I have had a bad day or don’t feel well. She has taught me to see the good in every situation and to understand the bad things are usually not as bad as they seem. She has taught me to enjoy the moment and be excited about taking on future challenges.
Fiona grew up in Scotland and is a proud Scot. The stories she tells of growing up there are amazing. She was exposed to so much, learning multiple musical instruments, learning different languages, and spending her school year in beautiful Edinburgh and then spending her summers on a small Scottish island where all of her extended family still lives. She remembers waking up early and following her grandfather to the beach where they would look for shellfish for the local hotels. It all seems so picturesque they way she describes it.
Fiona will be an amazing mother. She has always played a large role in the lives of her younger siblings and loves to go to Oklahoma and spend time with my younger cousins. She is so good with children because she is so kind and patient. She recently decided to go into teaching and everyone who knows her has commented on how she is the happiest anyone can remember, since she started working with kids. She loves kids and I can’t wait to see her with our children.
In Conclusion
We have the family network to help us raise a child, as well as the financial means. We have the breadth of experiences to help us guide our child through life. We will instill good family values in our child. Most of all we want to ensure that our child grows up in a warm, happy, and safe home. We’ll never understand the gravity of the position you are in but we are committed to giving your child all the blessings life has to offer.
