Choose A Family : Parent Profile

Erin & Jim

Dear Birthmother:

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter and for considering us as the adoptive parents of your baby. We imagine this must be an emotional journey for you and we hope that you know that our caring thoughts and prayers are with you. There is so much love that goes into this decision.

Please know that if we are blessed with you choosing us to be the adoptive parents of your baby, your baby will get the most love, support and opportunity possible. With us and our extended family and friends, your baby will receive so much love, will laugh every day, and will be cherished and guided to grow into all that her or she dreams to be.
Now, we would like to tell you a little bit more about us. We hope this letter will help you to get to know us better.

A Very Loving, Fun and Committed Couple
We were introduced by a mutual friend and fell in love very quickly. We were married by the ocean in California (where Jim is from). We have been married for six and a half years, but have been together as a couple for nine years. We are best friends.

We love children. Our dream is, and has always been, to have children. During these past years of trying to have children on our own, our spirits were truly tested. Walking through those ups and downs together has made our relationship that much stronger. We know heartache, but we also understand the strength of spirit and that love overcomes all. We understand that while life’s path is not always what we expect, there are so many gifts in navigating the journey. Our faith is strong and we believe that adoption is the way we were meant to build our family. We are so excited to realize our dream of having children through adoption!

We strongly value family, friends, education, hard work, commitment and making sure to leave time for plenty of fun and laughter. We love the outdoors, going for bike rides, jogs or long walks together. We enjoy traveling, especially to warm tropical climates where we can hang at the beach, scuba dive, or do other fun “beachy” stuff. Our family and friends are everything to us and we spend a lot of great times with them!

Our Family and Friends
We are an extremely close family and boy is this is a fun crew! Our home is a place where our family and friends come often to enjoy good times. Together, we have a large family, including eight nieces and nephews. Many of them live close by. In fact, when the local group gets together, we are over 20 people! And when the California family visits it is even bigger and better! Our home is the center of many family traditions. At Easter, we dye Easter eggs, hunt Easter eggs and have Easter brunch. For Halloween we carve pumpkins, roast marshmallows and eat s’mores. And there are always big birthday celebrations!

Erin’s mom (“Oma” to her grandkids) lives within walking distance from our house. She is wonderful! All of her grandkids absolutely adore her. She loves to plan “Oma” adventures for her grandkids. One adventure was last summer, when she took two of her grandsons to Boston to visit all of the sites. Erin joined them later in the trip and brought along their sister. In Boston we saw lots of the historical sights, went on a whale watching boat trip, took the Duck Tour, and just had a fabulous time. “Oma” recently took many of her grandkids on a road trip to see the Lincoln museum. On each of her grandkids birthdays she comes early in the morning and brings them their favorite muffins, balloons and other fun birthday stuff. These are just a few examples - we could go on and on about how amazing of a grandmother she is. She just loves her “babies”.

Erin’s dad is a wonderful grandfather. He lives close by. He loves to spend time with his grandkids, especially at the family farm (a weekend place about one hour from where we live). There are always plenty of fun times at the farm where there is a lake for swimming, boating (rowing) and fishing and lots of land for running around and playing games.
Jim’s mom lives in California, and visits regularly. She is “Bamma” to her grandkids and so loves to spend special times with them, taking them on excursions to fun places.

Our friends are very dear and very important to us. We each have friends dating back to when we were small children, as well as friends we have met more recently. Most of them have children, with ages ranging from infants to teenagers.
Our family and friends are so excited for us to adopt and can’t wait to welcome and love our adopted baby!

Erin Tells About Jim
Jim is kind, intelligent, compassionate, loving, hard working, generous and a lot of fun (he loves to laugh and is my best audience). With Jim I feel so loved, protected, supported and just plain happy!

He’s really into sports. He enjoys exercise and spends a good deal of his free time running, lifting weights and playing golf. In fact, he recently completed a ½ marathon! He is also an avid sports fan and watches plenty of baseball, basketball, football and hockey. He shares season tickets for our local professional baseball and hockey team games – so we are looking forward to being able to enjoy those with our child when they are old enough. He loves to learn about new things. He reads (most recently on his new iPad) a lot and seems to polish off books so quickly.

He also has some favorite t.v. shows and we love to cozy up and watch movies together at home.
Jim was born and raised in southern California. His father passed away when he was just six years old. His mother, as a single parent, raised Jim and his two brothers in a home filled with love and support.

In high school he played both baseball and basketball. He was even good enough at baseball to play semi-pro baseball for a while. For him, sports played a big role in his childhood, his adolescence and in his becoming the person he is today. He believes that sports don’t just teach you about being a better athlete, but also teach you important and good lessons about life and about being a team player. As an adult in California, he was an avid scuba diver and also sailed. In fact he still is part owner of a sailboat in California.

He is an executive (Senior Vice President) with a large, privately held corporation. Jim works hard during the day so that he is available for plenty of family time in the evenings and on weekends. His office is only about one mile away, so his commute takes about three minutes, making it easy for him to run home during the day if need be. Jim is a dedicated family man - he cherishes and protects his family time and can’t wait to one day soon have that family expand to include a new baby. He is passionate in his belief in the importance of giving back to the community and has and is giving support to charitable organizations, both with his time and effort and financially.

Jim Tells About Erin
Erin is loving, warm, sensitive, funny/silly, thoughtful and kind. She has a wonderful sense of humor and is always doing silly things that make me and the rest of the family laugh. She is the friend one can count on – the one who is always there.

Erin grew up in the city where we live, but her work and her school have taken her on many adventures. She has lived in several different cities in the USA and she even lived in France for a while. She really enjoys other cultures and speaks French and some Spanish. She worked for a family in Paris where one of her key jobs was doing the shopping and cooking for the family. There she learned a lot about cooking and has continued to have a passion for it. Homemade, healthy food is important to her. She regularly makes us breakfast and likes trying out new recipes for dinner.
She works hard to make sure that the home and the garden are well cared for and always welcoming for visitors. She is the social coordinator for our home - planning lots of dinners and get-togethers at our home for family and friends. These usually involve a delicious dinner, music, and sometimes even dancing. One of her recent favorite things to do is to bust out her Christmas present – a Karaoke machine!

She is well educated - she has a master’s degree from one of the top universities in the country. She worked for many years in marketing and is now a dedicated community volunteer. She feels blessed that she can utilize the skills she learned in school and in work to give back to those in need in the community. One of the areas where she does a great deal of work is in the area of animal welfare. She works hard to reduce the number homeless dogs and cats and helps with some of the organizations that work to improve their lives. Her passion in this area probably started when she was growing up. Her family had a lot of pets – dogs, cats, and horses. She has a real passion about protecting and helping the innocent. She works out regularly - with exercises/weights, jogging, classes (mostly yoga) and she even takes Karate!

Our Home
Our house is very warm and welcoming. We live in the suburbs of a wonderful large city. Our neighborhood is located in a well-established part of our city, has a park area in the center of it and plenty of other children for fun times. Our back yard is large and fenced in. It is the perfect place to play games, run and have fun.
We live in one of the top public school districts. We have the opportunity to send our child to these schools or a private school - whichever is best. We have very close by (within walking distance), a couple of beautiful parks, as well as playgrounds. One of the parks close by is home to our world-class zoo and art museum, an ice skating rink, bike and running trials, and so much more. Our city is wonderful for children with all sorts of activities that they love.
We also have a beautiful vacation home within driving distance that overlooks Lake Michigan. It’s a place where we look forward to our child sharing many special times with our family and friends.

Pets
We have two dogs, Texas and Tango, and an African Grey Parrot named Shadow. Our dogs and bird love people - they are so friendly. They especially love children and spend a ton of time with our nieces and nephews. They can’t wait to have a baby in the house to love.

Our Love to Share
We have a very strong foundation of true love as a couple. We are emotionally and financially prepared to share all of our love with our adopted baby. We want you to know how much unconditional love and support this baby will get as a part of our lives. Not only will we be entirely committed in our love, but also so will all of those close to us.
This incredible gift to our lives will have all of the opportunities to be anything he or she dreams to be.

Thank You So Very Much!
Thank you for taking the time to read this. I hope that what we have written here has helped you to get to know us better and we hope to have the opportunity to talk with you soon.

With Warmth & Caring,
Erin & Jim
