Will and Rachel

Dear Birthmother,

Thank you so much for considering us to possibly raise your child. We have the utmost respect for you and can only imagine how difficult a decision this must be. You obviously love your child and we want you to know that we will be completely dedicated parents and we are looking forward to devoting our experiences, love, and fortune with your beautiful baby. Allow me to introduce ourselves; our names are Rachel & Will and we are so excited to become parents. Just to get a better idea of who we are, we’ve put together a little snap shot of the life that we will be sharing with your child. I hope you enjoy!

Our LIFE~ “Life is an experiment. The more experiments you make, the better! –Ralph Waldo Emmerson Our LIFE together~

In our house family always comes first. Every night we sit down to a home cooked dinner. Afterwards we spend time together to unwind from the day, either by watching a favorite show or a movie. One day a week is devoted to family time (usually Sunday) when we will do some kind of activity together. We also set aside time one day of the month for just the two of us to go out on a date night. We LOVE to travel and usually take two vacations a year. We especially love cruises and road trips and we can’t wait to explore the world through the eyes of a child! We are both pretty outdoorsy people; we go hiking, camping, kayaking, biking, and just about anything we can do outdoors. We definitely look forward to sharing all the exciting miracles of nature that are only truly appreciated by a child.

Rachel’s LIFE~ Here a few things that I am really passionate about and would love to share with my child: First of all, I come from a line of Methodist preachers. My faith has always been an important part in my life and some of my fondest childhood memories revolve around my life as a preacher’s daughter. I believe that children experiences a lot of life in the church and boy do I go to a fun and exciting church! It is full of live music, dancing, fun holiday get togethers, plus so many children to play with. Also, I have been passionate about distance running since I was in the fifth grade and am now training for my first marathon. When we are matched with our forever family, I would love to experience running with our child. In the town we live, there is a wonderful park with great running trails, a river complete with geese, and the most amazing playground that you have ever seen! I cannot wait to run with my child in a running stroller ending our jog at the playground, and then going to feed the geese before heading home! Another experience I would love to share with my child is cooking. I love to cook and since Will is not exactly a wiz in the kitchen, I could really use a Sioux chef to help me with the mixing, the measuring and other preparations. Will’s LIFE~ I was actually born in Moscow and my parents and I moved to the States when I was nine years old. My parents live about twenty minutes down the road from us and I know that it is important for them and for me to educate our child about the rich Russian culture. Our baby will be taught to speak fluent Russian at an early age and I truly believe that this and the overall experience of the Russian traditions will give our child an advantage in both school and life.

Sports have been a large part of my life I can’t wait to share my love of sports with my child. We will be going to baseball games, basketball games, hockey games, football games, and any other sporting event that comes to town. I also look forward to teaching my child how to play sports. We have a basketball hoop in the backyard, a racquetball court and swimming pool nearby at the recreation center, and there are also great mountain bike trails that lead from our neighborhood to the lake. Another thing that I would to share with my child is my love for the University of Texas Longhorns. I graduated from the school and, even though I would be happy with any college our child chooses to attend, I would be thrilled if they decide to attend UT.

Our MARRIAGE~ “Don’t marry the person you think you can live with, marry only the individual you can’t live without.” –James C. Dodson

Our love story begins eight years ago when we met while working at Salt Grass Steakhouse. Was it love at first site? Well, not exactly...In fact, Will’s first words to the boisterous, energetic, and sometimes loud Rachel were, “Stop yelling! You’re hurting my ears!” It didn’t take Rachel too long to break through Will’s tough shell. Within six months we were best friends; hanging out at work together, confiding in each other, and even going to dinner after work. In fact, it was during those dinners that Rachel realized that Will was the perfect guy for her. She discovered his devotion, his loyalty, his kindness, and most of all, his undying love for those he is close to. At the same time, Will noticed Rachel’s beauty and kind spirit. He also realized that the two of them had many common interests. It only took about three months of close friendship until the dating began and since that day we have been inseparable. After three years, we were married at a wonderful, intimate, winter wedding with our closest friends and family as witnesses. It’s been over four years since our wedding day and we are still deeply in love!

Our FAMILY~ “A family is a unit not only composed of children, but of men, women, an occasional animal, and the common cold.” –Ogden Nash

Your baby will be surrounded by a loving family! Grandma and Grandpa S. only live twenty minutes away and Grandma and Grandpa B. (GeeGee and Pop-Pop) are only a forty minute drive away! Grandma S. has a passion for photography; in fact, most of the photos in this letter were taken by her. You will be given plenty of professional quality photo updates if you choose. Grandpa S. will educate your child about all the Russian cartoons and the rather entertaining Russian music. Grandma and Grandpa S. also enjoy inviting the family over for a Russian style feast. Great Grandma and Great Grandpa live in Baltimore and the entire family enjoys a yearly trip in May to celebrate Great Grandma’s birthday. While up there, we also enjoy touring our nation’s capital and visiting nearby cities such as Philadelphia, Gettysburg, and even Boston. Your baby will also enjoy going out to the country to visit GeeGee and Pop-Pop! They spend most of their free time relaxing out at the nearby lake in their RV. There they, too enjoy having large family gatherings with many aunts, uncles, cousins, and, of course, Great Memaw and “Papaw the Great” and Great Granny and Great Grandpa B.

Not much further up the road live Aunt Michelle, Uncle Byron, and cousins; Gabriel (4yrs), Selah (2yrs), and Baby S. (due in October). This is Rachel’s sister and brother-in-law and we are both very close to them; so your child will be able to share a close bond with his/her cousins! Uncle Pavel and Aunt Lizzy (Will’s brother) are only 30 minutes south. As you can see, not only will your baby be surrounded by family in Texas, but he/she will also enjoy visiting other family members in Colorado, Maryland, Virginia, and even Russia!

Our HOME~ “A house is made of walls and beams; a HOME is built with love and dreams” -Dr. William A. Ward

Thirty minutes outside of Austin, Texas lies a charming little town named Georgetown. With a historic town square, a relatively large lake, and the beautiful San Gabriel river Georgetown is the perfect place to live. It has a small town feel, but is only miles away from the best city in the nation (Austin). Georgetown boasts of excellent schools, low crime rate, and plentiful parks and activities. This is the place that we’ve made our home. This the place that we will raise our family! Our neighborhood is located on the outskirts of the town right next to the lake. In fact, we are considered a lakeside community with walking trails that lead a short distance from our neighborhood to the lake. Our community is small with a total of around seventy houses and we are tucked away from major streets. There are only two entrances/exists that lead into the community and there is no other reason to go down those streets unless you were meaning to visit the neighborhood. The elementary school is literally two blocks away and I look forward to walking our child to and from school, of course with our two dogs tagging along. The neighborhood is a good mix of ages with plenty of ‘grandmother’ like figures that treat the neighborhood kids to milk and cookies, as well as plenty of younger kids to play with. There is a small park and many neighborhood get togethers. We love where we live and we decided to settle here, knowing that it would be the perfect place to raise a child!

Our PETS~ “A house is not a home without a pet” –Anonymous

We are definitely animal lovers and have four pets to prove it! The first pet came along nearly ten years ago when Rachel was a freshman in college. Rachel’s had Sadie since she was five weeks old and now that she’s an old lady she gets around with some troubles, but still finds the energy to chase her tail every morning. Sadie has always been great with kids; very loving and patient.

Penny came along three years ago when we bought the house. Energetic and loving; she is a great dog for a child to chase around the yard. She loves attention and will definitely want to be the center of your baby’s world.
Cocoa the cockatiel came around a year and half ago and although he hates being out of the cage, he keeps the family entertained with his whistles, songs, and constant chatter.
The baby animal of the family is our cat, Desmond. Desmond is curious, loving, playful, and patient around my niece and nephew.

Our pets are a part of our family and we will definitely raise our child to be an animal lover like ourselves.

Our ADOPTION~ “We look at ADOPTION as a very sacred exchange. It is not done lightly on either side. I would dedicate my life to this child” -Jamie Lee Curtis

Rachel~ I’ve known my entire life that I’ve wanted nothing more than to be a mother and a wife. Once I found my Prince Charming, I started working on a career that would allow me to work from home while raising my child. In essence, I’ve based my entire life on my family.

After we were married, the next step, we found a cute little house in Georgetown that seemed created to raise a child! After years of trying to add to our family the traditional way, we realized that we were destined to adopt. As one of Rachel’s colleges expressed, “God puts special people on the Earth that are meant to adopt” and we truly believe that our family will be completed through adoption. Although we were upset that we are unable to have children of our own, we know that are family was destined to be completed another way.

Our Style as PARENTS~ “It’s not only children who grow, PARENTS do too. As much as we watch to see what our do with their lives, they are watching us to see what we dowith ours. I can’t tell my children to reach for thesun. All I can do is reach for it myself. -Joyce Maynard

Rachel~ It’s hard to imagine how you would be as a parent, but I see myself as being a FUN mom. I love to turn on a good song, jump around, dance off beat, and sing on the top of my lungs and I see myself doing this goofy outburst with my child. I definitely would love to teach my child different crafts and even decorate to celebrate the most mundane holidays. I want my child to learn that being active can be fun whether it’s through dancing, running, basketball, or riding a bike. I definitely consider myself a foody. I love to prepare and eat amazing foods, but everything I make is nutritious. I would live to teach my child how to nourish themselves and eat healthy, but also tasty foods. I would like to believe I would be the parent that is always in the middle of all the fun excitement. I’m not the type to sit on side of the playground, chatting with the other moms, but I’m the type to run up the ladders, slide down the slides, and jump off the swings! Although, I see myself doing all the things mentioned above, I also see myself as the disciplinarian. I do not believe in spoiling kids and I’m a firm believer in the “knotty chair” (time out). I also believe in using rewards for good behavior and a job well done.

Will~ I’m definitely the soft one...I’m the type of dad that would be wrapped around my child’s finger. I also plan on being a very active dad; constantly taking my child out to the nearby lake, challenging him/her to a game of basketball and taking my child out on fun excursions like sporting events and amusement parks. Rachel will teach our child creativity and manners, but I will teach our child finances and math.

Our CAREERS~ “What is the recipe for successful achievement?....Choose a CAREER you love, give it the best there is in you, seize your opportunities, and be a member of the team” -Benjamin F. Fairless

Rachel~ I have a really cool career that I love. I am the owner of my own award winning, nationally recognized wedding planning company! Best part...I decided to get into this field of work, so that I would be able to write my own schedule and work from home. I did this with the expectations of being able to raise my own child! My job is fun and challenging and I know that I’m good at it. Best part for my child...I get to bring home left over wedding cake and fun guest favors.
Will~ Although my career might not be as exciting as Rachel’s, I provide the stability needed to raise a family. I am the University of Texas account manager for Dell Computers. Not only do I get to work with my favorite university, but I do also really enjoy the team I work with. I am always home from work by 6pm and have off on the weekends, so I’m able to raise our child while Rachel is at weddings and meetings.

Again, thank you for your time and consideration.
