Brandi and Steve

Hello and thank you so much for taking the time to read about us. We are Steve and Brandi from Houston, Texas. We met in 2004 and have been happily married since 2007. We are incredibly excited to be writing to you, and are filled with joy at the idea of starting our family. Our relationship is a solid one full of friendship, trust, respect and boundless love. We dream of bringing a child into our loving arms and safe, comfortable and fun-filled home. Shortly after we were married, we began a journey to start our family. Our battles with infertility were difficult for both of us, but ultimately strengthened our relationship as husband and wife. We still long to raise a child together in the stable family foundation we have built over six years. Through us, your child will have every opportunity to experience the wonders of life. We place a high value on education and will ensure your child will have every educational opportunity possible. We are excited to complete our family through adoption and can’t wait to share our love with a child. To us, adoption is an incredible gift; your child will always know about you and their special adoption story. As you read our profile, we hope you get a sense for who we are, both as individuals and as a couple sincerely dedicated to loving one another.

Meet Brandi
By Steve: Brandi is a woman full of life, love and joy. She is always happy to see me, no matter what kind of mood she or I happen to be in at the time. Brandi is the embodiment of a giver; she is the person her family and friends consistently turn to when they need advice or help. Brandi is neither selfish nor materialistic, and being with her has helped me become a better person. Brandi picked a career in nursing because she likes helping people. She loves her patients—I never knew patients bought gifts for their nurses until I met Brandi! She loves her nieces and nephews, and has a natural instinct and ease with children. Brandi’s caring nature translates to animals—I never had any pets before I met Brandi, and thanks to her, I now treat pets like human beings. I am not even embarrassed to walk our poodle around the neighborhood!
By Brandi: I am an outgoing, friendly person. I’m pretty laid back, I don’t get too stressed about the little things. Steve and I are alike in that respect. I have a deep love for animals. Growing up, our family had dogs, cats, even a raccoon and a skunk. I spent most my childhood riding and showing Arabian horses. Steve and I have a dog and two cats. Jerry is an 11-year old poodle that we rescued three years ago. He’s a funny little guy who loves bones and car rides! Max and Simon are our two cats. They are polar opposites, but the best of buds. Our pets bring such joy to our lives.

Meet Steve
By Brandi: Steve is the most important person in my life; he’s my best friend and the best thing that ever happened to me. He’s the total package. I call him “Even Steven”—calm, collected, practical. Steve treats me with the utmost respect and consideration. He’s generous and unselfish. He is intelligent with a wicked sense of humor. Everyone loves Steve. Steve has a great goofy side; he has a little dance that he does that just cracks me up. He also has a soft side. When I saw how gentle and patient Steve was with my 15-year-old blind, deaf poodle, there was no doubt in my mind that he was the one for me. Seeing the tenderness Steve shows to our dog and cats just warms my heart. I can just imagine how he’ll be with our child. I know that Steve will be an amazing father. Steve and I have a wonderful relationship. We enjoy spending time together, enjoy doing a lot of the same things and usually do most things together. A friend of mine recently said that we “made marriage look so easy.” And it is with Steve. We do a lot of laughing, a lot of playing, but also a lot of talking about politics and current events.

Hobbies and Leisurely Pursuits
By Steve: Brandi and I share a lot of hobbies, so we spend a lot of time having fun together. I like to play golf, go biking, running short races (I’m not into marathons—those people are crazy!), go to the movies, hit sporting events, and a bit of travel. Though Brandi and I are not quite jet-setting world traveler types, we always take a nice vacation about once a year. We frequently go on weekend getaway trips to my father-in-law’s farm. When we want to do something cheap and easy, we will take the dog to the park.

By Brandi: Steve and I truly enjoy each other’s company and share many of the same interests. We are both big movie buffs and love sitting down to watch some of our favorite old classics. We enjoy doing things outdoors, and incorporate outdoor activities into our travel. We’ve been whitewater rafting, love horseback riding, and always try to find a new place to golf when we travel. We both enjoy professional football, baseball and hockey. We go to several hockey and baseball games a year. I am a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan and watch them even if Steve is rooting for anyone who is playing against them.

Quick facts:

  • Steve is a news junkie
  • Steve enjoys singing karaoke
  • Steve loves old cheesy Star Trek episodes
  • Brandi is a huge Dave Matthews Band fan and has seen him in concert more than 10 times. She’s also a sucker for old ‘70s tunes and ‘80s alternative. Mix in some Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra – and that’s Brandi’s perfect playlist.
  • Steve and Brandi support their local SPCA, as well as national animal organizations. Brandi recently raised over $500 for the SPCA by running in a local 5K race.

Our Jobs
By Brandi: I am a registered nurse and work in cancer research at a leading cancer hospital. I have a great job that’s very flexible and allows me to work from home every other day. I truly enjoy my job, but it is my life away from work that is most important to me —my job affords me the ability to enjoy that life.
By Steve: I am a professor of political science at a community college. My job gives me the opportunity to live a full and well-balanced life outside of work. I enjoy teaching and feel it is a noble profession, but my job does not define me. I like the fact that it gives me financial security but still allows me time to spend with Brandi and pursue my hobbies.

Family and Friends
By Brandi: My family means everything to me. I have an older brother and sister and several nephews and nieces. My family members all live a few hours away, so we drive up for holidays and visits several times a year. I talk to my mom and my sister several times a week. My father has a large farm with a menagerie of animals, including horses, miniature horses, cows, chickens, ducks, emus, Dolly the llama, Willie Wonka the alpaca and Sammy the zebra—not to mention all the cats and dogs. It’s an awesome place for children, and I can’t wait to take our child out there to experience it. My family is all so excited that we are adopting and look forward to showering the new family member with tons of love.

By Steve: I grew up in Nebraska in a very large family. As the youngest of nine children, it was always loud, hectic and fun in the house. You learned to eat fast if you ever wanted seconds at the dinner table! With so many children, no one ever got spoiled, but there was great emotional security in the house. Today, all of my siblings except one are married, and I have 19 nieces and nephews. Since my family is spread out all over the country, we manage to all get together about every other year, but I am close to a brother and a sister and see them fairly often.

In addition to our extended families, we have a circle of close friends who are so excited about us becoming parents. Our child will have many local “aunts” and “uncles.”

Our home & community
We live in a comfortable townhouse in a historic area near downtown Houston. Living in the city is so great; we make sure to take advantage of all it has to offer. Our home is within walking distance to a large city park and within a few minutes of the zoo, festivals, museums, sports and cultural attractions of every kind. The beach is less than an hour away! Our town home is a loft style that’s light and airy with a lot of windows. There is a nook right off of the master bedroom that is perfect for the nursery. Our little neighborhood is a close-knit community where everyone knows each other. It’s common to see several neighbors sitting outside enjoying the evening with kids running around playing.

Our Parenting Philosophy

  • Values: We promise to teach your child important values: kindness, respect for others, helping others, self-reliance and education (among others!).
  • Environment: For children to feel loved and secure, parents must provide a stable home environment. Our home will be a safe place marked by trust, love, encouragement and kindness.
  • Education: We look forward to seeing the intellectual and emotional growth of your child. We are excited about them seeing and doing new things—riding a bike, getting a pet, whitewater rafting on family vacations, learning new things at school and going to sporting events.
  • Family time: People talk a lot about the importance of quality time, but there needs to be some emphasis on quantity time too. We will make concerted efforts to be together for the little things: eating dinner together, talking about our days, and being available for homework help each evening.
  • Activities: Your child will experience the best things life has to offer. We look forward to taking your child to the zoo, reading bedtime stories, sitting on the floor playing games, decorating Christmas tree as a family, taking walks to the park, and teaching your child about animals.

Final Thoughts
Again, we’d like to thank you for taking the time to read about our story and our dream of building our family through adoption. We hope you see the strength of our relationship as husband and wife, our dedication and love for one another, and the incredible love we have to offer as parents. With us as parents, your child will enjoy a life full of laughter, learning, exploration and loving guidance. Should you choose us as adoptive parents for your child, we will always hold you in our hearts with love and gratitude. Your child will grow up knowing about you and the exceptional, selfless gift you gave him or her through adoption. We wish you best of luck with your decision. Whatever choice you make, we know it will be the right one for your son or daughter. We look forward to hearing from you and learning more about your story.

Sincerely,
Brandi & Steve
