Choose A Family : Parent Profile

Courtney and Stephen

We're Courtney & Stephen, and we are happy to have the opportunity to share a little bit about ourselves with you.  Thanks for reading our letter!

We consider being adoptive parents an honor and a true gift. We know you only want the best for your baby and we want you to know that we're ready to be parents. We are financially stable and committed to offering your child a wonderful life full of love and opportunity. We promise to provide your child with a structured and extremely loving home for him/her to grow and thrive, healthy and home-cooked meals, a terrific education, and millions of kisses and hugs! We look forward to the day when we can meet you and personally thank you for choosing us and giving us this honor.

ABOUT US TOGETHER
Four years ago, we were introduced by mutual friends who thought we would be a perfect match… and they were right!  On our very first date, we talked and laughed and quizzed each other on every subject imaginable.  We talked about kids -- and we both expressed a desire to one day adopt a child (or two!).

Our first date led to a second date and from then on we have been inseparable.  We finish each other’s sentences and have a general telepathic relationship…a sure example of why we’re meant to be together. We make a good team and never take each other for granted. We believe that our relationship deserves the greatest respect…and just know that we can't live without each other.

We love to cook gourmet, organic meals for friends, go to museums, watch movies, and travel.  We enjoy our daily morning walks along the Los Angeles River with our dogs where we get to see some of the many miracles of nature.  During the summertime, we are lucky enough to get to see bands and other musical ensembles at the Hollywood Bowl. We also make sure to do lots of laughing at silly stuff….we don’t take ourselves too seriously!

ABOUT MY WIFE, COURTNEY
As a little girl, Courtney played the piano and violin, enjoyed soccer and loved taking care of "her baby" (a handmade doll that looked just like her).   She attended the University of Southern California and La Sorbonne in Paris, France, obtaining degrees in both Film and French. After college, Courtney worked producing movies and television commercials before landing in the very satisfying career of residential real estate.  She loves helping families find their dream home.

When I imagined the wife I wanted someday, it was Courtney. So when I met her I was floored to find out that this person I had created in my head actually existed! Truth be told, she’s even better than what I had imagined. She never ceases to amaze me with how she cares for people. Courtney is the most thoughtful person I've ever known. She's the one that shows up at your house with supplies when she finds out you’re sick. She's the first person you get a birthday card from.  She's the one that looks after the old folks in our neighborhood.  She is a phenomenal cook -- her specialty is soup. Any kind, any time…she makes the best soups.

Courtney is a natural with children, she has cared for infants, “tweens” and teenagers, as a babysitter and she absolutely loves being around kids.  She's the favorite aunt to all of our nieces and nephews, and I believe she will be the best mother in the world!

ABOUT MY HUSBAND, STEPHEN
Stephen grew up playing sports, painting/drawing, and fishing at a stream near his home.  When he was only 13 years old he was at the Junior Olympics sports camp for gymnastics in upstate New York and was spotted by a recruiter for the School of American Ballet in New York City.  This took him at a very early age to the City, where he attended the Professional Children's School and then danced for the country's premiere dance company -- American Ballet Theatre.  Today, he's a writer and artist.

Stephen’s an avid runner, a great cook (he makes amazing pizza!), an attentive gardener, a skilled yoga practitioner, and is extremely knowledgeable about world history and current events. He is -- most importantly -- a creative, wise and compassionate person. He is very spiritual, believes in the good of all mankind, and he is a wonderful partner. Who could ask for a more perfect husband?

If you saw Stephen with our nieces, nephews and friends’ kids you would instantly know what a good father he’ll be. He is just as comfortable crawling on the floor with our youngest nephew as he is talking about math or braces with our oldest niece. Our friends’ children are transfixed by his stories, games and attentiveness. Everyone who knows Stephen comments on his knack for keeping children laughing and engaged. He truly cannot wait to be a father, and I am so happy to be blessed with a husband who shares my excitement about parenthood.

HOME
We both grew up in the suburbs of big cities -- Courtney outside of Los Angeles and Stephen outside of New York.  This allowed us opportunities that we, in turn, look forward to offering our children: exposure to art, music, languages, architecture, food, film, and outdoor activities.   We feel lucky to live in a wonderful, culturally diverse neighborhood on the edge of Los Angeles.  We have access to everything that a big city has to offer, but also get to enjoy our pretty, Spanish-style home complete with a small organic garden and orange, lemon, mango, walnut, peach and guava trees.  We live in a tight-knit community with lots of kids and all of the services we need within reach.  A Farmers’ Market, family-friendly restaurants, hiking trails and a terrific elementary school are all within walking distance of our home. Along with our two dogs, Rich (border collie) and Kenya (lab mix), we are a loving family with a great home life that could only be made more perfect with the addition of a child.

FAMILY
Family means everything to us and some of the best times that we have throughout the year are when we're surrounded by our families.  With six nephews and two nieces ranging from 1- to 13years old, there is always fun to be had!  Every February we spend time with Stephen's parents, twin brother, sister, twin nephews and niece in Florida.  We ride bikes on the beach, eat fish & chips and build a few sandcastles.

Every August, we spend a few weeks with Courtney's twin brothers and their families in the woods of Vermont.  We hike, swim and enjoy classical music under the stars at the Marlboro Music Festival.  A few times a year we head to New York City where we connect with old friends as well as Courtney’s brothers and Stephen's youngest sister and her family.

At home in Los Angeles, we visit with Courtney's parents almost every weekend, typically by having breakfast together.  Having them nearby is one of the greatest blessings we could ask for....and, they are so excited to have a grandchild in California.

CLOSING
Writing this letter to you makes us so happy.   It just feels like the right path for us --- and we hope that you'll feel the same. Thanks for taking the time to get to know us a little better. We hope you choose us to share in this miracle!

With love and gratitude,
Courtney & Stephen
