Choose A Family : Parent Profile
Jen and Scott
As we prepared to write you this letter about our dream of adopting your baby, we realize that you will be giving us the most precious gift in the world- we cannot begin to thank you for considering us as parents for your baby. We know how difficult a decision this must be for you and we want you to know that we will spend every day of our lives providing every bit of love your baby deserves, as well as all the opportunities for your baby to have a happy and fulfilling life.
About Us
Scott and I came into each other’s lives five years ago through an unusual (and happily, successful!) way-internet dating. We were both a little nervous about dating someone you meet online, but after our first date, we both knew we were meant for each other! We spent as much time together as possible, exploring new places throughout California, like San Francisco and Hearst’s Castle, all the while discovering how much we just clicked. I have always been shy around new people, but I felt instantly comfortable with Scott and I could talk to him about anything.
Scott set up a romantic weekend four years ago to propose to me-a day I will never forget! He set up a “vacation” for all of our friends and us in Mammoth Lakes at a condo. We both love to hike up in the mountains, so he took me on a hike to a beautiful waterfall up in the mountains called Rainbow Falls. Rainbow Falls is famous for creating a full rainbow a couple of times per day when the sun hits it just right. At 4:00 P.M., Scott got down on one knee after a rainbow flashed over the falls in front of us and asked me to marry him. He gave me the most beautiful ring! We had to literally run for 2 miles to catch the last bus that takes hikers off the mountain-we didn’t think we would make it! When we got back, all of our friends had the condo all decorated for an engagement party that Scott and our friends had planned for weeks. Scott is an old-fashioned romantic and it just makes me melt when I think about that day!
Scott and I got married in 2007 in a beautiful church high up on a cliff overlooking the ocean in Dana Point, California. We had a beautiful reception in a historic Victorian building right on the ocean where every huge window looked out into the ocean and ships slowly going by as we celebrated our lives beginning as man and wife. That perfect day of our lives joining together will live in our memory for as long as we both live! Our three years as a married couple have brought us even closer together and made it so clear that we will be happily married for our entire lives!
Work and Home
We are both teachers, which we are passionate about and find very fulfilling on a personal level. Jennifer teaches a Reading class to struggling students at a charter high school and loves helping her students become more successful at reading, which has always been difficult for her students throughout their lives. Scott is a dedicated middle school teacher who does everything he can to help his students do well in school. Scott has been named ‘Teacher of The Year’ twice by his school district because of his passion for teaching. His love of History is infectious and he gets the kids excited about it, too! Being a teacher also means our child will have one of us right there at the same school to keep an eye on him/her during their school years and not with babysitters after school. Our jobs also allow us to be on the same schedule, so we enjoy our summer breaks together and will allow us to spend family time with our child. We are both excited to help our child be successful in school and see to it that our child goes on to a good college in order to pursue his/her dreams.
We own a three bedroom home in southern California. We have a room ready to be the nursery and we can’t wait to decorate it to make it a warm and happy place for your baby! We live in a quiet neighborhood with lots of trees and where we know our neighbors, who all have kids. Our city is well known for being family oriented, which is why we chose to move here earlier this year. There are parks all over the city, including one right across the street from us. Our city has a new small water park for kids and dozens of youth programs run by the city at the parks.
Our neighborhood has excellent schools, biking trails. The two closest elementary schools and the area high school all have huge blue painted ribbons on their school walls for being recognized by the U.S. government for providing an outstanding education, which was important to us when we chose to move here. We love to be active outdoors, so we enjoy being able to ride our bikes on the bike trails available throughout the city.
We also love to do activities available throughout Orange County. Since we live only 20 miles away from Anaheim, we have annual passes to Disneyland. We enjoy going every month to Disneyland to take some of the rides, or see the fireworks at night after work. Our two favorite rides are ‘Soaring Over California’ in California Adventure and ‘Buzz Lightyear’ in Disneyland. We also enjoy watching the Angels play baseball during the summer months in Anaheim. We like to go to the beach in San Clemente each month. We can’t wait to share all of these things as a family and take thousands of pictures during family outings to these places and more!
Our Family
We are blessed to each have a close-knit family who love us and support us each and every day. Both of our parents have remained married for over 35 years and supported us in all of our dreams and ambitions. We are so lucky to have a sister and a brother, and our cute little nephew and niece. We get such a thrill when our nephew and niece run to us out of the car, yelling “Auntie Jen” and Uncle Scott!” We each have grandparents that we get to visit, as well as uncles and aunts that we are close to and we see throughout the year. Our entire family lives in southern California that will be part of our family structure. They are so excited that we are adopting a baby!
We spend the holidays with our relatives because we were both raised in homes where the holidays were a time to be together and enjoy being a family. Christmas is our favorite holiday! We go kind of nuts on the Christmas decorations at our house-our rafters in the garage are full of decorations! Our house is lit up with flashing Christmas lights, we have Christmas villages inside the house, a lit up Santa sleigh and deer on our rooftop, and the trees in our front yard are all lit. It takes a couple of weeks to get everything set up, but it’s so worth it!
We are also very fortunate to have a group of friends who we have been very close to for many years and whom all have kids of their own. We spend time with them celebrating kids’ and adults’ birthdays, 4th of July and New Years Eve, having backyard BBQs, our annual trip to Mammoth Lakes, and some weekend fun trips. We can’t wait for our child to have these close friends and their kids join our family in celebrating birthdays at our place and sharing in these fun adventures!
We would be remiss not to mention the last member of our family-our beautiful, chocolate striped greyhound by the name of Poker. We adopted Poker from a greyhound rescue foundation when he was three years old after he retired from racing in Mexico. Poker is the sweetest natured dog who loves people-he doesn’t have a mean bone in his body! The only time he ever woofs is when we say the word “walk” around him-he loves to take walks in our neighborhood! He starts pawing the door when we say “walk” to get outside. Poker has been around our little niece and nephew and he just lays down so they can pet him. We are lucky to have such a good-natured pet as part of our family.
Scott about Jen
Jen is the most amazing woman I have ever known! She is so devoted to her family and to her friends. Jen is very modest, so most people don’t know that she was on the U.S. National Tae-Kwon-Do Team and placed 3rd in the World Championships. When we first started dating, my friends would tease me saying, “You better be careful-she could actually kick your butt!” Jen can be very silly at times and makes funny faces to make me laugh-I call her my little ‘Goof Ball!’ I can honestly also say that I have NEVER known anyone who has such a rapport with children-they always come to her, whether they are our nephew and niece or our friends’ kids. I tease her and call her the “Pied Piper” because kids follow her everywhere. She is so patient with kids and loves to play with little children. Jen’s love of children is why she trained young children in Tae-Kwon-Do when she was in college and why she got her degree in Education and became an amazing teacher! She loves to spend time with children each and every day! I know my wonderful wife will be an amazing Mom and that she aches to share her abundant love with her own child.

Jen about Scott
I love Scott because he is such a moral man and can make me smile with his dry sense of humor. Scott is an old-fashioned romantic and does the “little things” just to show me how much he loves me. He always opens my car door or the door to a store to let me in first, and sometimes, shows up at home with flowers to say, “I love you!” I love Scott because he is very clever with a sense of humor in almost any situation. His ability to make me smile is something I treasure about him. Scott so wants to be a Dad to his own child and I know he’d be a great Dad! Scott vacationed with his family and often tells me how much he looks forward to doing the same with his own family in the future. With Scott and I both having Summers off from work, we look forward to taking our child to places we loved to go when we were growing up, like Yosemite National Park, the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone National Park, and trips through Europe. I know Scott will be a great role model for our child and spend lots of time with our child doing weekend activities.
We want to thank you again for taking the time to learn a little about us. We are so excited to become parents and promise that we will love the child we are blessed with every single day of our lives! Our thoughts and prayers go with you as you make this difficult decision in your life.
Forever Grateful,
Jen and Scott
