Kathy and Ron

Dear Birth Mother:

The first thing we want you to know is how much we think you are an amazing person…yes, even though we don’t know you! Brave, selfless and courageous are only a few works we would use to describe someone willing to put the life of their baby before theirs. You are a very special soul and we would be honored to just meet you much less be considered as the parents to adopt your beautiful baby. We would be blessed and overjoyed.

We first met when Ron visited California with Kathy’s cousin. Kathy was at her parent’s house recuperating from surgery when her cousin showed up with his gorgeous friend, Ron from New Jersey. Kathy’s initial thought was, “Good grief, here’s a cute guy and I look like death, no makeup, greasy hair and I’m wearing sweats!” Ron’s initial thought was “Mike has a pretty cousin!” About a week later, we were calling each other “hun” like we always knew each other and fit together like pieces of a puzzle. Ron soon moved to California and we were married on New Year’s Eve, 2004. It was the best party ever!

WHO WE ARE IN GENERAL…HIGHLIGHTS!
We are a pretty average couple who always dreamt of having a large family. Although it appears that will not happen naturally, we still have not given up on our dream. Since Ron was also adopted, the idea of adoption was always a part of the plan! Overall, we are truly blessed people in so many ways:

We live by the beautiful Pacific Ocean in Redondo Beach, California, where we spent a lot of time walking on the beach.
We both have great jobs. Ron has his own business in insurance and Kathy is in advertising at Mattel, the Toy Company.
Although our parents have passed, we have a big family that is very supportive and fun to be with, especially Kathy’s sister, Mary, and brother-in-law, Scott.

We have great friends that are so excited about us adopting and can’t wait to see us as parents.
We attend the most amazing church that allows us the opportunity to worship God in a powerful way and connect with a very active group that does a lot of volunteer work for the community.

We have 2 very active, beautiful dogs named Frodo and Strider who bring us so much joy and love every single day.
We have been blessed financially to be able to travel all over the world, allowing us to learn about many different cultures, faiths and languages.

OUR LIFE TOGETHER
We love to travel; our honeymoon was a Mediterranean Cruise where we got to see Rome, Egypt and the Pyramids, Greece and Turkey. We love to attend sporting events especially UCLA games where we have tailgated with college friends for many years…we get about 25 people at each game and it is tons of fun. We love to do volunteer work for a number of charities that include feeding the homeless, helping at the pregnancy help center, and serving at fundraiser dinners for a number of causes. We always feel so good about ourselves after we spent time helping someone else in need. We also love to listen to books on tape, especially Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. BUT, what we love to do most together is watch movies. Both of us are buffs but Kathy truly gets cranky is she has not been to the movies in a month.

OUR CURRENT KIDS…YES WE ARE PATHETIC ABOUT OUR DOGS
We used to think people who talk about their dogs like they are kids were pathetic…well we are officially pathetic. We have 2 Basenji’s, Frodo and Strider. Frodo is a bit on the emotional side and always has to sit on one of us when we are home but he is all boy and loves to run like the wind every chance he gets. Strider is a sweetheart and loves to get his belly scratched whenever possible. The best thing about our dogs is they love to play together. We just love them because they give us so much love.

WHAT KATHY SAYS ABOUT RON
Aside from being so good looking, Ron is my anchor. I am very talkative (Chatty Kathy) and an extrovert and always on the go so Ron helps be slow down. He is the ying to my yang and a great listener. Ron is the most loyal dependable trustworthy person I know who is also a great friend and will do anything for those he loves. I get tears in my eyes when I see Ron with kids – my nieces and nephews adore him and he is so patient and protective of them. I am absolutely certain that he will be the most amazing father. I can’t wait to see him be the coach for whatever activity they are involved in…sports, clubs, etc. He is such a great guy!

Born in Lynwood, CA, 100% Irish
Has 7 brothers, 1 sister and 19 nieces and nephews
Was a cheerleader in high school
Graduated from UCLA and was an intern at the FCC and ABC.
Was the director of advertising at Universal Studios Hollywood Theme Park and now works at Mattel.
Favorite color – blue
Favorite book – To Kill A Mockingbird
Favorite sport – Football
Favorite TV Show – Was 24, but now, Glee or Medium

WHAT RON SAYS ABOUT KATHY
My wife loves to laugh…but more importantly she loves to make other people laugh. Along with her beauty, it was her humor and readiness to have fun and try new things that most attracted me to her. Kathy is a great friend and is very supportive and compassionate but people also love to be around her. She has a lot of friends and keeps them for life. Kathy is unbelievable with kids. At any family function, I can always find her in the middle of the kids, playing cards (she keeps a pack in her purse), games or just hanging out with them. She has the ability to make kids, no matter the age, feel important. I am a lucky guy feel!

OUR FAMILIES
John, Pat, Mike, Joe, Mary, Tim, Kevin and Brian…those are the names of Kathy’s siblings…yep, very Irish and very Catholic. They are very funny people and make us laugh to the point of crying. Every year, we have a “mom pie making memorial” in honor of our mom on the night before Thanksgiving. She made the best pies like apple, pumpkin and lemon meringue. We never eat pie except for then because any other pie is just not that good! We are especially close to Kathy’s brother’s kids since they are the youngest and still think we are cool. They come over for slumber parties and we hang out at the beach or go whale watching.

Kathy is extremely close to her sister, Mary and we spend a lot of time with her and her husband, Scott. Mary is extremely excited about us adopting and is already planning all kinds of things for the new addition to our family.

Although Ron’s siblings are on the opposite coast, we see them often and visit New Jersey every few years. His sister, Lorraine and her husband Steve, have a daughter that we try to spoil from far away as much as we can…she is adorable and very bubbly.

Ron’s brother is in Florida but they talk a few times a month by phone and Ron is very proud of his ex-marine brother. He used to jump out of airplanes into hostile territories while in the service, which Kathy still cannot imagine!
