Choose A Family : Parent Profile

Leslie

Dear Birth Mom,
Thank you so much for considering me as an adoptive parent. I know you must be brave – you are making this difficult decision to ensure a positive future for your child.
My name is Leslie and more than anything I want to be a mom. I have great life that I really love – interesting work at a job I like with excellent benefits, meaningful volunteer work, good friends, lots of family and hobbies I enjoy – but I’m still missing a piece of the puzzle – a child.

My Family
I grew up in a typical suburban neighborhood with my two brothers and sister. We spent summer days at the pool a block from our house – my mother would have to drag us home for lunch – and summer nights catching fireflies, playing statue maker or having sleepovers. In our neighborhood, everyone pretty much knew everyone and with four kids in my family, there were always other kids coming and going from our house. Now I have family all over the country – but we still manage to see each other a couple of times a year.

My single sister recently adopted a four-year-old girl and I am head over heels in love with her. My brother and his wife have four great kids and my younger brother works as a train conductor. My mom and dad live in the southeast and my dad adopted me and my siblings when we were pre-school aged, so I know for sure that love is not limited to biological connections. I love my dad – he is, for sure, my dad. I have numerous aunts, uncles and cousins who live in the area and I see them several times a year. Christmas Eve at my aunt and uncle’s house is a loud, fun and joyous tradition with lots of kids. Many of my cousins have children and I look forward to seeing my children grow up with theirs. I also have an aunt and uncle who adopted my cousin and I have a half sister who I consider to be a sister, although I wasn’t raised with her. She has four children that are terrific.

My Life
In high school I was a very good student, in high level classes. I played volleyball, was a cheerleader and ran track. I went to college in the city and got my bachelor’s degree in journalism. I had a ball being in the city during that stage of my life – I would ice skate between classes and met so many interesting people. After college, I traveled around the world and taught English in Korea for a year – that was an incredible experience. I later worked as a reporter and editor and I now work in marketing and communications at a company about 30 minutes from home. I love writing, editing and using my creative skills. I feel very lucky to have found this job – it’s perfect for someone who wants to be a mom. There are flexible work hours and it’s close to home, plus plenty of days off.

When I’m not at work, I really enjoy gardening and landscaping. I take nature classes at the local arboretum and I have a nice garden where I grow vegetables and sometimes can or freeze them. I love to cook – homemade meals are the best – good and good for you! I am a real nature lover. I was a girl scout growing up and my grandmother and mother taught me to love birds and butterflies. Now I volunteer with two groups, teaching people how to create wildlife habitat in their yards. I have a real appreciation and respect for the planet and I envision teaching children all about butterflies, bugs, flowers and frogs.

I also have been swing dancing for about 10 years which is exhilarating and fun – and it’s good exercise! I don’t dance as often as I used to, but I’ve made a lot of good friends I see regularly who are now having families, too. We have BBQs and potlucks with the kids – so much fun!

Where I live
I live in the most amazing neighborhood for kids and have a wonderful, large, but rustic, three-bedroom home with a big rec room I envision filled with kid stuff. I share my home with two kitties – Stinker and Snuggles – who are wonderfully friendly and funny. My neighborhood is sort of old-fashioned – no sidewalks or streetlights, lots of mature trees, nature and wildlife. One neighbor owns two horses – I often see kids feeding them. My yard is very pretty with lots of flowers and so much wildlife: butterflies, birds, dragonflies, frogs, toads, chipmunks and rabbits. For a while there was a fox that slept in my yard and one day she brought her kit to my pond for a drink. My pond is filled with lily pads and it’s so cute when the frogs sit on them. I recently took a video of a jar of tadpoles and sent it to my niece – she loved it! I like to sit on my deck and listen to the fountain gurgle and watch birds and butterflies flit around the yard. There is a wooded area behind my house – perfect for tree climbing and exploring - and there is a jogging/biking path that runs behind my house. I see parents with strollers, pulling kids in wagons or riding with kids on bikes. I can’t wait for that to be me! I envision a child catching lightening bugs, learning about nature, running around the paths of my yard, exploring and giggling.

My neighborhood is in the most wonderful city that has a quaint downtown, a farmer’s market and many family activities, including the county fair which is just five minutes away. The school district is one of the best in the state and I specifically chose this area with children in mind.

Can’t Wait to be a Mom
I have so much love to give to a child and am prepared to give her a wonderful life filled with love, laughter and happiness. I can’t wait to be a mom and bring children into the great life I’ve created here! Although I haven’t found that terrific, loving husband to spend my life with, I still hope to find someone who will be an excellent husband and father to your children. Any child that finds her way into my arms will be loved in a way that only someone who has prayed, waited and dreamed for a child for years can love a child.

Thank you so much for considering me and I wish you luck as you move forward.

Warmly,

Leslie
