Choose A Family : Parent Profile

Meagan and Paul

Dear Birth Mother

We can't imagine how difficult it must be for you to choose the people you want to raise your child. Only you know what’s best and we hope that this letter will let you know a little bit about us so you can decide if we’re the right fit. When you come across that letter, you’ll know – embrace it and trust you did your best.

Here’s the Scoop
Paul is from the Midwest and Meg is from the East Coast but we met (and currently live) in Los Angeles. We met six year ago via on-line dating and found out that we actually lived just 2 blocks away from each other! We initially bonded over our mutual love of animals and of traveling, especially to Italy, and quickly started spending all of our time together. Almost exactly two years after we met, we got married in the San Bernardino Mountains in front of family and close friends.

Our Experience as Foster Parents:
When we met each other, we knew we were great together as a couple. We were surprised and happy to find out that we love being parents and think we are pretty good at it.

We always knew that we wanted a family and after being unsuccessful on our own, we decided to become foster parents in the hopes of adopting. We were overjoyed when an amazing two-year old little girl was placed in our home and we spent an entire year together as a family. We were extremely sad when she was returned to her biological father, but we were honored to be a part of her life and are looking forward to being parents again.

Because we’ve already experienced parenthood, we know that having a child changes your life completely. It’s not always easy, but it’s the most rewarding experience we’ve ever had.

We Love Adventures
We both love to travel and explore new places - and we are always on the lookout for good pizza wherever we go! Meg is definitely the travel planner and is always telling Paul about the long list of places she wants to visit (still on the list: Africa and Slovenia). We have been to London, France, Germany, Australia, and Mexico and our top two spots are Italy and Tahiti. Paul’s maternal grandparents were from Italy and we visited the medieval hill town outside of Rome where some of his relatives still live.

We love doing outdoor activities together like hiking, riding bikes, and snorkeling. One of our favorite experiences was swimming with sharks and rays on our honeymoon in Tahiti.

For us, every day can be an adventure and we’re so excited that we each found a partner to share the journey.

Meet Paul
When Paul was a little boy he loved making movies with the Super 8 camera he got for Christmas. And now he’s lucky enough to make movies for a living (although Paul jokes that the quality is about the same).

His hobbies include writing, kayaking, rock-climbing, and cleaning (he’s kind of a neat freak). He learned to speak Italian and enjoys reading about history and philosophy. Paul has always been artistic and Meg likes it when he draws funny pictures of the pets.

What Meg loves about Paul: his patience, honesty, intelligence, and levelheadedness.

Meet Meg

Meg must take after her mom (who works in a library) because she’s always reading! She’s been playing tennis for a long time and has recently discovered that she really enjoys running. Her parents made her take Irish-dancing lessons as a child and one day Paul hopes to actually see her in action (Meg says only of they go to Ireland).

Meg has always loved art and gets to see it up close every day because she works in an art museum. Sometimes she even gets to escort the artworks when they travel to other museums.

What Paul loves about Meg: she is laid-back, sympathetic, and fun – plus she has an infectious smile.

We Call it Home
We live in a suburb of Los Angeles that has great schools, a family-friendly vibe, and is close to the city and cultural attractions. We love that we live within walking distance to multiple parks, playgrounds, and recreation areas, including a lake, bike path, and walking trail where we take our dog Winnie almost every weekend.

Our home has a great backyard with plenty of space for kids to play along with lemon and orange trees. Paul has also grown a fantastic vegetable and herb garden in our yard and we love to make salads right from our garden.

Pets are Part of the Family
We are animal lovers and pets are an important part of our lives. We currently have an adorable beagle named Winnie and two mischievous cats, Ginger and Spike. They are great with kids and will make a wonderful companions for any new member of our family. Plus, we hope to instill in our child a love of and respect for animals.

Lost of Family & Friends
We both come from big families: Paul has six siblings and Meg has three and between us we have 28 nieces and nephews! When either of our families get together it is chaotic and lots of fun. We spend every Christmas and time in the summer visiting our families and in turn they love coming out to sunny Southern California and visiting us. Both of our families are very supportive of our decision to adopt and are so happy and excited that we will be adding a new member to our clans.

We have several close friends that are, in many ways, part of our family as well. Paul has known his best friend David since they were eight years old. They moved out to California together to work in the entertainment industry and are now partners in a successful film production company. Meg has remained close with her friends from high school and college and still loves going on girls’ weekends.

Thank You

There is nothing that we can say that will make this process any easier for you. Go with your gut instinct and if that’s us, then we would love to hear from you.
