Choose A Family : Parent Profile
Pam & Kevin
Dear Birth Mother,
Years ago a family friend planted a little seed of wisdom in our minds. She had shared her family’s story of adoption and told us, “God brings us children in all different ways”. That seed has grown in our hearts over the years and has confirmed our desire to grow our family through adoption.
We want you to know how much we admire and respect you for your tremendous courage, strength & love by making the decision to place your baby up for adoption. We cannot begin to imagine the difficult decisions you are making. Although we haven’t met yet, we have begun praying for you and your baby.
There are so many things we could share about our family – it’s hard to narrow it down. We hope this gives you a glimpse of our family & help you learn a little more about us.
Our story began in 1989 when Kevin & I were set up on a blind date by a mutual friend. Little did we know that we’d hit it off so well. We had a great connection and continued dating throughout the rest of our time in college. We were married in California, surrounded by family and friends soon after graduation in 1993.
Kevin worked with his father in the family business while I taught at a local elementary school (1st – 3rd grade). Life was good and we enjoyed spending time and continuing to build our relationship. Soon, we felt ready to start our family. Things didn’t go as easily as we had planned and our attempt in getting pregnant was a difficult one. We finally turned to fertility treatments. This was an emotional time for us that was sometimes full of hope and other times great disappointment. Looking back though we can see how God used that time in our lives to help us grow closer together and strengthen our faith in Him. Through all of the ups and downs came two wonderful blessings in our lives…our boys, Tyler (1998) and Tanner (2003).
Our Family...
Kevin and I both grew up in loving homes with families that played together and made family a priority. Our parents were always our biggest supporters and taught us the value of always doing our best. We continue to do that with our own family today. We are an active family who just enjoys spending time together. We love to go to the mountains and spend time at our family cabin with family and friends. We also love going on vacations together, exploring and playing at the beach, playing sports, working in the yard or on projects together. We are a family that laughs, plays and celebrates together as well as encourages and supports one another in the challenging times.
A little bit about Pam: (from Kevin)
Pam is a wonderful mother and wife. We are so blessed to have her be a stay-at-home mom and care for our family each day. She is an active part of the boys’ lives from helping out in their classrooms to being their biggest fan (and photographer) on the sidelines at their different events. Pam is a people person and enjoys nurturing relationships with the many incredible women God has placed in her life. She loves to read, journal and blog about our family and our daily adventures. She & I love to go to the movies and on date nights to continue keeping our marriage alive and growing. One of Pam’s favorite times of day with the boys is when they get home from school and they sit down together for a time of “snack & chat”. Her ability to show love and communicate brings us all closer as a family.
A little bit about Kevin… (from Pam)
Kevin is a wonderful husband and my best friend. He is also a great example for our boys about what a father and husband should be. He is actively involved in their lives and is really a boy at heart himself. In fact, he is usually the ring leader when it comes to having fun together. From the time the boys could walk they could be found following their dad around wanting to do anything he did. His love for sports has definitely influenced them as they too love to play….baseball, basketball, riding bikes, playing catch, wrestling, ping pong, pool, the list goes on and on. The boys really look up to him are building bonds that will last a lifetime.
A little bit about Tyler & Tanner…
Tyler is 11 years old and a great big brother. He loves school, playing sports and spending time with family and friends. He is one of those people whom others naturally gravitate towards. Tyler has a kind, genuine heart and is great with younger children. He is a good example for his younger brother. One of his favorite family activities is playing catch and spending time outside.
Tanner is 7 years old and the youngest member of our family. He loves animals, playing sports and hanging out with his big brother. He can often be found, playing with our 4 legged family members (Labrador retrievers) Molly & Kate. He makes us laugh with his quick sense of humor and sparkle in his eye. He enjoys reading and playing games. One of his favorite family activities is family movie night.
Grandparents:
We can’t talk about our family without mentioning the grandparents. We are so blessed to have both sets of grandparents living close by. They are very involved and can be found at most all of the boys’ activities. The boys enjoy spending time with them and hearing stories about mom & dad when they were young like them. We love the influence that they have in their lives and the different things they learn from each of them - playing golf with Grandma Gerry & Grandpa Keith, fishing with Grandpa Mike or playing games with Omi, just to name a few. Great grandma even gets involved playing a game of Wii bowling with the boys. We feel so blessed to have them so close and be such an active part of the boys’ lives.
A few words from Tyler & Tanner…
Our family is close and has fun together. Mom & Dad are always encouraging us in whatever we do. We have fun playing together as a family. We are excited to have a new brother or sister as an addition to our family. We know that there will be some different things around our house if we have a little sister like princesses and dolls, but that’s okay. We are already experts at boy things if we have a little brother. Either way, we are excited to teach them all sorts of things. We know that big brothers have an important job. We are looking forward to watching out for, loving them and being good role models.
A few final thoughts…
As parents we are committed to creating a loving, safe and supportive place for our children to learn and grow. A place where they are each loved unconditionally for who they are and encouraged to be their best. A family with parents who are committed to one another and creating strong family ties and values.
You can be confident that every day your child will know that they are a special blessing and addition to our family. He or she will be loved by two older brothers and a mom and a dad unconditionally. Their life will be filled with laughter, hugs and kisses, learning and playing. They will be supported and nurtured for who they are. Thank you for taking the time to get to know us. We feel very blessed to have this opportunity to share a little bit about our family and look forward to learning about you too.
