Choose A Family : Parent Profile
Peggy & Scott
Bonjour!
We are a happy, fun loving couple with open arms and a house ready to be made into a family home. We live in a nice, quiet neighborhood with good schools and nice parks within walking distance. Our support system is large with many close friends (who are starting to raise families now) and a large family of sisters, aunts, uncles and parents who are all ready and excited about being a part of our family’s life.

About Us:
We met through a mutual friend originally, but did not get together until we started seeing each other at the local Festivals. Little by little, we started talking and realized that we both loved music, good times and culture.
We love being outside. We invite friends over to boil crawfish and bar b que as often as we can. In the fall we have fires in our back yard a couple of times per week. If there is a Festival in the area (which is fairly often in our town), we are there. We have run many races (5K, 10K and half marathons) all over the country. We love traveling – we have been all over Canada together, all over the U.S., as well as the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Thailand and Europe.
We spent two summers up in Nova Scotia, Canada at a French University. Peggy taught at an Immersion program for six years and this was a great opportunity for Scott to finally learn how to speak French. This was a great experience for us, as I not only learned to speak French, but I also learned a lot about my Cajun heritage.
We continue to travel to Canada twice per year for Holidays and special occasions to see Peggy’s family. She has a large family on both sides, so our visits are always fun filled and adventurous. In the summers, we go canoeing down a beautiful river that is right outside of her home village. There is also normally a large family gathering outside on at least one of the days that we are there. The adults prepare the food and cook while the kids run around and play with each other. For our winter visits, we spend more time inside around a fire. It generally snows a lot, so when we do go outside, snow mobiles are a popular source of entertainment. The obvious sport of choice during this time is Hockey and there is a big family tournament every year between Christmas and new year’s. We always go to watch the family team play (they haven’t won yet, but I’m sure they will one of these years).

About Scott:
I was born in New Orleans, but moved to Lafayette, LA when I was four years old. I was always active in sports – I played baseball, soccer and basketball while I was growing up and continue to pay softball every week, even now. I also joined my school band in the fifth grade. I continued all the way through high school, where I was part of an amazing band that was 230 members strong. We traveled all over the country playing everything from concerts in Virginia Beach to the Rose Bowl Parade in Pasadena, California. I ended up making the All State Honor band my senior year and earned a music scholarship for college.
A couple of years into my college career, I decided to open up a drum shop. I ran this business while earning my IT degree. By the time I graduated, I had also started a music school for kids.
I still have both the drum shop and music school. I have a great group of people that I work with and have a blast every day. At the drum shop we bring in guest artists from all around the world to play and talk about drumming. At the school, we have over 300 students, starting at age 4. We each private music lessons and do big summer music camps every year. It is an amazing feeling to be able to make a living while also teaching music and influencing so many kids’ lives at the same time.

About Peggy:
I was born and raised in a very small village (population of 1500) in the foothills of the Appalachians, in the French speaking part of New Brunswick, Canada. There is one small town about 15 kilometers away from my hometown, and nothing else for at least another hour drive. It is beautiful up there and we go at least twice a year to visit.
I grew up playing music. I started playing piano at age 6 and continued all the way through my senior year. I taught private piano lessons during my high school years and my first working years. I was also involved in local churches, either singing in the choir, directing the choir, or accompanying the choir during my high school years and whenever I could during my college years. When I moved back to my hometown after my college years, I played for local churches until I moved to Louisiana.
I went to a French university in Canada and majored in Biology and Biochemistry. I got my science degree and then went on to get a teaching degree and taught high school science in Canada for six years.
I came down to Louisiana in 1999 to teach French for the CODOFIL program. Louisiana has a strong French heritage and our roots are directly linked to the part of Canada that I am from. I taught in the French Immersion program in Louisiana during the school year and traveled to Nova Scotia every summer to teach at a French University. I did this for six years and was then promoted to be the coordinator of foreign language studies for the school board, where I currently work.

One of the biggest things that we are excited about is raising bilingual, multicultural children. Scott grew up only speaking English and had to learn his second language as an adult, which is very difficult. Peggy was raised in a bilingual household and Scott is envious. Since we have been together, Scott has been fortunate enough to make two trips every year to Canada. He has been to all parts of Canada from Vancouver in the far West to Montreal, Ottawa, all over New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. He has grown to not only appreciate how beautiful the land is in Canada, but also the people. There are many different cultures to appreciate and our children will be able to grow up experiencing the mild summers on the pristine Kedgwick River and also the snowy winters of the Appalachians while living in our sportsman’s paradise down south. The whole time he / she will be raised with not only two languages but also an appreciation for two complex cultures that are tied together by a common ancestry.
