Choose A Family : Parent Profile
Ron and Charla
Dear Birth Mother,
We are so excited to introduce ourselves to you and are thrilled that you are considering us to be the parents of your child. We can hardly wait to begin the journey with you and are so grateful that you decided to take this step. We admire your courage and understand that it takes a leap of faith to give your child this opportunity to grow up in a loving and supportive family. This act of love will never be forgotten.

How We Met
Our mutual love of Dodger baseball brought us together in 2002. Fate was looking down on us that day and we have been inseparable ever since. After a whirlwind 6 years together, Ron tied a diamond ring to a candy cane stuffed in Charla’s Christmas stocking and proposed marriage on Christmas Eve of 2007. We married in June, 2008 in the backyard garden of the house we bought together. It was a very intimate ceremony surrounded by our family and friends, complete with a string quartet and butterfly release. Every time we hear Canon in D, we both proclaim “That’s our wedding song!”
We found each other fairly late in life, so we feel that our best option to have a family is through adoption. We are anxious to complete our family and share our hearts and home with your beautiful child. All of our friends and family are so excited and supportive and can’t wait to welcome your child into our family.
About Charla
I was adopted by the most tremendous parents anyone could hope for. My folks, Charlene and Wilbur gave me the foundation and support to allow me to stand on my own, as well as giving me a wonderful childhood. Growing up in rural Iowa, when I was about 8 I wanted a pony. My Mom told me, “If you have the money, you can buy it”. Boy was she surprised when I took my $20 savings and came home with a pony from my neighbor’s farm.
My childhood and high school years were spent being active in sports, clubs, Girl Scouts, service organizations and the school band, even being chosen to play alto clarinet in the Iowa All-State Band two years running.
I also loved hanging out with my three best friends, Julia, Michele and Leslie. I never spent a weekend without one of them at my house or me at theirs. After college, the 4 of us scattered to each end of the United States but remained as close as ever. They were my bridesmaids at my wedding, and we get together every chance we get, even planning a mini reunion this 4th of July.
My parents were married 57 years until my Dad passed away in 2007. My Mom still lives in the house I grew up in and we talk and catch up every day. She is so very anxious to become a Grandma and can’t wait to love and spoil her only grandchild.
I attended Truman State University in Kirksville, MO, majoring in Business Education and Economics. Being adventurous at heart, following college graduation, I hopped a plane with one suitcase and moved to Los Angeles to begin my career. I have worked the past 20 years in banking and am currently a vice president in the credit administration department of a local bank.
When I met Ron, I knew right away that he was something special. I have never met a kinder or more compassionate person who always knows the right thing to do and say. I love spending time with Ron because we love to do the same things and have so much in common. He always knows what to do to get me to crack a smile and progress into a full blown laughing fit. His heart is so full of love. Both of us want to share that love and complete our family with a child.
About Ron
I was born in East Los Angeles and grew up in the suburbs of the San Gabriel Valley, the youngest of five children. In addition to my two brothers and two sisters, my immediate family includes many nieces and nephews and has even extended to two great nephews and one great niece.
Even though my father passed away when I was a year old, I always felt that I was very fortunate to have a mother who always gave me and my brothers and sisters unconditional love—a gift that I hope to one day pass on to a child of my own. My mother had four other kids under the age of 10 when my father passed away, and despite this, I have vivid memories of her taking the time to read me a bedtime story every night. My favorite story was Dr. Seuss’s “Are You My Mother?”.
My childhood years also left me with a deep faith in God. During my teen years, I sang in the youth choir of our church and even went on tour in the Southwest United States.
After graduating high school, I enlisted in the United States Air Force and served my country for 16 years. During my career, I was stationed in many different countries, including Turkey, the Netherlands, Spain and Germany. When I wasn’t working, I enjoyed absorbing the local culture and trying new foods. Memorable trips were to Berlin, Germany, before the fall of the Berlin Wall, London, and Paris. After nearly 10 years in Europe, I relocated to Merced, California to finish my career. In 1995, I retired from the Air Force and moved back to Southern California. For the past 10 years, I have been working in my second career as a computer programmer.
Charla is the most caring and considerate person I’ve ever met. She is always thinking of others. Charla has shown me so much love—I thank God every day we found each other. Having Charla in my life has made me a better person! I know Charla will make an excellent mother.

Us, Together
We spend all of our free time together and enjoy traveling, movies, music, laughing at each other and just hanging out at home. We both have a tremendous love of our country and spend most of our vacations learning about the history and natural beauty of our great nation. We especially loved visiting Sedona, AZ and the Grand Canyon, as well as Chicago, Washington D.C. and New York City. Of course Ron’s favorite part of our New York trip was attending the game at Yankee Stadium! Our honeymoon was spent on Maui.
Our most recent adventure was an “Amazing Race” style competition where we raced against 12 other teams, solving clues and puzzles along Olvera Street and Union Station in downtown Los Angeles. We had a blast figuring out the puzzles while learning about the history of LA. We also got to partake in one of our other favorite activities – exploring LA by metro train.
We can’t wait to view the world through our child’s eyes and share new experiences and adventures with him or her.
Home
We live in a wonderful community about 50 miles north of Los Angeles and only 10 miles away from the beach. We enjoy taking walks around our neighborhood which includes a distinguished elementary and middle school located on the same street just around the corner from our house. In addition, a brand new library with a life-sized pirate ship in the children’s section recently opened. The newest addition to the Cal State University system opened their campus just a few miles down the road. A 20-acre park is located across the street from our house filled with families watching their kids play soccer and softball.

Hobbies
Being a part of the military community, we have access to a virtually private beach on a nearby naval base and love spending time there spotting wildlife and playing on the sand. We also enjoy trips to the mountains to play in the snow – a typical Southern California lifestyle – going to the beach on Saturday and going to the snow on Sunday – all in January!
Charla enjoys gardening, crafts, reading true crime stories and John Grisham novels and trying new recipes. She has the tallest gladiolas on the block and loves to tend to her back yard garden and showing off her lilac bushes.
Ron tinkers with his computers and gadgets and is always exploring ways to tweak and update our home computers and entertainment systems. Charla always calls him her computer nerd, but feels lucky that he can fix just about anything computer-related. He also enjoys reading spy novels and war stories. One of his favorite activities is to play catch. He’s always looking for a neighborhood kid to toss the ball around with.
We love sports! We make an annual trek to Kansas City, MO to watch the Kansas City Chiefs football team and attend as many Dodger games as we can, even seeing them in Washington D.C. and Colorado. Our dream is to attend every Dodger game in every National League ballpark—well, maybe this is Ron’s dream!
We both had a hand in designing our recently remodeled bathroom. We had a blast picking out the tile, tub, paint and designing the accent tile in the shower. We both are very compassionate about animals and we miss our 10 year old Golden Retriever, Max, who recently passed away.
Bringing Up Baby
We plan to parent equally, rearing our child with a strong believe in God. It is our hope and desire to teach our child to be self-reliant and charitable towards others and we will take an active role in his or her education. No matter what, we will be loving and supportive parents in whatever endeavor our child desires. We are financially secure and have enough work flexibility to meet all of our child’s needs. In addition, as Ron is a USAF retiree, our child will always have health insurance coverage.

Ron & Charla Trivia
23 years before the day we met, our lives crossed paths. Charla was 15 and Ron was 18. Charla went to Colorado Springs on her high school band trip to visit the U.S. Air Force Academy. Unbeknownst to her, Ron had recently arrived at the Academy for his first duty assignment in the Air Force. Ron’s office overlooked the Academy Chapel where Charla was visiting. Little did they know that they would visit those same grounds as husband and wife 30 years later.
We wish you the best of luck and we pray that you are guided to the choices that are right for you. We thank you for considering us as parents to your precious baby.
Best Wishes,
Ron & Charla
