So, Who Are We?
We are Aaron and Sarah. We are an Army family. Sarah is from North Carolina and Aaron is from Tennessee. We met at church the summer of 2006. Four short months later, in November, we were married. The moment we started talking we just clicked. It was amazing how much we had in common and how our individual senses of humor complimented each others. We were inseparable from the start. Others knew that we were together before we did. Once we both knew that we were in love, we wasted no time getting married. We have a wonderful marriage based on a deep love and respect for each other, and our faith.
Together we have built a wonderful life ready for a little one to be brought into. When work doesn’t get in the way we spend all of our time having fun together. It can be playing video games linked via internet with Aaron’s brothers in TN or taking the dogs for a walk. We even cook together. We try to make everyday full of fun and laughter. We can take off and go scuba diving or mountain climbing, or simply go in the backyard to roast marshmallows over the fire pit.
We both like to cook, sometimes even together. Aaron loves having people over so that they can try his fully loaded spaghetti. Sarah is more into surprising people by bringing them freshly baked bread and homemade jelly or other delicious baked treats. There are no really simple meals in our home. Aaron will ask for something simple like cereal, but Sarah will never do that. In Sarah’s mind simple is something like waffles, eggs, turkey sausage and fruit.
We do have a guilty pleasure, TV. Not necessarily cable, but we do have two big screen LCD TVs mounted on the wall side-by-side in the living room. That way even if one of us wants to play a game and the other wants to watch TV, we do not have to be apart.
We are funny and outgoing. We love living everyday to the fullest.
Our Work
By Aaron: I am in the US Army and have been doing this job for 9 years now. I work in a small company where the guys I work with are more like family then work associates. The guys I work with are always having BBQs and get together so the families can get hank out and socialize. At work I am known for being hard working and taking care of my soldiers. My company leadership is very supportive of families and willing to give me time to take care of mine because they know that a great support structure at home makes for a great soldier.
With my job it gives us the opportunity to travel all around the world and see places that normally I would never have thought to go. With the military I have lived in Germany and Korea and learned about their cultures and great foods. I hope to be able to share these wonderful places with my family as I continue my career.
The wives have what’s called a FRG or Family Readiness Group. In the FRG the wives and children get together to do fun activities and generally give each other support when their husbands are gone doing training or deployments.
By Sarah: I do not work right now. I love being able to stay home and make sure that the house is taken care of. I am able to have dinner ready when Aaron comes home from work. I know that it will be even more beneficial when a child is in the picture. I will be able to give 24/7 care and constant attention to our little bundle of blessings.
Before we moved I was a substitute teacher for a few years. It was great working with children of all different ages. It was also a perfect way to work when I wanted to and not be punished if I wanted to take a day off. So, when Aaron gets a day off, I get the day off too.
As a substitute I tried to get all of the training that I could. I took an Effective Teacher Training course that helped me learn how to work with children of all ages, as well as to help them with any scholastic questions they may have. I also took an Abuse Awareness Course. It taught me how to watch for signs of abuse, how to talk to a child about abuse and to help in anyway I could. I was always looking for a way to be a more efficient teacher and to be sure that I could help and protect children to the best of my ability.

Home Sweet Home
We have just bought our very first home in El Paso, Texas. Our home is a 4 bedroom, 1 loft, 3 bath house with a 2 car garage. We have a large back yard that we can go out and play with the dogs in. We are working at landscaping the backyard, since this is a new house and came with just a dirt lot. We already have the fire pit that will be the focal point of the yard. It is a great and warm social spot for friends and family.
In our home we are always looking for ways to make our home better. Our home is an Energy Star home which we furnished with top of the line Energy Star appliances. Aaron is always building handcrafted furniture; such as our bed frame, headboard, and bookcases. He is already planning building the furniture for our blessed adopted one. Sarah is the one in this house who keeps everything organized and decorated.
We live close to people that go the our church. They are great people that are always willing to help each other. It is nice to know that we will always have people near by that we know and trust.
We did just move into this house, but already have made instant friends with our neighbors. They have already saved our dogs when they busted out of the back yard when we were out grocery shopping. They even invited us over for Christmas dinner. We just seem to have a really friendly neighborhood.
About Sarah by Aaron
When I first met Sarah we sat around and talked and joked for hours. She has a great sense of humor and loves to laugh. When she laughs she lights up the whole world. She knew before I did that we were meant for each other. She is great with children; if it’s goofing around with her sisters little girls or hanging out with my sister and her two girls.
Sarah has a great sense of excitement and is always open to trying new things. Since I have known her we have gone scuba diving several times and I have been teaching her to ride a motorcycle. We have gone horseback riding and down to Myrtle Beach in South Carolina a couple of times.
She loves her family very much and her grandparents hold a special place in her heart. Her grandparents raised her and she calls them every week just to talk and tell them she loves them. I know that she has a large capacity for love and that any child that comes into our life will know nothing but the love and nurturing of a devoted mother.
Sarah is a great cook and loves to bake. I know she got that love from her grandfather who was a chef in the Army. Every time we go to a BBQ or a get together she is always making something special. And for the record her cooking ROCKS!!! I know I wasn’t eating this well before I knew her.
I can’t help but want to spend every second with her. If playing games with friends or lounging around watching movies or shows together. She is my best friend. She even wanted to get a second X box 360 so she could sit down and play video games with me and my brothers online when we have our lazy days.
I know that there was no one else that I wanted to be with more than her and that there is no one else I would ever want to have a family with.

We Are Family by Sarah
I grew up in a very full house. For most of my life I lived with my grandparents in their home with my mother, sister, aunt and her four girls. There were years where even other uncles and aunts would move in with their children when they were having hard times. Our family has always been very supportive.
My Papa (grandfather) has always been my rock. He has been there for me through everything. My mother got divorced when I was a baby and then worked so much that she was really never there. My Papa is the one person growing up that was always there and still is to this day. He taught me how to cook and clean, which are teachings that as a wife I am so thankful for. He taught me how to value myself as a woman and that good taste never goes out of style.
My grandparents have been married for 53 years and living with them has shown me how a strong marriage is formed and maintained. My grandma keeps my Papa on track as well as the house. She has taught me how to be a strong and independent woman. She pays the bills and fixes things around the house when they need to be.
They have set such a wonderful and strong example of what I want to be like and what kind of marriage Aaron and I need.
I am also very close to my sister. We weren’t always, but what sisters are. We talk or text everyday. It is a good thing that I have unlimited long distance calling cause I call my family so much.
Thanks to blogs and Facebook all of my family keeps in touch regularly. It is a great way to keep each other updated about our lives and see how we all have grown. We also have 3 annual family reunions. One is for my grandparents and their descendants at Myrtle Beach. Lately it has turned into an even bigger affair with another side of our family joining us for the week. Then we have 2 more reunions for each of my grandparents sides’. My grandmothers side has theirs in NC at a local park by my grandparents’ home. My grandfathers side has theirs in FL.
Family is truly one of the most important things in my life.

Aaron Through Sarah’s Eyes
When I met Aaron I wanted him to ask me our more than anything. Sadly, he was very blind when it came to my advances. I finally had to hunt down his phone number through the churches records by calling every Aaron (and there are a lot of Aarons in our church) till I got him and asked him out myself. He has made all of my hard work and embarrassing wrong numbers totally worth it.
He has a sense of humor that keeps my tummy in stitches from laughing so much. He is just a big goof ball. His nieces love when their Uncle Aaron comes to visit because he spends all of the time just making them laugh.
Aaron also lives to make others happy. He brings me roses all of the time just to brighten my day. He also loves to surprise me by making a meal when I am busy doing something else. He has often enough volunteered us to watch some ones children so that they could get out for a while and go on a date.
One thing that attracted me to Aaron was his sense of adventure. He has a motorcycle and jumped out of planes, which showed me that he was a thrill seeker and lived every day to the fullest.
He also loves the outdoors. When he came home for R&R during his first deployment after we were married he took me scuba diving and camping. He just lit up being outside and one with nature. He loves just going for long walks with no destination in mind.
I love that Aaron takes so much pride in what he does. His fellow soldiers always talk about what a great leader he is how he goes beyond the call with everything that he does. He is always trying to do his best. Whether he is trying to work some kind of deal to get his men more training supplies or giving up sleep so that he can train them in every scenario, he never gives less than 150%.
As if working a job that asks for so much, he is always giving more. He recently volunteered to help with the Boy Scout program, offering his time to train the boys in archery. Aaron is just completely selfless.
The best thing about Aaron, and it is hard to choose just one, is his enormous heart. He shows me everyday his unconditional love for me. I see everyday how much he cares for others. I know that he is going to be a wonderful father some day and that he will show the same unconditional love to our children.

Families Are Forever by Aaron
I grew up as the oldest of eight children. I don’t think there has been a time when I haven’t been around children. My father was in the Army so we traveled around the world. As a child I had the opportunity to live in Germany for eight and a half years. While we lived there my family took every opportunity we could to see all of Europe. I had the chance to visit Berlin, Paris, and Austria while we were there. That was an unbelievable experience that was for a young boy.
My parents have always been there for me whenever I needed them. Now, I still call my parents to let them know I love them and to let them know what’s going on in mine and Sarah’s life. I respect my parents very much and I am thankful for them having taught me to work hard and have values in everything I do. I was stationed at a base near my sister and her husband. I was able to go visit them and their two beautiful girls all the time.
We used to take the girls to see the zoo all of the time. Once a year, for a week, in North Carolina they recreate the land of Oz for people to come and visit. We took the girls there and they even dressed up as Dorothy from the wizard of Oz. In fact I used my sister and her two girls to help me propose to Sarah. I invited Sarah over for a homemade dinner and I had drawn these pictures saying “Marry” and “Me” each surrounded by pictures of birds, butterflies and flowers. When she walked in the door I gave the signal and Jenna and Kaley came running into the room carrying the pictures and gave them to Sarah one at a time. Sarah though my sister was the one pushing us to get married..Ouch!! When Sarah turned around I was on my knee with a ring and I asked her if she would marry me. Thank goodness she said yes. We all still laugh about that day. After we were married we moved into a home that was three houses down from my sister. We used to go over there for games and movies and Sarah used to scrapbook with my sister all the time. Now they talk on the phone for hours and hours and hours like the best of friends. It’s great.
My dad now teaches at Austin Peay State University while my mother has always been a stay at home mom. They have always been very welcoming and open to others. I love the way my parents just opened up and accepted Sarah from the first time they met her. My mom just loves talking to Sarah about scrap booking and sharing pictures over their blog sites.
My family is planning a trip on a Disney Cruise ship for the summer of 2011. It is kind of hard to get together all the time when you have family spread out from North Carolina to California. We are excited at the thought of finally being able to have a child to share these experiences with.

Our Furbabies
We have 3 beautiful dogs that we have adopted. Our first adopted puppy is Sierra. She is a black and white lab mix. She was running with a wild pack of dogs on Fort Bragg, NC. When we first saw her it was love. We were told that she was just caught and that we would have to wait another week for her testing to be finished. We came back as soon as we could and took her home. She is a total Daddy’s girl. She is very loving and hyper. She will jump in Aaron’s lap when he is playing the drums on Rock Band and try to play too. She is smart too. She has learned that when she around kids to just sit and let them pet her.
When we moved to Fort Polk, LA we met another couple who just adopted a puppy. Their dog was so adorable. Sierra loved playing with him which made us decide that we needed to get her a permanent companion. We went the next day to the pound and saw the litter that the other couple had chosen their dog from. It turned out that their entire litter had been abandoned on the side of the highway in a box. We chose a boy this time. That is how we got Jack, a blood hound mix. He has gotten so big now. He loves to be loved. He is the most relaxed out of our pups. He loves to lay at the foot of the couch and stretch out to bask in the sunlight.
Our third furbaby is Zeus. He is a Chihuahua that originally belonged to a couple that we used to hang out with. The previous owner wanted another Chihuahua for a playmate for her first one. As soon as she got Zeus she found out that she was pregnant and no longer wanted him. Very early one morning we got a call saying that she was going to through him away if we didn’t take him because she didn’t feel like she had the time for him. Sarah drove over there right away and Zeus has been her dog ever since. He follows her around constantly. He lives to be in her lap and give her loving for belly rubs in return.
I know that some people just stick their dogs outside and leave them there, but not us. Our dogs are our children. They are outside for some of the day to get exercise and use the bathroom, but then they come inside and cuddle up with us on the couch. We take them for walks regularly one on one so they get individual attention. They are simply the most loving dogs.
Why we have Chosen To Adopt
We have always loved children. Sarah has the most nurturing soul. She has known from the get go that she wanted to be mother. Aaron is a born father. He was absolutely born to be around children. Together we know that we will be great parents.
After having four miscarriages we started to have testing done to see why we couldn’t seem to carry full term. We both had plenty of testing of all types. Sarah had to have two surgeries to see what kind of physical reasons there were. That is how we found out that Sarah just cannot carry a baby. After we had 3 rounds of fertility treatments fail, we were done.
It was sad when we gave up on having a baby naturally, but we knew that no matter what that we were going to have children. We did not wait one month from the time that our last cycle of fertility treatment failed to start the adoption process. We know that we will be great parents no matter where the child came from. We are so excited at the thought that we will finally be parents. Actually, we have noticed that since we have filled out the paperwork to start this process that we have been even happier.
We both know that we were meant to do this. We were meant to help give a child in need a good loving home.
