Choose A Family : Parent Profile
Steve and Karen
Dear Expectant Mother,
We want to thank you for taking the time to read our letter. We respect the difficult decision you are making. We want you to know that should you choose us, your child will receive all the love and support they need to live a healthy and fulfilling life. Nothing will ever come before your child’s needs. It will be our mission to let them know always that they are loved, they are cared for and to always encourage them to work hard and pursue their dreams. It is our dream to have a child and to become a complete family and if you choose us, you will be granting us the greatest gift possible and we will never ever take that for granted—for us or for the child!
About Us…
We met in a very magical way…on the Internet! But the experience has been amazing. When we first met in person six years ago, there was an instant chemistry between us. We both went home that night excited at the thought of seeing each other again. We were each amazed at how easy it was to talk about everything from the serious to the absurd. Now, we love going to concerts, movies and going on long walks together. We have found that it doesn’t matter what we do, as long as we get to do it together we can make it fun.
We were married in July of 2007 and moved to a small town outside of Los Angeles because we knew it would be a great place to raise a child. We bought a townhome and have turned it into a warm, cozy home for ourselves and our dog and cat, Hutch and Dax. We are both looking forward to filling our home with the love and laughter of a child.

About Karen by Steve -
Karen is quite honestly the sweetest most loving, and giving person that I have ever known. I’ve always been impressed with the way she is around other people and the way she listens to their stories and what is happening in their lives. She cares. She is also amazing with children and knows how to talk to kids without ever being condescending. She is sociable, friendly and a complete joy to be around always. I know Karen will be a great parent quite simply because she cares so much about things. She is very passionate and will love your child unconditionally. She will always put your child ahead of everything else.
KAREN IS AMAZINGLY OPEN ABOUT THINGS. When I first met her, one of the first things she said to me was “you know I’m incredibly comfortable with bodily functions” which is perfect for dealing with dirty diapers.
She loves the move “THE PRINCESS BRIDE” so much so you would swear it might be the only movie she’s ever seen. (She can quote it almost word for word)!
STEVE SPILLS THE BEANS…ALL ABOUT KAREN
About Karen by Karen
I could never figure why I had to go to any and all superhero movies on opening day or why I secretly taped and watched the Powerpuff Girls cartoon. Then, one day, Steve unlocked the mystery for me by saying those three magic words, “You’re a geek.” From that fateful day on, my life has never been the same. I now relish in all things geek (I even shop at a store called Think Geek sometimes!) And, just for the record, Batman is my favorite superhero. I have since discovered the wonders of comic books (I really love the Batman and the Powerpuff Girls comic books). When I am not reading a comic book or standing in a movie line, I am doing a number of other activities.
I love doing anything with Steve. We can be found watching one of our favorite TV shows, taking a walk with our loyal dog, Hutch, getting in the car (with Hutch, of course) to hiking or just spending time with family. I have also recently taken up sewing because I had an overwhelming desire to make curtains for the kitchen window. Now I enjoy making little clothes for my friends’ children or making clothes for myself or Steve. I am looking forward to the day when I make clothes for our child. I love to cook and am always looking for tasty and healthy meals to cook for the family. I’ve even already been downloading baby food recipes.
Finally, I am a bookworm! I love to read and have great child memories of reading with my mom. I am looking forward to reading to our own child and creating our own memories of learning and happiness.

About Steve by Karen
KAREN TELLS ALL…ABOUT STEVE
I knew Steve was wonderful the moment I met him. He is smart, funny, kind and honest. Each one of those qualities is admirable, but when one person encompasses all of them then that person is nothing short of SPECTACULAR. Which Steve is. He says he is shy, but he really isn’t. People enjoy talking to him and often go to him for advice and encouragement (I know I do). He is amazing with children of all ages. He can play hide and seek with his young nephews in Kentucky and transition to talking to my preteen and teen cousins about books and music with such ease.
OH, AND THEN THERE IS HIS MUSIC! He loves and appreciates music in a way I think few people truly do. He takes excellent care of his vast CD collection. If I want to listen to a CD, he likes to burn a copy of it because he doesn’t like the CD’s to leave their “special place” on the shelf.
Steve thinks he doesn’t have any funny habits or idiosyncrasies, but I’m here to tell you that he does. I think of them as part of who he is and add to his incredibleness (is that a word?). I also like to call him “Grandma” because he’s the one at family gatherings that always has eyes on the little ones. He likes to always make sure they are OK and safe.
About Steve by Steve
I have done a long of different things in my life before doing the job that I do now.
I was a Disc Jockey for a college radio station in Kentucky. I have promoted concerts, worked in a sandwich shop, unloaded boxes for UPS, worked for state government, and designed websites, among other things. I have also has performed stand-up comedy at the Comedy Store somewhat successfully (available now on youtube!) and have run 4 marathons and am training to run my 5th.
I am also a movie and music geek. I grew up reading comic books and sometimes still do. I love going to movies and concerts. I love all things involving light sabers, phasers, rings that make you invisible and anything that involves superpowers. I am also very passionate about my writing. Some of my dreams when I become a parent is taking our kid to see the latest animated movie, or to a concert!

The people who love us just the way we are: OUR FAMILIES
Steve has a very large extended family back home in Kentucky. His mother has four sisters and a brother all of whom had kids too (which means lots and lots of cousins!). He also has a sister who has four boys. He keeps in touch with his family on a regular basis and tries to go back home at least once a year to see them. One of the things that Steve enjoys is just spending time with the family back home, visiting and laughing with them about growing up in Kentucky.
Karen also has a very large extended family that all live here in the greater Los Angeles area. Her father has three sisters and they all had children (more cousins!). They see each other often and love catching up with each other at family gatherings.
Karen talks to her mom and dad (who are divorced and remarried) on a regular basis. She sees her father, Allan, and brother (also named Steve) at least twice a month for their traditional Sunday breakfast. She talks to her mom on a daily basis and they see each other often.
Everyone on both sides of the family is looking forward to meeting and loving the newest member of our family.
WHAT WE DO WHEN WE’RE NOT HAVING FUN… OUR WORK!
During the week, Steve works at a homeless shelter for teens in Hollywood. He helps raise money for the organization by writing newsletters and other materials. He works with the youth often and finds the job to be incredibly rewarding. On the weekends, Steve is an aspiring TV and film writer. He has written several screenplays and has received a lot of recognition for his work. Now if only he could get one made into a film! Karen is a 5th grade teacher at an elementary school in the Los Angeles School District. She has also taught kindergarten, 1st grade and 2nd grade. Karen loves working with kids and gets a great deal of fulfillment from what she does. Since Karen is a teacher, she will have lots of time to spend with a child as well as attend special events when the child is older.
Karen loves her job and believes very much in working hard at what she does but her real passion is family and having a child to raise. Steve considers himself a screenwriter who has a day job to pay the bills but he does enjoy his job and takes a great deal of pride the work he does. They both believe that any job worth doing is worth doing well—especially when it comes to being parents!
WHERE WE LIVE
We own and live in a two-bedroom townhome in a gated community with our loveable dog, Hutch and our crazy cat, Dax. (Both are extremely affectionate and playful!) We have already set aside the second bedroom for a baby’s room. In the back, we have a small yard that’s where we barbecue and there’s even space for a kiddie pool! We are also walking distance from paths that extend throughout the entire valley. It is possible to walk or bike to the movies, to dinner, or to the store without setting foot on a street. We believe it’s a perfect location to raise a child and we plan on making our home the perfect home for a child. In fact, we chose to live here specifically because we knew it would be a great place to raise a child. Our community is very child and family orientated with lots of sports and community activities. We love where we live and plan on being here for a very long time.
A WINDOW INTO OUR THOUGHTS ON PARENTING
ABOUT KAREN BY STEVE: Karen works with kids every day. She has a special gift for talking to and relating to kids. They respect her and listen to her. She in turn always shows respect back and genuinely cares about them.
BY KAREN: I dream of being the perfect parent. In my dream, the child is never dirty, always polite, and never says the wrong thing at the wrong time. However, in real life I know that child and I are human and will make mistakes. But I know the mistakes will be part of the fun. I can’t wait to learn and grow with the child every single day!
ABOUT STEVE BY KAREN: Steve has always loved playing with kids (perhaps he relates to them a little too much!) Whenever he is back home in Kentucky he is always the first to play with his younger cousins. He also loves his four nephews, and enjoys playing with them as well.
BY STEVE: I am looking forward to sharing my passion for music and the movies. I can’t wait to take the child to animated movies and then one day, to take them to concerts. However, if the child doesn’t like the same things, that’s going to be okay too. I believe very firmly in encouraging the child to pursue his/her own dream and doing what they are passionate about. If they are a big sports fan (I’m not) I will be there for every single game to cheer the child on and let them know that I am behind them in everything thing they do!
We believe that the best way to raise a child is through love, honesty, rewards/consequences and encouragement. We will always make the child feel loved. We will also encourage the child to pursue their dream and make sure that they know that all dreams can come true through hard work, a little luck, and never quitting. WE WANT THE CHILD TO HAVE AN OPEN MIND AND PLAN ON DOING EVERYTHING TO BROADEN THE CHILD’S HORIZONS AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE SO THEY GROW UP TO BE A HAPPY AND LOVING INDIVIDUAL.
