Choose A Family : Parent Profile
Tara and Steve
We want to thank you for your incredible unselfishness in choosing adoption and for your time in considering our letter. We are two people who are very much in love and wish to love a child of our own. We look forward to getting to know you and exploring the opportunity to share an important part of our lives with you.

Steve and I have lived almost every dream any couple could hope for. We are deeply in love, have families we adore, life-long friendships we cherish, and successful, fulfilling careers. We have had the opportunity to explore the world and have had exciting and unique experiences. We have created a life with emotional and financial security. We know having a child will be our most important and rewarding experience!
We love to seek new experiences, try new foods, and travel. We have traveled to India, Europe, China, and Africa. Some of our favorite travels, however, are to our vacation home in California wine country or our cabin on Lake Martin, Alabama. We also love to read, talk about politics, cook, and spend time with our families. We grew up in small towns where we learned the importance of hard work and a love for everything outdoors, from fishing to skiing to simply exploring and hiking in the mountains. Although we don’t watch much television, we both like the Daily Show with John Stewart and Tara even got Steve to watch the Amazing Race (which we think we could win !!).

TARA, AS STEVE SEES HER ...
I love and respect Tara immensely. She’s my best friend and a friend to everyone she meets. She is loving and nurturing to her six nieces and nephews. She feels deeply about doing the right thing and is frankly a real softie at heart (crying during “Oprah’s Big Give”). When we are not traveling, having fun sailing or playing golf, she loves to be outside running or hiking with our dog Ralph, a constant companion for 12 years. Tara is very close to her family. She loves to hunt and fish with her father, she speaks to her sister and her two nieces almost every day and regularly e-mails her brother, who is deployed as a National Guard commander in Afghanistan.

STEVE, FROM TARA'S PERSPECTIVE ...
There are so many reasons that I love Steve, including his kindness and intelligence. I love the fact that he makes me laugh and there is no one else I would want to spend time with. Steve has a successful and fulfilling career in business development, his background is in Engineering. He is the one who does all of our home “projects” from repairing the well pump at our vacation house to assembling our new BBQ. Steve is the person at work and in his family that everyone looks up to and from whom they seek support and advice. I’m amazed at all the things Steve is good at and I have learned so much from him. He has lived all over the world from Saudi Arabia to Scotland, is a scuba diver and avid sailor.

FAMILY
Between the two of us, we have 11 nieces and nephews. Tara’s sister, Dawn, is her best friend and, accordingly, she is very close to Dawn’s daughters Rylie 12 and Emily 10. From the time Rylie and Emily were infants they would spend weekends at Tara’s house. When Emily was 4 she asked Tara why some kids, “only have a mom and we have a mom and an Auntie Tara.” Steve has 5 nieces and nephews and a new great-nephew, the first in his family with the excitement that one would expect from this milestone. Steve often cared for his sister’s children in every circumstance one could imagine, from school homework to vacations to sports and work.
PRIORITIES
We know that simply spending time with our child will be important. No matter how busy we are, we always take time to cook and sit down to dinner. And, we spend time during the week and on weekends to simply talk, go for walks, or take Ralph swimming at the lake. We know that once we have a child, we will want to increase the time we spend being a family and enjoying how lucky we are. We will instill core values and beliefs that give a child a solid foundation for development of their own personality and moral compass. We will provide a safe, structured environment that will promote leaning experiences and encourage freedom of thought.
OUR HOME
Our home in Erie is in a fantastic location. It is a historic home that has been completely
remodeled with a nice yard for Ralph, which I'm sure he'd be happy to share. It is a short
walk from both a wonderful city park and Lake Erie. The park has a creek where we can fish in the evening and where all the neighborhood kids sled in the winter. The lake allows us to take Ralph for a swim or enjoy our sailboat within minutes from the house. It is very much a "neighborhood" where folks stop by, walk their dogs, organize flag football, and share coffee at the local coffee house. The home is on a very quiet street. The only traffic is that of the residents.

OUR COMMITMENT
