Travis & Hernan

Hi there!
Thank you so much for reading our letter. We’re Travis and Hernan, and would love nothing more in the world than to have more children. You may wonder what it would be like for a child to have two dads. But think about it this way – you will be his or her only mom, and two dads are better than one!

We live in a comfy 3 bedroom house in a quiet and safe neighborhood of Los Angeles, surrounded by trees and plants– we even have a backyard with a lemon tree! It almost feels like it’s in the middle of the woods, except that you can see the skyscrapers from the living room. We chose the neighborhood because of the elementary school district – it’s called Wonderland School, who wouldn’t want to go? It’s been featured on CNN as one of the best ones in the country.

We both grew up in small towns – Travis in Newark, Ohio, and Hernan in the suburbs of Buenos Aires, Argentina – and after a lot of hard work we ended up doing very well for ourselves. Travis is a Surgeon at a hospital called Cedars Sinai (yes, the one that’s on the news every time there is a celebrity). Hernan is so relieved to have a doctor in the house! Not only will he know right away what to do if our future children are (gasp) not feeling well, he’ll be the one helping them with biology homework.

Hernan has a big job at Fox (the TV channel that airs The Simpsons and American Idol?), where he’s worked for 12 years. Fox owns the National Geographic Channel too in 100 or so countries around the world. We get invited to see the Lakers (that’s the basketball team here), the Super Bowl, the Emmys and lots of movies – we’ll almost always have something to do, even if most of the time we end up choosing to chill at home.

We love to travel – we’ve been to Greece, Spain, Italy, the UK, Turkey, New York, Miami, Brazil, Mexico and Argentina, but our favorite trip has been a drive up the coast of California, all the way to wine country and back. We’re going camping for a few days in California this summer as well.

We met while vacationing in Greece, and we talked about – guess what – having a family on our very first date! That was almost six years ago, we immediately started dating, seeing each other at least every other week even though we were living two thousand miles apart. Finally Travis was able to move to Los Angeles, where we got married two years ago at a beautiful ceremony at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. Our families flew in from Argentina, Georgia and Ohio, and Hernan surprised Travis by hiring the USC marching band, the Spirit of Troy!

Last year, we were blessed with the arrival of Nicholas, our first son. We will be forever grateful to his birthmother Christie (who sees lots of cute pictures of him like this one).

We have six nieces and nephews – they live in Atlanta and Argentina, and they’re 9 to 15 years old. We each have a brother and a sister, and we’re lucky to be in frequent contact with them and with our parents.

What do we want for our kids? We want them to grow up having all of the opportunities in the world to love and be loved, to learn and enjoy, to see and experience what we’ve been lucky to see. They’ll grow up bilingual, with a good education and good friends, living in a big city but with their own backyard and tree!

Sincerely,
Travis & Hernan
