We have shared six wonderful years of growth, love, and companionship. After marrying in 2022, we began our fertility journey in 2023. It has been challenging and emotionally difficult, but through this process, we’ve learned that the most important thing is to build a family filled with unwavering love. For this reason, we have embraced adoption as a beautiful option to grow our family. We wholeheartedly believe that love transcends genetics. The love we share, our commitment to one another, and the support that surrounds us are what truly define family. Our hearts are full of hope and ready to give all the love we have to offer!
We first connected the day after Thanksgiving, 2018, just four months after my dad’s passing. We believe our love was heaven-sent from him. If that wasn’t enough, six months into dating, we discovered that Vernell’s and my brother’s phone numbers differ by only one digit. Somehow, due to an airline mix- up, Vernell had been receiving my brother’s flight information for years before we even met—talk about fate! In 2020, we moved in together just as COVID intensified. A week after moving in, we found ourselves unable to leave the house. We used that time to deepen our love, build strong roots of friendship and joy, and face the challenges of a global pandemic side by side. We married on October 30, 2022.
Much of my life has been shaped by my physical stature, deep love for family, passion for caring for others, and a joy for creating fun, lasting memories. I have Meier-Gorlin Syndrome, a very rare genetic disorder characterized by primordial dwarfism: affecting only 1 to 9 people per million each year. I like to joke that I’m truly one in a million! I’m grateful for the adversity I’ve experienced, as it has helped me view life through kinder eyes and given me deep empathy for others. I am loud, proud, and—as my husband would say-unapologetically my authentic self. I’m “fun-size,” and anyone who knows me would agree! I’m a Social Worker and absolutely love my profession. I’ve been blessed with a beautiful, supportive family (including 27 first cousins!) and a strong circle of friends. My parents showed my siblings and me what unconditional love looks like, and I hope to carry that same love, stability, vulnerability, and fun into our future as parents. Some of my favorite things to do are cooking, listening to music, and spending time with loved ones. Our motto is "How Lucky Are We", the luckiest!
Lauren has the kindest heart of anyone I've ever known. She is full of light and love that turns our house into a home. She is the life of the party and wants everyone around her to be included in that party. I've seen her be a wonderful aunt to her nieces and nephews who adore her. Through her dedication as a social worker, I've seen her be a safe, nurturing, and caring adult that kids can rely on. I consider myself lucky that she is my partner in this journey of life and to parenthood.
I come from a proud Haitian household that has deeply shaped who I am today. I’m naturally more introverted, but I tend to attract extroverted energy—which is clear from the wonderful friends and family in my life, especially my amazing wife! I enjoy going to the gym several times a week and love playing pickup basketball whenever I get the chance. I’m a big Celtics fan and rarely miss a Patriots game on Sundays. I work as a mechanical engineer and am driven by a strong desire to support and care for my family. Growing up, I was fortunate to witness the kind of parent I hope to be—my parents showed me what unconditional love, care, and support look like. Even now, I make a point to visit them weekly, despite living about an hour away. Lauren and I are a beautiful balance of energies. I cherish time with my family, my lifelong friends, and the new relationships I’ve gained through Lauren. My family taught me the importance of community, and we look forward to passing those same values on to our child.
Oh gosh—I could gush about Vernell all day. As I said in our vows, he is the anchor in the storm that is me. I’m loud and full of energy; Vernell is calm, steady, and full of quiet strength. Vernell celebrates all those around him. Vernell is patient, hardworking, and deeply loving. Since becoming an uncle to my four nieces and two nephews, he’s connected with each of them—asking thoughtful questions, learning their interests, and even swimming in the cold ocean with them this summer (not easy for a Caribbean soul). Raised with unconditional love, Vernell is eager to carry on the Haitian cultures and traditions he grew up with. Experiencing his love, both toward me and those around him, I know with all my heart: any child would be lucky to have him as a Dad. Vernell will be an incredible father.
Together, we love relaxing by the pool on hot days or cuddling by the fireplace when it’s chilly. Rainy days often mean "Harry Potter" marathons, and at night, "Friends" is our go-to comfort show— though we’ve probably watched "Game of Thrones" a million times too. The movie "Friday" holds a special place in our hearts as it was part of our first date. Since buying our home, we’ve loved hosting family and friends, creating a space where everyone feels welcome, celebrated, and loved. One of our favorite traditions is closing out gatherings with an affirmation circle—sharing kind words with one another. Some guests are hesitant at first, but by the end, everyone leaves feeling uplifted. I’ve had so much fun decorating our home (I call it “funky fabulous”) and transforming it with each season and holiday. Vernell loves the gym and pickup basketball, and I love preparing a meal for his return. We’re a beautiful balance—whether out and about or simply curled up on the couch, we truly enjoy just being together.
We live in our beautiful house in Lynn, Massachusetts, and since moving here, we found so many places to love. We live near Nahant Beach and a peaceful little pond where we walk our dog, Ziggy. Our home is tucked on a quiet cul-de-sac, perfect for safe and peaceful neighborhood strolls. Some of our favorite local spots include Thairrific by the Sea, Mission on the Bay, Rossetti, Blue Ox, and Hacienda Corona. We also love being close to the charming beach towns of Swampscott and Marblehead. Each season in our new home has brought its own joy—from cozy fires in the winter to relaxing by the pool in summer. We’re excited to continue exploring all that our new city has to offer!
We bought Ziggy Whitfield during COVID in 2020. He's a 4lbs Yorkshire Terrier; a perfect blend of sassy, spirited, cuddly and super sweet little man! He has brought unlimited love into our family as well as responsibility. He has given us just a glimpse of what it looks like to prioritize something/someone above us. Our love for him shows that love transcends not just genetics but also species. He has spent a lot of time with children of all ages and is always a fan favorite. We can't wait to see him in his role as big puppy brother.
We both share very close relationships with our families. Lauren is one of three siblings, with an older sister and brother, and Vernell has one older brother. Luckily, our families live close enough that we’re able to see both sides during the holidays. Lauren’s family has rich, long- standing traditions—like the annual Christmas Cookout with her mom’s side, followed by Christmas breakfast with her dad’s side. Summers are spent at the family beach house in Maine, and winters often include ski trips to our winter cabin in New Hampshire. While Vernell’s family is smaller in size, they’ve built a strong, rooted community. When his parents immigrated to the U.S., they helped create a vibrant Haitian community with fellow immigrants. From that, Vernell has gained many “cousins” and a cherished village of lifelong friends and chosen family.
Being asked about parenting feels complex because we see it as the most important job we'll ever have. We know it will require humility, care, and a willingness to learn—knowing our child will guide us just as much as we guide them. Our goal is to create a home rooted in unwavering love, stability, vulnerability, and validation. We want to be safe adults for our children—people they can come to with any question or challenge, knowing they’ll be met without judgment and with a problem-solving spirit. Beyond showing love in our home, we want to build a community where our child feels loved, valued, and safe! We aim to nurture their strengths, normalize their challenges, and celebrate everything that makes them uniquely themselves.
