Greetings! We’re Becca & Matt from Seattle, Washington. We are really happy that you came across our profile and appreciate your interest in learning more about us. We are excited to tell you more about our interests, goals and lifestyle, and we hope to find someone with whom we can make a meaningful connection. Becca is a political science professor at the University of Washington. She is a published author and is currently finishing her second book. Matt is a manager at a non-profit that promotes art and music for youth, and he loves teaching and interacting with kids of all ages. Becca has always been career-focused, but has come to appreciate that family, friends and a work-life balance are more important than career advancement. Matt is very playful, and he loves being around kids of all ages and babysitting our niece, AnneMarie (18 months) and nephew, Wally (4 years old). Although our routines felt full with our careers, hobbies and our dog, Beasley, we decided that growing our family would add so much warmth and fulfillment to our lives. We tried to conceive, but we’ve struggled with infertility. Adoption feels like a deeply meaningful way to grow our family and share the love and support that we have to give.

We met more than 10 years ago through an online dating site. We were both recently out of relationships and neither of us was looking for a long-term partner. However, we immediately connected and knew that we had a meaningful bond. Months later Matt used his artistic talents to sew a plushy blue animated character that grants users wishes (a Meseeks from the TV show Rick and Morty) and confessed his one wish that Becca would be his girlfriend. Years later we still like to laugh together, cook delicious food (Matt cooks, Becca eats!) and spend time watching our favorite shows. We love being in the company of our friends and family, and we believe that growing our family would enrich our lives.

I am very passionate, disciplined and determined, and I channel these traits into my career and recreational pursuits. I became a political science professor because research, writing and teaching give me purpose and help me understand the way the world works. I love engaging with students, and mentorship is most rewarding part of my job. I am fortunate to have a flexible work schedule, and I spend time with friends and family as often as I can. In my spare time, I teach classes in a men’s prison and volunteer with a youth mentorship program. I enjoy physical activities like running and boxing, outdoor pursuits like hiking and camping as well as creative outlets such as reading (fiction & sci-fi), music and movies. I am excited to raise a child, experience the world through their eyes, support and encourage them to be their best self, and see what kind of person they become.

Becca is loving, loyal, passionate, and fun. She has a very dry and deadpan sense of humor that cracks me up when I finally realize that she is telling a joke! She is very intelligent, knowledgeable, and is a phenomenal teacher and would be a great asset for any child who is struggling with homework. Becca has an amazing amount of self control which I think makes her an excellent role model to help kids grow and thrive. She has a conviction that keeps her motivated and focused on continuing to read and learn and maintain a healthy and energetic lifestyle. Becca can be very affectionate, and she has a lot of love to give as we expand our family and I know she will be an amazing parent.

I have a laid back and easy going attitude. I like to have fun and find joy in the little things that life provides. I like to be creative and most of my hobbies revolve around making art and music. I’m vegan and love to spend time in the kitchen making animal free dinners and desserts. I enjoy my job working with and mentoring young people at an all ages non-profit. I have a playful attitude, am usually in a good mood, have a lot of patience, and always find time to be silly or absurd which makes it easy for me to connect with children and young adults. Children have such an open and curious perspective and I am looking forward to having a young person in our household to play games and do creative projects with.

Since we met I’ve been drawn to Matt’s gentle and even-tempered disposition. He is silly, playful, affectionate and humorous; he connects deeply with children and animals because is authentically himself around them. He shares a particularly special bond with our nephew, Wally, and he loves interacting with our friends’ kids. His greatest talent is his creativity, which he channels into DIY projects like cooking, baking, sewing, gardening, woodworking, drawing, graphic design, and writing and playing music (guitar, base, drums). He also teaches art and music at his job, where he works with kids of diverse background. While Matt is laid back and easy-going, he is also fiercely principled. I admire his unwavering generosity, loyalty, honesty and empathy, and I know that all of these features would make him a patient, loving and supporting parent.

We love living in a walkable neighborhood in Seattle, Washington with lots of parks, restaurants, a public library and music venues nearby. Becca often goes on long runs on a pedestrian path that leads to a beach, and Matt rides his bike in this area. We are surrounded by beautiful mountains, hundreds of trails, several ski resorts and rivers for swimming and floating. We’ve organized our home for work, leisure and socializing. We have an office space, a small garden, a gaming set¬up, a library, a vinyl collection, lots of musical instruments and an open kitchen that we use to cook meals together and host dinner parties. We are excited to take our child to annual outdoor music festivals that we attend with our friends and their families and on our annual traditions like apple picking, berry picking and the pumpkin patch. We love our walkable neighborhood, with its parks, cultural events, and welcoming diversity. The schools here are excellent, and our home wouldn’t be complete without our adorable dog, Beasley!

Becca’s family values spending holidays together, and we take annual vacations to places like Alaska and the Canadian Rockies. We are fortunate to live 5 minutes away from Becca’s cousin and her family, including two bi-racial kids whom we babysit for regularly. While we don’t see Matt’s family as often, we enjoy visiting his mom in Oklahoma, spending time with his baby niece (6 mo.) and camping trips with his brother. We also love to socialize with our neighbors, our friends and their families.

We are excited about the opportunity to introduce our child to all of our annual traditions, including holidays and vacations with family, summer music festivals and camping trips with our friends and their kids, berry picking, apple picking and an annual trip the pumpkin patch.

We want to give our child independence while reinforcing the importance of following through on responsibilities. We would strive to make sure that we are listening to their problems and creating a non-judgmental space for them to confide in us. We value curiosity, kindness, and respect, and we try to live those values in the way we treat each other and those around us. We believe it’s important for a child to know their story, and we would talk openly about their birth mother from an early, age-appropriate time. We also hope to have an open adoption, if you’re comfortable, and will always support whatever level of connection feels right for everyone involved.

Our jobs allow us to pursue our passion projects, while teaching and mentoring students and/or kids. Becca’s job offers a generous maternity leave policy and the ability to work from home, while Matt has flexibility to scale back his hours.
