Back in 2013, we met in the hope that we would teach each other our respective languages, but during that process, we fell in love and got married a year later. After six years in Tokyo, we moved to the United States in order to start building our family.

We wanted to start a family a couple of years after moving back to the United States. Even though we were unable to conceive a child naturally, we are excited to be able to create a family through the path of adoption. We are really excited that this path is open to us thanks to you.
We first met in November 2013 on a language exchange app. After a few classes, we started going out on dates. We got married a year later and have been together for nine years now. We have overcome many challenges, especially when we moved to the United States in 2019. Akiko even had to wait for half a year in Japan until her green card was issued. After that, we moved down to San Diego in 2022 and adopted two adorable cats along the way. Nowadays, both of us work from home. One of our favorite things to do is go around town and try out new food, restaurants, and coffeehouses.
Our core values as a family are respect for others, humbleness, education, and being open to new things and challenges. We spend our time together going out on walks on the beach and downtown, trying out new coffee shops and restaurants, and occasionally dropping in to Jiu Jitsu lessons. We also like to spend our time playing with our two cats. One of Akiko's favorite things to do is cook Japanese food, and she is looking forward to introducing a healthy diet to our future child, including things like caffeine-free tea and healthy home-cooked food. Akiko would also like to introduce our future child to a love of music by teaching them how to play the piano. On the other hand, Kevin would like to impart a passion for problem solving and a love for books and technology. Kevin is excited to bring our future child along to the local library and the bookstore for events and for borrowing and buying lots of books.
Thank you for your time to check out our profile. I am originally from Japan but now live in San Diego, California with my husband. I work from home as a Customer Experience Agent for a tech company. I enjoy learning foreign languages, and currently I speak Japanese, English, Italian, and Spanish. Corresponding with foreign pen friends from all over the world by snail mail was my biggest hobby in the 80s and 90s. I also enjoy traveling, playing the piano, working out with Kevin, cooking, and exploring new cafes and restaurants. I am a foodie. Our future child will be exposed to different cultures, respect, and learning to appreciate the small things in life.
After a couple of dates and getting to know Akiko, I knew that she is a keeper. My favorite thing about her is that she is always willing to help and has an incredible amount of empathy. I can see this when she plays with our niece and nephews in Japan. She even goes as far as to teach them English and quizzes them on it. Akiko is also personable and is always willing to find a compromise. I think one thing that will excite her about being a parent is sharing her love of many different cultures and languages. She is excited to share her love of many different cultures and languages with our future child.
I was born and raised in San Diego, California. I currently work as a software engineer for a tech company. I've been fascinated with books and technology since a young age; in fact, one of the earliest and fondest memories I have is coding on a home computer with my father when I was five years old. That's when I discovered that I loved being faced with a problem and breaking things down into simple steps in order to come up with a solution. Even though I was born with a visual impairment, I've always remained determined to learn and try new things. Another vivid memory I have is when I read the first Harry Potter book. I loved the books so much that I even got my grandmother into the series, and she turned out to be a bigger fan of it than I was. What I want to pass along as a parent is a love of learning new things, respect for others, and encouragement.
My husband is a shy person when you first meet him, but when he opens his heart, he will be a long-term friend and, in my case, a sincere husband. He is so excited to be a father and is looking forward to spending quality time together, just like his own father did with him. He loves playing with our cats and looking after them. When we visit my family in Japan, he always communicates well with our niece and nephews and enjoys the time together. Language is not an issue for them.
Currently, we live in Chula Vista, California. Our community is gated and secure, features beautiful parks and swimming pools, and is near an elementary school with a 9/10 rating. There's a lot of great amenities close by, including the famous San Diego Zoo, Balboa Park, Seaport Village, and Hillcrest. Weather is mild most of the year, so it's easy to head outside for a hike. What we're really looking forward to is taking our future child to all of the great museums in San Diego County. When it comes to what kind of museums we like to go to, we are partial to astronomy, oceanography, and geology. We have a nice backyard.
Zelda is a very shy cat at first but is loving once you get to know her. Link, on the other hand, is an incredibly social cat and loves to play. Yes, their names are from The Legend of Zelda games.
Our family lives in three different countries. On Kevin's side, he has his mother, his grandmother, and one brother and sister who live all around San Diego County. We spend most of our time with his sister, who is very relaxed and happy-go-lucky. Her name is Amanda and she currently lives in Chula Vista. She's close to us and will be around to help us out with anything. Kevin also has a very large extended family in Spain that we visit once every couple of years. When we say large, we mean over thirty family members. On Akiko's side, she has her father, one brother, and one sister in Japan. In total, our future child will have four cousins in Japan and will be able to see them on our yearly trip there. We hope to teach our future child Japanese so they can communicate and play with their cousins. Aki's grandfather was adopted, so the family is very understanding of what adoption means.
As an international couple and parents, we'd love to teach the positive aspects of American and Japanese culture to our future child. For example, we'd teach our future child the value of respecting others, especially teachers. This leads to another value we would emphasize in our home: a love for education and learning new things. Finally, we also want our future child to be adventurous and explore and try new things, learn new languages, and build things. We will do our best to impart good and wholesome values, and we promise that we will make sure our future child has an amazing life in our home.
