Choose a Family

Adrian and Josh

Thank you for choosing adoption and for taking the time to get to know us.  We are incredibly excited to become parents and hope this profile provides a glimpse into our lives as a couple and family.  If lucky enough to be chosen, we promise to provide a loving home filled with laughter and surrounded by amazing family and friends.

Adrian & Josh

We met several years ago in Atlanta while Adrian was finishing his medical training and Josh had just started his.  We quickly found medicine was not the only thing we had in common, spending the next few years experiencing the wonderful world around us through travel, local festivals, family holidays, and laughing at our goofy dogs.

In May 2015, we made it official by tying the knot on a Bahamas cruise ship.  All of our family and closest friends were present, including Adrian’s extended family from London.

Now that we’ve both reached a stable point in our careers, we are excited to start a family of our own.  Having both been raised in large extended families, we are thankful for the opportunity to provide a new generation with the experience of growing up with aunts, uncles, and plenty of cousins to play with.

Meet Adrian, By Josh

One of the first things that attracted me to Adrian was his ability to listen.  He is such a great listener and the first person I want to go to to celebrate good news or for support after a bad day.  Similarly, he is extremely thoughtful and always goes out of his way to make sure others have what they need, its what makes him the perfect host for dinner gatherings or family events.

Since getting established in our own home, Adrian has become the official family host, organizing Thanksgiving, Christmas, a July 4th barbeque, and birthdays.  With each event, he dives in considering each guest and planning an evening of delicious food and fun.  He also goes all out for Halloween, turning our front yard and porch into a spooky graveyard with a fog machine and sound effects.  Over the past few years, our house has become an essential stop for local trick-or-treaters.  I love seeing the joy Adrian takes in creating special experiences for others and can’t even imagine what he would be put together for his own child.  Its that thoughtfulness and attention to others that I know will make him a great dad.

Meet Josh, by Adrian

From the moment I met Josh I was instantly drawn in by his warm and wonderfully upbeat personality. He makes me laugh constantly and I couldn’t imagine a better partner in raising a family than him. We have built a wonderful life together in Atlanta and he makes sure every day is a new adventure no matter what we do.

His two years in Honduras serving in the Peace Corp instilled in him an enduring spark for bettering the lives of others. He is very aware of the challenges faced by underserved communities as he works as an emergency physician in the states largest public hospital. It never ceases to amaze me how he has balanced his work responsibilities with community service. He inspires me to be a better person every day and I know he will do the same for our child.

Most of our shared hobbies revolve around exploring the world around us, near and far.  On vacations, we love travelling to new places, experiencing local culture, and sometimes learning new languages.  Josh spent time in the Peace Corps in Honduras after college, so he his fluent in Spanish and loves to travel through Central and South America.  He’s a big fan Honduran coffee and still keeps in touch with the coffee farmers he worked with there.  Adrian’s favorite travel spot is South Africa, offering rich history, culture, and natural wonders.  He also picks up some Afrikaans vocabulary with each visit.

On weekends or other days off, we enjoy getting out into nature in the Southeast.  Our dogs love to go on hikes with us and will take any opportunity to jump in a creek or lake for a swim.  We also enjoy taking our kayaks out for leisurely paddles or getting down to the coast for beach days.

Back at home we enjoy pretty much any home improvement project, which becomes clear when you see our colorful decorating!  We also enjoy tinkering with our salt water aquarium where we grow coral reef and have our own little Nemo clown fish.

Both of us work as emergency physicians and love the challenge that work presents while giving us the opportunity to serve others and make a real difference in their lives.  Many assume our work is very demanding, and while it is challenging, working in the ER allows us flexible scheduling and the ability to cut back on hours as needed to meet family demands.

We’ve spent the last few years making our home an inviting and welcoming place to host family and friends.  When looking to buy, we decided on a home larger than our current needs knowing this would be a forever home where we could start our family.  We are fortunate to live in a quiet in-town neighborhood just one block from the local park and playground.  Lots of young families with neighbors who are very active in our local schools has created a strong community that is sure to be nurturing and full of opportunities.

Family is very important to both of us and we are lucky to have most of our extended family within a 1-hour drive of where we live.  Adrian’s parents, older brother and wife, and 1-month old nephew all live in Atlanta and visit us frequently.  Josh’s mom lives just a few miles from us and he also has 2 brothers, a sister, 5-year-old niece, and 1-year-old nephew who all live in Atlanta.  Josh has one more brother and a 3-month old nephew that live in Portland, Oregon and they fly to Atlanta every Christmas for the whole family to be together for the holiday.  Josh also has aunts, uncles and seemingly endless numbers of cousins in Atlanta and the southeast in general.  Family traditions are important for both of our families and we tend to play the roles of family organizers, often hosting our large Thanksgiving dinners, Christmas morning gift exchange, and summer barbeques.

Maebe and Tobey have been our loyal friends for the past three years.  Maebe is the quiet, relaxed one, while Tobey is always up for playtime and loves to cuddle.  They both love meeting new people and are always excited to give kisses to any new friends.  They’ve been great with our friends’ children and will definitely enjoy having a kid around.

We promise…

  • to raise our child in a home full of laughter and love
  • to instill values of kindness, respect, understanding, and service
  • to support our child in achieving their dreams and realizing their full potential
  • to surround our child with supportive family and pass along the traditions that have been so important in our own upbringing

Thank you again for choosing adoption and for taking the time to get to know us.  We hope you’ve gotten a glimpse of who we are and the loving parents we would be.  We can’t wait to hear from you!

With our warmest regards,

Adrian and Josh
