Hello! We are Amanda and Leah.

Dear Birth Mother: Thank you for considering us as parents for your child. We are incredibly honored that you have chosen to learn more about us as potential adoptive parents for your child. We sincerely hope that you will allow us to go on this journey with you. We have such great respect and admiration for your selfless decision; it is truly an act of love and courage. We are so excited to show you what loving, supportive parents we can be to your child. For many years, it has been our dream as a couple to provide a nurturing and loving home to a child through adoption.

Our Story (it all began in Dallas, Texas)

We first met through a mutual friend in Dallas, TX in late 2006. It may not have been love at first sight, but as soon as Amanda asked Leah out on a date, it was definitely love in two weeks! By 2008, we were living happily together in Austin, TX, a city we both adored for its outdoor activities, culture and sense of community.  Amanda proposed to Leah on our anniversary date in 2009, and we had our commitment ceremony exactly a year later at the Dallas World Aquarium. People are still talking about what a fun celebration that was for everyone! We were blessed to be legally married in July of 2015, right here in Austin.

Who We Are

When we were just dating, we discovered we had so many interests and values in common. We found we both cherished our childhoods and our families were very important to us. We shared a love for traveling and exploring, as well as a great affection for animals of all kinds. After over 11 years together, we still enjoy every moment we spend together.Hi there! I’m Leah.

Here’s a little about myself: I am a social worker and supervisor in Austin, TX, and I have been at the same job for over 7 years working with adults with mental illness. I am lucky to be able to work from home several days a week, when I am not out visiting people in the community. I am very passionate about helping others, both at work and in my personal life. I believe in second chances, and that people need love, support and true human connections to live their dreams. When I am not working… I love reading, cooking, gardening and traveling as much as possible. I also love music of all kinds, art and art history, playing games with family or friends, watching scary movies, and eating ice cream! I am so excited to become a mother and experience that adventure with Amanda.

About Leah, by Amanda: Leah will tell you she’s an introvert, but the moment she walks into a room people want to talk to her, probably because she’s easy to get to know. People trust her, and often come to her for advice and guidance. She has earned the nickname “Mama Leah” because of the way she nurtures and cares for people. She’s a social worker and empowers those less fortunate than most to be their best selves. She is completely selfless and giving, and I so admire the way she thinks of others before herself. She loves making things beautiful in our home, and she’s an amazing cook! Whether it’s her famous spaghetti and meatballs or fruit cobblers, she loves being in the kitchen and creating new dishes. Leah will make a wonderful mother because she is a natural caregiver and has such a kind and loving heart.Hello! I’m Amanda.

I’m excited to share a few things with you! I work as a teacher and theater instructor at a private Montessori-based elementary school. My job allows me to spend my weekdays teaching students to become peacemakers, advocates, creators and thinkers. I truly believe that the children of today will create a better, more peaceful tomorrow, and I am so lucky to be a part of that! I have summers off, and I have been hosting a week-long theater summer camp for the past five years. I enjoy playing guitar and writing music, photography, reading, playing with our pets, and doing active, creative projects. My favorite foods are seafood, sushi, and gummies! The only thing that’s missing from my life is the chance to be a mother, and I’m so ready to experience that joy with Leah.

About Amanda, by Leah: Amanda is one of the most caring, gentle, giving and creative people I have ever met.  As a teacher of elementary-aged children, she has awesome patience and strives to encourage kids to celebrate their diversity and creativity.  Amanda studied theater in college and her passion for sharing that part of herself with kids is inspiring. Children are always drawn to her easy, playful nature and positive energy. Amanda has many talents, whether it be fixing things around the house, building set pieces for school plays, caring for animals, or creating music. I am constantly in awe of her positivity and creativity, and I strive to be more like her every day. I know deep in my heart that she will make an excellent mother. Our World, Meet the People We Love

Leah’s Family (By Leah): I grew up in Arlington, TX with a big family that offered endless love and support throughout my childhood. I feel extremely blessed to have four awesome parents, as my parents were divorced when I was 6 (although both remarried when I was about 10). My entire family welcomed Amanda into their lives with open arms and have supported our love for each other from the start. We often go on vacations with my family to Colorado, North Carolina or Cape Cod. I am very close with my brother, Carter, who has a beautiful family of his own- Amanda and I enjoy spending time with his two boys and frequently go on fun-filled vacations with them in the summer. Both Amanda and I have a special bond with my youngest brother, John, and love going snow skiing with him in Colorado. My family often likes to have big gatherings, where we eat delicious meals and play card and domino games together. All four of my parents, my brothers, and our big extended family are overjoyed that we have chosen to adopt as a way to start our own family.

Amanda’s Family (By Amanda): I come from a close-knit, loving family of 4. I grew up in Garland, TX with plenty of opportunities for creative expression and play. While growing up, I was fortunate to be able to see my aunt and my cousin, from New York, on a yearly basis. I loved playing with and reading to my cousin, and my aunt told me he would cry every time we went back home! I simply adore my younger brother Craig; he and his family come visit us in Austin a few times a year. Leah and I both love playing with their 3-year-old son, Dimitri. I take every opportunity to teach him new things, like playing music. My parents, Mary and LJ, travel around the country in their RV, but always stop in Austin for several months at a time each year. I rarely go without calling them once a week to catch up on our lives when they are not in town. They have always supported us completely and have been telling us for a couple of years that they can’t wait for more grandchildren!

Our Friends: We have several friends who we consider part of our family. Most of our closest friends we have known for 10-20+ years. Our friends are the most supportive, accepting and funny people you could ever meet. For about 10 years, we proudly worked alongside our best friends in our own little theater troupe, The Dramazons. We performed original comedy-based plays and sketch shows in Austin and gave any money we made back to our community and local charities. We often travel with our best friends, as well as gather for backyard cookouts and game nights. Our friends can’t wait to be fun and loving “aunts and uncles” to our future child. Our Home and Closing Thoughts

Welcome to our home and community: While we both feel incredibly lucky to have found jobs we love and feel passionate about, we also value our home and personal life over our work life any day. We live in a modest two-story home in a very safe, cozy neighborhood in south Austin. We have a huge backyard with lots of trees and open spaces, as well as a little garden. Our neighborhood has its own little park with a playground and walking trails. When we are at home, we love to cook dinner together and watch TV, surrounded by our many pets. No matter what we are doing, as long as we are together, we are happy and content!

Meet Our Furry Friends: From day one, we have shared a genuine love of animals. Together, we have rescued many cats and one awesome, fun and smart dog named Tazzy. Many people (including our vet) have commented that we take better care of our pets than anyone they’ve ever met! Our cats love cuddling with us on the couch while we watch tv or playing on the many play structures Amanda has built for them over the years. Our dog, Tazzy, enjoys learning new tricks (as long as she gets treats for it!) and gets along great with the kitties. Tazzy is a really sweet doggy when she’s around kids, and often cuddles and plays “chase” with our little nephew.

Thank You

Thank you again for taking the time to let us share our story and give you a glimpse of our life, and for considering us as adoptive parents for your child. When you are ready, we would love to hear more about you and your story. No matter what your decision may be, we wish you all the peace and happiness this world has to offer.

In Return, We Make These Promises To You:

  • We will love your child unconditionally.
  • We will empower your child to be proud of who they are and become who they want to be.

  • We will provide your child with constant opportunities for learning, adventure, creativity, and imagination. We will hug, kiss, laugh and play all the time!
  • We will make sure your child knows where they came from, who you are and the courage and love it took for you to make this decision.
