Choose a Family

Andrea and Antwon

Hello and thank you. We are Andrea & Antwon from Long Beach, CA!

Your courage to make this selfless decision reminds us of the quote from Maya Angelou, “Courage is the most important of all the virtues, because without courage you can’t practice any other virtue consistently.”  We feel blessed to have this opportunity to share our unconditional love, commitment and compassion with you and your child and are excited to embark on this next chapter with you on our journey together.  We tried for many years to start a family and we believe destiny led us to you and your child.  We can’t wait for our family to grow through adoption.

Our Story

Our love story began over 12 years ago at a sushi restaurant in downtown Long Beach while we were both out with friends.  Our chemistry was undeniable, and sparks flew once we met.  We were both attracted to each other’s differences and surprising similarities.  Our chemistry was undeniable.  We come from very different cultures and backgrounds, but our foundation of core values are the same—Integrity, compassion, loyalty, honesty, respect and humor are most important to us.  We truly enjoy each other’s company and are best friends.  Our differences complement each other and help us both grow in ways we did not know was possible.  It did not take us long to fall in love.  We took time to get to know each other before Antwon proposed in front of our family in Big Bear on Valentine’s Day.  We were married on a yacht in Newport Beach with our closest family and friends.  We were both crying during our vows and we were so in awe of each other that we forgot which finger to put the wedding rings on!  Our family and friends still talk about our wedding being so full of love and joy that they did not want it to end.  Andrea’s dad gave a toast about the importance of family and how he was so excited for our families to blend.  Our challenging journey to become parents has made us even more resilient and faith-filled as a couple.  It has always been our dream to be parents and we are hopeful that you will see our sincerity and spirit in line with your dreams for your child.A Little About Antwon

I was born and raised in rural Virginia with my family who all helped raise me.  It takes a village. I am very close with my two younger sisters who now live in Georgia.  I am a real country boy, with lots of energy.  My nickname with my family is still Macgyver because there is nothing I cannot fix if I put my mind to it.  I inherited my family’s cooking talent and enjoy cooking new creations.  I love everything about cars and working with my hands. I currently work close to home with flexible hours at a specialty car parts company.   I love the saying that you never have to work a day in your life if you love what you do because that is exactly how I feel.

Andrea Talks About Antwon

When I think of Antwon and our partnership, I think of the trust we have, the warmth we feel and the true joy we have experiencing everyday with each other.  I love his spirit for life, his confidence and strong work-ethic.  He has passion for everything he does and completes every project or task with enthusiasm.  He is incredibly kind, giving to others and always lends a helping hand to our neighbors, family and friends.  We have spent a lot of time babysitting our nieces, nephews, cousins and friends’ children and he always spends the time and attention to show his care and love while teaching and having fun with them.A Little About Andrea

I grew up in Orange County, California with my older brother and parents.  My parents have now been married 54 years.  My parents kept me busy always participating in many extra-curricular activities as a child. I have my Master’s in Social Work and worked in the community many years.  I am currently a professor at Cal State Long Beach in the Sociology department teaching Child Abuse Prevention.

Antwon Talks About Andrea

It is not an exaggeration when I say that the best day of my life was when I met my “Babylove.”  Our souls connected, and she really does complete me as a person.  Andrea is always thinking of others and her empathy and compassion toward all people of the world is inspirational.  There were so many different directions I could have chosen, but none of them would have been more fulfilling than sharing my life with someone who is not just my wonderful wife, but also the greatest friend a person could have.  She has an unsinkable positive outlook on life and she always comes from a place of true integrity.  She is extremely kind-hearted and patient always building on a child’s strengths versus challenges.  She is very knowledgeable of the creative techniques needed to help a child grow to their full potential.Just For Fun

Our free time is spent taking bike rides, hiking, going to the beach, frequenting festivals and going to the park with our dogs.  We love playing beach volleyball in the summer and snow skiing in the winter.

Home Sweet Home

We live in Long Beach, California. We have a large backyard where we spend a lot of time BBQing, hosting our friends and family and playing with our two little dogs.  We love doing our yardwork and gardening.  We absolutely love Long Beach’s diversity and being close to the beach, the city, and the mountains.  We live by Queen Mary, Long Beach’s Shoreline, and the LA riverbed.

Our Village

Andrea’s family lives close-by and we see them very often.  We are close to our two nephews and have enjoyed going to all their baseball games and activities through the years.  Andrea’s brother’s family live in the childhood home they grew up in.  Together we helped throw a 50th wedding anniversary party to Andrea’s parents 3 years ago.  Grandma and Grandpa are overjoyed and are so excited for us to adopt!  Antwon’s family resides in Virginia, Florida and Georgia and we attend the family reunion or Thanksgiving as often as possible.  Antwon’s mom or others visit us at least once a year.  Antwon’s sisters’ work in the military and education and are dedicated mothers to their children who we love dearly.  All of our family are overjoyed for a new addition to our family.  Grandma and Grandpa are especially excited to shower their grandchild with love. We always spend holidays and special occasions with our family.   We host Easter at our house with family and friends each year which includes our famous Easter egg hunt.  We both have our best friends since childhood and love spending fun time with their kids. We are close to our neighbors and have such a wonderful group of friends.

Puppy Love

We have two little Chihuahua mixed dogs, Pepe and Casey.  Casey is the smartest and sweetest dog anyone can ever meet.  Casey is also fast and made it to the finals in our local Chihuahua races!  Pepe follows Casey’s lead and loves to play fetch and taking walks.  He is full of energy and spirit just like his papa.  They absolutely love children and giving lots of kisses.  We joke that their only vice is that they can’t hold their licker! Our Promise To You

We always knew that we would be wonderful parents because of our love for each other and our commitment to our solid values that we would love to share with a child.  We now know that everything that we experienced before this has led us to this moment to adopt. Andrea and Antwon
